I have studied and identified the Star of Bethlehem from the Bible not from the sky.
It is not obscure conjunctions or hypothesized comet but the star Jesus identified His star in Revelation 22:16, the bright morning star. The short article is
The Glory of the Star of Bethlehem
I have also done two talks meant to be seen in sequential order
The Bible Reveals the Star of Bethlehem
The Wise men follow the Star to Jesus—
These are very Catholic, confirm the Churches’ dating of Christmas, our calendar, and Jesus and have no astrology implications.
Studying the sky and His star was necessary to understand it. The magi saw ‘his star’, as it rose with the sun. His star marked a golden scepter, a short line of three planets on the horizon. The rising of His star with the sun in two instances marked a picture telling the gospel story, then proceeded as the daystar to point the direction and in the second instance lingered in the west for 24 minutes after sunset low in the west over the ridge. Their movement up the ridge cancelled the downward motion of the star on the horizon making it appear to wait. They arrived on the evening of Passover. Many believe that the star that led to Jesus’ house did things that no star could do, so it was necessary for an angel to guide them. But God designed a very special star, that rarely, but when needed could guide in ways that no other star could guide.
Grace and peace,
Bruce
