Despite being engaged in a race against time and bankruptcy, this ever more irrelevant publication has decided that it is entitled to dictate to the One Holy Catholic Apostolic Church whom She should ordain as priests, the will of God notwithstanding.

To that end, within the space of a week Time magazine has put out two different articles extolling “womenpriests”. Here is the first one:

The Push to Ordain Female Priests Gains Ground

By the way, no, it doesn’t. A handful of hysterical feminists excommunicating themselves through
mock ordinations means absolutely nothing. Such acts will never compel the Successor of Peter to introduce into the Church something that goes against the will of God.

And here is the equally pointless and non-newsworthy second screed:

Defying the Vatican, Catholic Women Claim Priesthood

I find it amusing that TIME and other groups think that the Church can be changed by fads and movements the way everything else does. I guess they don’t realize that when these women do such things, they are automatically excommunicated and thus are no longer truly Catholic.

An ex communicant is still considered to be a Catholic. The Church does not have the power to remove that status from anyone.

:rolleyes::rolleyes: Well, if Time Magazine dictates it, we must obey…/sarcasm.

I stand with the Holy Father and with the Church. Salvation does not come through Time Magazine. 😃

Besides, it always makes my skin crawl when people start altering Holy Scripture to talk about “God our Father and Mother.”

Even Time magazine does not have the ability or authority to “impose” priestesses on the Church.

A relative of mine somehow gets time magazine for free (I think it’s school related). She gives them to me rather than throw them in the garbage where they belong. Having read most of the magazines for the last several years, it’s pretty obvious that TIME is another progressive propaganda outfit. For every objective or conservative article, there are a dozen or so pushing a more modernist or progressive view. Even the story selection reflects this reality.

Even Time magazine does not have the ability or authority to “impose” priestesses on the Church.
So I’m to understand that we aren’t taking them on as a 4th souce of authority in the Church then? I was almost certain the Bishops would agree to allow Time to sit along side scripture, tradition and the magisterium.

Oh, and as for Time’s speculation that these women would have “apostolic succession” if a bishop did, in fact, ordain them…Good try, Time, but my understanding is that apostolic succession is contingent on being a validly ordained priest, which these women are not.

Consider this quote from St. Cyprian of Carthage:
“[T]he Church is one, and as she is one, cannot be both within and without. For if she is with [the heretic] Novatian, she was not with [Pope] Cornelius. But if she was with Cornelius, who succeeded the bishop [of Rome], Fabian, by lawful ordination, and whom, beside the honor of the priesthood the Lord glorified also with martyrdom, Novatian is not in the Church; nor can he be reckoned as a bishop, who, succeeding to no one, and despising the evangelical and apostolic tradition, sprang from himself. **For he who has not been ordained in the Church can neither have nor hold to the Church in any way” **(Letters 69[75]:3 [A.D. 253]).[My emphasis added]
They are no more priests than if I decided to put on wings and declare myself a parakeet. I - and they - can call myself whatever I want, but it doesn’t make it so. Just as I still cannot fly, they cannot consecrate the host to truly become the Eucharist, they cannot give absolution, they cannot act in persona Christi. So, while they may be nice people or whatever, they are not Roman Catholic priests any more than I am a bird.

Campaign? Trying to impose. Get a grip. News, as defined in most journalism classes is a change or attempted change in the status quo. So yes, this would be news for a religion section of a magazine. I see an article that tells about an interesting occurrence. Whether I agree with it is another matter. Do you think the media exist to only report news you like in the way you want to receive it? I certainly hope it never comes to that.

The problem here, and you don’t see it because you’re not an expert in Catholic theology,
is that the headline is not objective but tries to advocate one particular point of view which will never yield an outcome. “The Push to Ordain Female Priests Gains Ground” suggests that this is a credible effort or that these efforts have a chance of success or are succeeding . As is, the Church can never ordain female priests because the Catholic Church does not make up stuff - the Catholic faith is not a set of myths that can be added to or removed - they are facts as given from Christ and as taught by His Church. People who are not Catholic (and many Catholics) don’t realise this fact. The Church cannot do this, they have no authority to make such changes and they take their teaching seriously. It is from God after all.

I’ll give you some analogies.

Flat Earth Society’s Push to declare the Earth flat in science courses in schools and universities gains ground.
Pedophile advocacy group’s push to legalise adult-child sex gains ground.
Advocacy group moves to declare water not wet by the world gain ground.

These are all falsehoods. Despite some groups advocating certain things, these things are not ‘gaining ground’ because they are not rooted in objective credibility. The Catholic Church which is the only body which can in theory authorise Catholic priests is not considering ordaining female priests. This cannot happen. There are people who advocate sex with children and there are groups which state that the earth is flat, as there are some people who think that Catholic priests can be female and advocate for change to make women priests in the Catholic Church a possibility. None of these are credible and Time here seems to be pushing the pro-female priest ordination agenda and not being objective. Their headline should be worded as: “More female priest advocates reiterate call for female priesthood.”

Secondly, I could also declare myself a Catholic Priest too, you know, and wear a cool collar. Would that make me a priest? Next I’ll declare myself a general or a Buddhist abbot.
Do you think the media exist to only report news you like in the way you want to receive it?
I believe, as many people here and elsewhere do, that the media must not create news but report it objectively. I’m sure now that you understand you will agree with me.

I know that as a Protestant, you believe the deepest theological questions can be decided by a holding a vote. The Catholic Church, however, is not a democracy, but a theocracy, just as God intended. The Pope has the charism of infallibility in matters of faith and morals. This must be so, given the extraordinary authority conferred on the Head of the Church by Jesus Christ himself:

[BIBLEDRB]Matthew 16:18-19[/BIBLEDRB]

So, you see, the Pope, as the Successor of Saint Peter, decides whom the Church can admit to the priesthood. And, through the guidance of the Holy Spirit, based on Scripture, history and tradition, John Paul II came to the conclusion that the Church simply does not have the authority to ordain women, regardless of how many rogue anonymous European bishops claim otherwise.

Besides, it would be one thing to report that there are women who wish to become Catholic priests, and that some of these women in fact already consider themselves as such. That, however, is not what Time did. They start out the first article in this fashion:
Alta Jacko is the mother of eight children. She is also an ordained priest in the Roman Catholic Church. (emphasis mine)
Just because they like the idea priestesses, they have taken upon themselves to strip the Church of the essential authority to govern herself. They present the preposterous claim made by these women as fact, while lightly dismissing Canon law. As others have pointed out, they have no more right to do that than I do to appoint myself chief editor of Time magazine.

These two articles, published in such rapid sequence, are not impartial reporting but advocacy for the cause of priestesses, with the ultimate aim of delegitimizing altogether the authority of the Catholic Church.

Not quite true. The Catholic Church believes in Scripture, Tradition, and the Magisterium; the Episcopalian/Anglican Church relies on Scripture, Tradition, and Reason. So a blanket statement such as yours is not correct. BTW, when the Doctrine of the Immaculate Conception was proclaimed, it had been VOTED upon by the members of the Magisterium.

That said, the situation may well be different in other Protestant denominations, but not necessarily true of those denominations that are not protestant, such as Evangelicals, Church of Christ, and Nazarenes, to name a few.

they sure are not pleasing to the CC, therefore they will try to please those who come against the Church. whoever reads this magazine must stop now.

Wow. Can you point to any journalism classes that teach that? News is presenting facts in an unbiased manner. Propaganda is promoting some idea as news by giving it an impramatur of legitimacy by virtue of the fact that it appeared in an “important” magazine like TIME.

Magazines are in the business of selling ink on paper. When it becomes obvious that any news magazine like Time is being used as a pulpit from which to preach then that’s a problem. A big problem. Unbiased news is the best news. It presents the reader with facts. Sure, an Editorial, properly identified as such, can offer an opinion and take a side.

Why is anyone still reading garbage like Time?
I wonder that too, I stopped paying any serious attention to Time away back in…wow, is it that long ago?..1968! at the publication of the famous or infamous maybe we should say:“Is God Dead?” issue.
