Queering the Rosary
“Relational Mysteries” Prayed at Berkeley’s Newman Center

When Oakland’s Bishop Salvatore Cordileone visited Berkeley’s Jesuit School of Theology at the Graduate Theological Union on September 22, he was greeted by approximately 20 protestors. The protestors were seminarians and faculty from the theological union’s schools. The bishop was there to commemorate the merging of the Jesuit school with Santa Clara University. The protesters were there to oppose Bishop Cordileone for his defense of natural marriage.

According to the QueerToday.com website, protestors included Rev. Dr. Rebecca Parker, president of the Starr King (Unitarian Universalist) School of Ministry; Rev. Roland Stringfellow, the organizer of the GTU’s Center for Lesbian and Gay Studies; Rev. Sanna Reinholtzen, a Lutheran minister; **and graduate student Eugene McMullan, apparently a Catholic. **

According to the Bay Area Reporter, Mr. McMullan is the founder of Catholics for Marriage Equality. There is more than one organization with that name; presumably they mean the one in the bay area. On August 13, the BAR published an article called “Pray for Equality Outside St. Mary‘s.“ The article began: “The recently formed Catholics for Marriage Equality will be holding a prayer vigil outside St. Mary’s Cathedral in San Francisco Saturday, August 15, which is the feast of the Assumption. Organizer Eugene McMullan noted that on the Assumption, the Catholic Church celebrates Mary being bodily raised into heaven. Catholics for Marriage Equality will be praying the rosary while contemplating the Relational Mysteries.”

A crystal-clear description of purpose of the “Relational Mysteries” was given in the online calendar of the New Spirit/MCC Church in Berkeley. The entry was for an event held on Sunday, May 31, 2009, and reads: “GTU doctoral student Eugene McMullan and Reverend Jim Mitulski will lead a two part class on **“Praying the Queer Rosary,” **based on stories from the bible which depict Queer Families or Relationships. The class will include a brief history of the rosary, introduction to Catholic devotions, sharing of stories, and praying together.”

Let us pray that our Lady will pray for them in their struggles and confusions.
We must also pray that this kind of poison will not spread and infect the Church. All these people were created in the Divine Image, just as all of us have been. Giving in to any inappropriate sexual desires must be avoided by us all.
Replacing the traditional Mysteries with ‘politically correct’ ideas (even if ‘biblically based’) is a dangerous practise. (Maybe it has been done in the past?)
I trust that our Lord will speak through Our Lady to those partaking in this abomination.
 
I really wish Pope Benedict XVI would just fly over here and have a talk with these people. or that a Catechism would just fall off a shelf and open up to an appropriate page. I wonder if all the Bible verses against homosexuality are included in these “relational mysteries”?

This is just blasphemous! As far as I’m concerned, praying a heretical form of the rosary is tantamount to saying a black mass. Sacred heart of Jesus, have mercy on us!

Saint Michael the Archangel, defend us in battle!
Be our defense against the wickedness and snares of the devil!
May God rebuke him, we humbly pray!
And do you, oh Prince of the Heavenly Host, by the power of God, cast into hell, satan and the other evil spirits, who prowl about the world seeking the ruin of souls!

What are the “relational mysteries?” Lot and his daughters? Mary Magdalene before her repentance? Sodom and Gomorrah? Really… where in the world are they pulling out this idea of homosexuality celebration in Christian tradition and scripture?

Imagine if these HERETICS would make a Muslim Salat “relational”. Muslims would be after their head literally. Why do they target us? Is it because the Church holds the Truth and not willing to change it? Is it because Satan is holding them captive and are doing his bidding? Kyrie Eleison, Christe Eleison, Kyrie Eleison.
 
I wonder why Catholic Answers changed the name of this thread from “The Queering of the Rosary” to “The Relational Mysteries”? Is Catholic Answers that afraid of calling a spade a spade? It would seem so.

After all, it’s the sodomite community that has tagged this abomination “The Queering of”, not me. If anyone wants to be upset over the word “queer” being used, get upset at the homosexuals.

Catholic Answers, I’m very disappointed that you’ve shown yourselves to be so PC. Lets just tell the truth, and let the readership make up their minds on their own.
 
Gay activists use the term queer to describe themselves so I’m not sure why they would be upset. Especially in this context, the word was used in the article and was posted on a website that uses the word queer.

According to the original article, these are mysteries that are supposed to be about relationships between different people in the Bible:

Fidelity—Ruth’s pledge to Naomi (Ruth 1:16-18);
Grief—The parting of David and Jonathan (I Sam 20:35-42);
Intercession—Esther intercedes for her people (Est 4:9-5:2);
Restoration—the raising of Lazarus (John 11:38-44); and
Discipleship—the two encounter Christ on the road to Emmaus (Luke 24:13-35).

One may ask just how these biblical events fit in to the homoactivist agenda. The process is defined as “eisegesis” (the interpretation of a text by reading into it one’s own ideas) as opposed to “exegesis,” and it seems to be an ecumenical practice among religious homosexual activists. For example, the relationship between Ruth and Naomi will be interpreted as a lesbian one. The relationship between Saul, David, and Jonathon was interpreted by Episcopal Reverend John Kirkley, one of the nominees to be the next Episcopal suffragan bishop of Los Angeles, as a “Biblical Love Triangle.” The raising of Lazarus was the subject of a homily at San Francisco’s Most Holy Redeemer by Fr. Donal Godfrey, the executive director of University Ministry at USF. He titled his homily “The Call to Come Out.”

Well, if you believe in certain signs, she isn’t. Over the past year and a half, people all over the world have been reporting that their statues of Mary have been vandalized, with the left hand of Mary being removed. The outdoor ones **can **be attributed to vandalism, but the ones where the people’s statues are inside, on dressers or bookshelves, can’t.

If Mary is the Queen Mother (like Bathsheba was to Solomon), then she would be seated at the King’s right hand. If the king were to stretch forth his scepter to register justice upon someone, he would do so with his right hand. The queen, sitting at his right, would use her left hand to restrain the king from executing judgment.

With all these statues of Mary loosing just their left hands, it could be a sign that Mary is no longer restraining the hand of the King from executing judgment upon us.

I DO believe it! Let’s cleanse and prepare our hearts - perhaps the judgment will be lessened by our sincere tears of repentance!
 
Gay marriage is the new “cause celebre” for an activist media, which means that all future coverage will be biased against the stand of the Church on this issue. The Church will be villified as being too doctrinaire and narrow while the advocates of gay marriage will be cast in a soft light…as meek and humble civil rights activists…which is a blatantly false representation. Do you remember the homosexual supporter who grabbed the cross from the hands of an elderly woman at some sort of rally for the gay marriage ammendment in California? He and his comrades then proceeded to desecrate the Cross. As the media machine grinds this issue into the public consciousness, depicting the Church as some monolithic monster…be braced for more and more desecrations and defilings of all we hold sacred. Our Lady’s prayer should be burned onto our souls, where it can remain sacrosant and protected from all those who seek to profane its holiness.
