Can anyone explain this to me?

I’ve just heard that columnist Maurine Dowd believes that Democrats will be caught up in the Rapture, but Republicans will be left behind.

What about independants?

She is a very bright, insightful and interesting writer. very feminine in her outlook but she manages to pull it off with intelligence. Too bad she is on the evil side of abortion, she would have make a great pro - lifer.

Unfortunate indeed.

But can anyone tell me about the Rapture? And how does someone like Maureen Doud wind up believing in it?

We have a thread going in Politics forum om this which is making us laugh so hard, not too many serious comments over there.

D this week not only stands for Democrats, but for desperate.

But seriously, Mormons think they can have their own planet and tht there is a Mrs. God. Doesn’t make it true.

Mohammed Atta believed that when he arrived in Paradise, he would get all the delights of what Islam’s eternal life promised, doen’t make it true.

In the end, I suppose the Dowd has created her own version of “rapture” , doesn’t make that true either.

What I think is hysterical is that if George Bush had made the same statement she did, can you imagine the column she would have written? So typical.

Ah, but she’s a liberal. Liberals make rules for OTHER people to follow. 🙂

Welll - but I must admit the idea of having my own planet in the afterlife sounded appealing to me.

The Rapture is a doctrine invented by John Nelson Darby, an ex-Anglican priest who joined the Plymouth Brethren, in 1831. It is based on his misinterpretation of the 4th and 5th chapters of 1 Thessalonians. Darby was the first “dispensationalist” – the Rapture and Dispensationalism are tied together.

I doubt that Ms. Doud believes anything concerning the after-life, including that there is one. 😛

Maureen Dowd certainly said this (assuming she did) to mock and taunt the “red state” evangelicals she so despises. There are few columnists as snarky and elitist as Ms. Dowd.

Funny thing is Maureen Dowd, like John Kerry, is a nominal Catholic.

Her extreme bias is a big topic for Philip Jenkins in the New Anti-Catholicism: The Last Acceptable Prejudice.

Question- aren’t most (and I mean MOST, not all) Catholics Republicans? I am a teenager, but I support the Republican side, as the Democratic side tends to support abortion and gay marriage.
God Bless~

For years a great many Catholics, because we came from an immigrant class, were pretty muchDemocratic (exceptions to every rule do exist however); over the past decade or so, many have left over the radicalization of the party to the left and to issues which Catholics don’t favor.

You didn’t hear her accurately, she said “Rupture”. Democrats are going to be caught in the Rupture (of the party), but not Republicans.

Actually, Darby isn’t the first dispensationalist, but he did solidify and codify the dispensationalist theology, and was the first to definitively front the “Rapture” theory.

Have you thought about how much grass you’d have to cut on a place that big? 🙂

I’d buy a flock of llamas and let’em go to it.
