I want to elaborate on a point that came up in another thread today. I have some questions.
The Quran does not vary a little from the Bible in it’s account of Old Testament events. In fact, it varies a great deal and not regarding a few minor details either. In the Quran, you find stories about Moses that you will find nowhere else in recorded in the Bible or in biblical history. Stories about Moses in the Bible bear some resemblance to the Moses of the Christian Bible, but they are twisted, different, unfamiliar. Characters, times and events are transposed, presented out of sequence and then interwoven. Are we to understand that the Bible is incorrect in all of it’s accounts of Moses and every other Old Testament figure? Has the Bible been altered? By whom? Are we to believe that the Bible is wrong in all of it’s dozens, hundreds and subsequent thousands of copies in existance and wrong in all of the thousands of places it’s quoted by other writers in other works published during the 700 year after Christ and for more than 1000 years preceeding the birth and death of Jesus Christ? And we are to believe that the Quran has everything correct simply because Muslims say so? Muslims say that the Bible has been altered, even claiming that dozens of versions exist. Where and when did this happen? How could this have happened? Where is one pre-existing text that indicates that the Old or New Testament in any way resembles events as depicted in the Quran? Where is one pre-exsting text that would suggest that the Bible has been altered? If the Bible had been altered, than alternate versions would and must exist! Where are they? Are we to believe that Jesus said in some alternate Bible that he was in fact not the Son of God? That he did not die on the Cross with John the beloved disciple present and his own mother? How are we to believe that Christ did not rise from the dead? What of the testimony of Paul, chosen by Christ? What of the thousands who died for their witness that Christ rose from the dead? What of the Catholic Church which has ever asserted that Christ is the Son of God? Peter’s witness? How can Islam make such an accusation when evidence does not exist? If Islam and Christianity are to dialogue, find any common ground, how can the two pretend that the massive divide between the historical scriptural accuracy of the respective sacred texts of the two faiths does not exist?
