“Basic theology” from who???

Your snippet from St John does NOTHING to support your first paragraph (if that was your intention on putting it there), as to ‘gentiles,’ it is a word that generally means ‘nations’ or ‘other tribes’ or ‘other people.’ In a word, non-Jews.

Your ‘basic theology’ is woefully off base, friend.

Maybe a little explanation on your stated ‘religion’ would clarify some of these conclusions you assert.

Thanks

Robert
Abraham was a Gentile, and he was ministered by Melchizedek.

Hebrews 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

This is one reason why the priesthood shifted back from Aaron to Melchizedek, to allow for ministering of Gentiles under the New Covenant, as well as Jews. Jews come through under Isaac, Gentiles come through under Ishmael, both come through under Abraham to receive it from Jesus as Melchizedek.

Galatians 4 also does a good job of explaining how Jews who reject Jesus and the New Covenant are like Ishmael son of the bondwoman, and how those who accept Jesus are like Isaac son of the freewoman and receivers of the promise. So Jews and Gentiles typified by Isaac and Ishmael who accept Jesus are set free, all those who don’t remain in bondage and death.

FoA,

All this is well and good, but WHAT does it have to do with your prior posting???

You are avoiding direct questions. Slow down and take a deep breath. What ‘basic theology?’ Who or what is your source for these assertions???

Robert

It’s just basic theology. Jews receive the covenant of Abraham through Isaac. Gentiles receive it through Ishmael when he is reconciled with Isaac and grafted back into the family under Abraham who receives the New Covenant from Jesus as the Priest-King Melchizedek.
John 8:56-58 Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it, and was glad. Then said the Jews unto him, Thou art not yet fifty years old, and hast thou seen Abraham? Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
This is the posting that is confusing and mixed up.

What is the source for your claimed ‘basic theology?’

Where in the Bible is the support for your first paragraph???

Robert

The Bible, that’s what I’ve been posting from. What exactly is it that doesn’t make sense, if you tell me that will do best to clarify. Your comments are too vague to know what you really object too.

Ok. Abraham had two sons called Isaac and Ishmael.
Isaac was free, Ishmael was slave.
Isaac is Jew, Ishmael is Gentile.
Isaac got the promise, Ishmael did not.

With Jesus according to Paul, all this according to the flesh is changed. Now Jews and Gentiles, the spiritual Isaacs and Ishmaels, receive Abraham’s promise according to the spirit, not the flesh.

Romans 4:16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all,

In this New Covenant, Abraham is the Church of Jews/Isaac and Gentiles/Ishmael, Jesus is as Melchizedek head of the church.

Here it is: third time’s a charm.

TRINITY

i was asking about what the Quran corrects about the Trinity, and the arguments presented in Quran to refute it.
I know it says Jesus is not divine, but am interested in the refutation of the Trinity doctrine: Father, Word, Spirit. After all, doctrine was established before Muhammad, and if he wanted to refute it, as he loved refutations, and since he already presented the argument as “do not say 3 for God is One”, then where are the theological arguments presented in Quran that deny that God, His Word, His Spirit are One God? remember, we are talking about the nature of oness. Does the Quran refute that the Father, His Word His Spirit are One God?
Kindly present the arguments from Quran about the rejection of Triunine nature of God regardless of whether the author believes Jesus is the incarnate Word or not.
SON OF GOD
If one considers that his Roman crucifixion was intended to be an execution, if Jesus did not die by effects of nailing to the cross why did He die according to you? if from being beaten, then He could have recovered if He were not put on the cross. What is your point?

then he would not have been crucified, though he may certainly have been nailed to it. you mean He did not die *from *crucifixion, even though He was crucified? what did He die from? and how do you reconcile the Quran saying He was neither killed, nor crucified and that it appeared as such? what “appeared”?
This means that God took the life of Jesus from the cross, rather than allowing it to kill him through crucifixion.
how if He died on the cross? God could have made this before the cross, so what are you basing your theory on?
And it further reinforces the idea of Isaiah 42:4 that Jesus was not stopped nor discouraged by men, being killed by Jews or Romans, but rather he willingly returned to God in an act of obedience.
and he willingly died as an act of obediance. The NT clearly says He accepts His cross and death. Jesus said He will be handed, humiliated, beaten, put to death and resurrect. He did not say He will overcome the cross but He will overcome death.
The crucifixion started to take place but Jesus died before it could kill him,
based on speculation or scripture?
SACRIFICE FOR SIN
even though Muslims love to discredit the “sacrifice” of Jesus, but sacrifice is found in Islam so its not something i’d argue about.
So again, understandings are wrong, but the Quran and Bible are correct.
while dealing with Islamic understanding, we refer to the companions of Muhammad who understood and heard things from Muhammad. What you are presenting here are things unknown to the companions of Muhammad…this is why i may agree with you regarding certain things, but this will not negate the fact that Islamically, they are incorrect, since they do not reflect the understanding of either Muhammad’s companions, nor the traditions, nor the interpretations of the earliest scholars. To say the Quran is correct, means Muhammad is correct, yet his very companions and later followers quoted in tradition got things wrong, which is not very logical. By this token, if an x author wrote a book, yet his or his secretary’s interpretation is wrong, then i can make it look as if it were correct, by rejecting the interpretation of those who heard the interpretation of the author…

so what am asking for are answers from Quran, not imagination or personal interpretation, as to what arguments the Quran presents, and what arguments the Quran presents to refute them. Hence, i’d appreciate it if you quote the Quranic arguments and how they were interpreted historically. With all due respect, you cannot know more that all of the Islamic scholars, among whom were companions of Muhammad. Not to be disrespectful, but teachings must be understood through the lenses of those who uttered them.
SACRIFICE OF ISAAC
agree.

Just on these, 72 virgins are a metaphor for blessings, not women.

They will recline (with ease) upon couches arranged in ranks; and we shall wed them to maiden, with beautiful big and lustrous eyes. And those who believe and whose seeds follow them in Faith,- to them shall We join their families

And with fruits, any that they may select: And the flesh of fowls, any that they may desire. And (there will be) Companions with beautiful, big, and lustrous eyes,- Like unto Pearls well-guarded.

We have created them of special creation. And made them virgin - pure (and undefiled), - Full of love (for their mates), equal in age,- For the Companions of the Right Hand. A (goodly) number from those of old, And a (goodly) number from those of later times.

seems to me anything but a metaphore…blessing is neither created, nor has eyes, nor age, nor can be given as sexual thing, nor is it made pure…these are physical descriptions, the furthest it can be from metaphore.

Melchizedek offered bread and wine and not a burnt offering to God. To be a “Preist in the order of Melchizedek” is to offer bread and wine, not an animal. It has nothing to do with family heritage or birthright

Dear FoA,

Can you please clarify your latest 2 postings? I have a problem recognizing who said what between you and InJesus.

InJesus is italicized, in the one about Trinity. Not sure which other one you mean.

I didn’t mention burnt offerings. The symbolism is this:

Jesus (Melchizedek) = Priest-King
– Abraham = God’s Kingdom
— Isaac = Jews = Torah Laws
— Ishmael = Gentiles = Noahide Laws

This is too deep for me. :hmmm:

How do you come to these conclusions?

This is too deep for me. :hmmm:

How do you come to these conclusions?
Abraham’s priest was Melchizedek king of Jerusalem.

Hebrews 7:1-2 For this Melchisedec, king of Salem, priest of the most high God, who met Abraham returning from the slaughter of the kings, and blessed him; To whom also Abraham gave a tenth part of all; first being by interpretation King of righteousness, and after that also King of Salem, which is, King of peace;

The Levite priesthood under Aaron is just to make atonement for Jews only, but in order for Gentiles to be grafted into the New Covenant with a high priest who also makes atonement for their sins, a new priesthood is needed so it jumps back to Melchizedek with Jesus assuming the role.

Hebrews 6:20 Whither the forerunner is for us entered, even Jesus, made an high priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.

So now you have Jesus ministering to the Church, which is a type of Abraham:

Romans 4:13 For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith.

And in Abraham’s spiritual seed, you have Jews as a type of Isaac, and Gentiles as a type of Ishmael.

Galations 3:29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.

And in Abraham’s spiritual seed, you have Jews as a type of Isaac, and Gentiles as a type of Ishmael.

Galations 3:29 And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.
Just what are you getting at? Can you say it in plain language and to the point so that I can address what you’re trying to say?
Like, a lot of Muslims think Jesus was on the cross too, but God put the spirit of Judas in the body of Jesus and he suffered most of the agony. So there are different variations and beliefs of that idea too.
Utter nonsense. Non-Biblical and without basis.

Does the Quran refute that the Father, His Word His Spirit are One God?
just that God is 3 persons, and that as one of them Jesus is a deity who existed eternally with God as God, and that he should be worshiped as God.
God is 3 “persons” refers to Father, Word, Spirit. If the Quran is not refuting it, it means it is not refuting the doctrine that the Father, His Word, His Spirit = One God, hence the Triunity is not refuted by Quran, but rather refuting the use of the word person.

Now with all due respect, don’t you think that the doctrine itself is much more important than the words invented by humans to explain it? if Allah understood the reason for choosing “person” which is in Arabic “uqnum”, used in order to teach that the Word and Spirit of the Father are not “impersonal” powers but are rather the essence of God by whom everything is created, do you think he will refute that Father, Word, Spirit is One God?
Your voice and your words are not separate persons, they are aspects of you. So God’s Spirit and God’s Word are not separate persons, they are aspects of one God.
indeed, the Trinity teaches that the Word and Spirit are not seperate but distinct.

An all-knowing deity cannot make mistakes.
Well I’m saying that’s one of the problems of Trinity, it implies God put His sperm in Mary somehow and created Jesus as His Son a demigod, which is a pagan idea.
if this is what the Quran means, then again the author had absolutly no understanding of neither the title, nor the incarnation. The Trinity has nothing to do with *how *Jesus was born, the title Son of God has nothing to do with sperm or Mary, and Christianity never ever taught what you wrote. The title is by no means physical .

Again, an all-knowing deity does not base his arguments on misrepretations but adresses the correct teaching/understanding.

Again, can you quote the correct understanding **of the Quran **regarding the title, and whether it accepts it spiritually only?
you know the Quran rejects Jesus as Son of God if that title is based on the idea that it also makes Jesus God, it’s a given.
no, am looking for specific **Quranic passages **that give the correct understanding of the title (1), and correct arguments against it (2).
how if He died on the cross? God could have made this before the cross, so what are you basing your theory on?
God simply took his spirit and his body died, that’s what it means. His spirit didn’t depart because his body died from the cross.
the spirit departs regardless of death. So why did God allow Him to be put on the cross in the first place, giving the impression to all people that He died on the cross, in order to say 600 years laters that He died not out of crucifixion? what are the theological reasons behind this “unseen, unverifiable” claim when already Jesus died on the cross in front of many?am asking your opinion, i know nothing of this is in Islam.
Scripture.
Isaiah 53:4 Surely he hath borne our griefs, and carried our sorrows: yet we did esteem him stricken, smitten of God, and afflicted.
Quran 4:158 But Allah took him up unto Himself. Allah was ever Mighty, Wise.
these scriptures do not say He overcame the cross.
the Quran is the standard and the general rule is if Hadith don’t make sense or contradict Quran you can throw it out.
so you believe that isnad, that muslims brag about, can be wrong?

and do you think that anybody can interpret the Quran on his own and get the same understanding as others?
I’ve supported what I’ve said from the Quran.
am afraid not. I reasked you again in specific places.

thx for sharing.

I reject the Judas thing too.

Prophetically, Melchizedek was a type for Jesus, Abraham was a type for the Church, his sons Isaac was a type for Jews in the Church, Ishmael a type for Gentiles in the Church.

That’s probably as clear as I can get, they are all just things from the Bible.

Prophetically, Melchizedek was a type for Jesus, Abraham was a type for the Church, his sons Isaac was a type for Jews in the Church, Ishmael a type for Gentiles in the Church.
At best this is your personal interpretation but it’s still vague. I’m undecided on the Melchizedek - Jesus correlation, but I certainly disagree on the rest.

The Church is a body of Christ, pure and simple.

What do you mean by Jews in the Church? A complete Jews are ones that accept Christ; the others are one who don’t and still waiting for the Messiah. Jesus blood line comes from Abraham but that because of the promise of God.

There is nothing specific about Ishmael except for traditional belief that his descendants are the present day Arabs and those people residing in the Arabian peninsula.

I don’t know what to say but your idea is very unconventional. Are you Christian, Unitarian or Muslim? I mean, it would be easier for us to carry on the discussion if we understand your position better.

God bless.
