I noticed someone said that 70% of Catholics do not believe in the real presence. I thought we might conduct the same poll here in order to establish how accurate a snapshot that might appear.
I’m not sure on that. The statement is not 70% of the population, but someone made the claim that 70% of Catholics don’t believe in the real presence. The reason I placed other options in there is I want those who are not catholic to be able to answer as well.me thinks your poll on this site will be slightly in opposition to a general population poll.
The teaching of the Eucharist is the only thing i clung onto my entire life,
Considering that the word Catholic really embraces a lot of people I would not be surprised by the 70% number.I noticed someone said that 70% of Catholics do not believe in the real presence. I thought we might conduct the same poll here in order to establish how accurate a snapshot that might appear.
i think it’s pretty clear. if you are Catholic and accept the Church’s teaching on the Real Presence, that is inclusive of the other “problems” presented re non-catholic churches, etc.I think that the definition of the real presence is covered at the top by the answers themselves. Either you believe the churches teachings on it as a Catholic or you don’t believe in the real presence as presented. I guess I should have put an other?
Only 28% of Catholics attend mass on a weekly basis. I’m not sure how much I care about the other 70%'s opinion on the presence of the Eucharist anyways.I agree it’s not a scientific poll of any means. I am simply curious. I would imagine though if 70% of the general population of Catholics do not believe in the very main tenant of their faith, the source and summit of the Christian experience… that you would find it also being exposed even in the most conservative of forums by some of the members. Or we would have to say that 70% of the Catholic population are not conservative?
So then question number two is not the Church teaching??I think that the definition of the real presence is covered at the top by the answers themselves. Either you believe the churches teachings on it as a Catholic or you don’t believe in the real presence as presented. I guess I should have put an other?
No, I believe he is saying Real Presence is meant in the same sense as Catholic teaching. 1 and 2 are the same except 1 = Catholic, 2 = anything other Christian churchSo then question number two is not the Church teaching??![]()
That report has a lot of negative review. For instance, the survey claims that colleges have more influence than parents, so if someone believes against church teaching while attending college that it must be the college teaching against church teaching etc. It also has several flaws, including only interviewing 39 female catholic college students, out of the 1000 females involved and then using those numbers as a representative of a whole.
[Mass at least once a month? What kinda Catholics would that cover?]
