The Right to Bear Arms

OK, so here is a question. When there is a terrorist incident, you hear all sorts of politicians come out of the woodwork talking about how we need to be careful in our response here in America so that we do not give up our freedoms and allow the terrorists to force us to change our society. Certainly, we saw that after 9-11 with the resistance to the patriot act (I agree with that resistance by the way), on the part of the majority of Democrats and many Libertarians as well.

Now, looking at the writings of the framers of the US Constitution, it is painfully obvious that their intent was for all citizens to have the right to arms and that the militia included everyone.

So, how is this any different? Why should we allow evil people such as the one who perpetrated this horrific crime in CT to force us to change our society? Why should we allow them to force us to give up our freedoms?
Excellent point!! 😉

Huh??

Christ is the 2nd Person of the Holy Trinity, He is Eternal.

He has existed for a lot longer than David.

Christ is the same God that inspired David to kill Goliath, there is no other God.
I’m talking about His life on this earth.

I’m intrigued. What exactly do gun owners think they are going to do if the government attempts to take away their assault weapons or firearms?

Then you should know that the CHURCH says you have a moral obligation to defend those under your natural protection – your wife and children – even unto your own death. It is grievous sin not to do so, and I would say that a father who would not try to protect his family unto his death does not truly know love and is a failure in his calling as a man and father and husband.
And I need a gun for that! Again, I place my trust in the police.

It seems as though you are ignoring my post #325.

Since people seem willing to answer questions…

I’m sure these questions have been thrashed out in constitutional courts over the years but…

So why does that not mean that Americans should be part of a “well regulated militia” in order to “bear arms”? Which would be very similar to Switzerland’s model.
I’m no lawyer, but the Supreme Court has issued the following statement regarding the 2nd Amendment: “The Second Amendment protects an individual right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that arm for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home.” (District of Columbia v. Heller, 2008) I’m not sure that mandatory conscription would fly very well here in the US, especially right now.

More to the original point of this thread, private gun ownership is one of the most efficient means of self-defense that private citizens have. Also, the police aren’t omnipresent. IIRC, the Church doesn’t disallow legitimate self-defense – even the unfortunate use of lethal means if absolutely necessary. Therefore, I fail to see how the Church would be against responsible, legal gun ownership. Just my :twocents:. Surely everyone can debate about this reasonably without any undue loss of charity.

where precisely did all those crazies get their arms? i’m talking about the mass attacks on schools.
Usually stolen or bought off the black market, HOW DO YOU REGULATE THAT??
For a good example, watch taxi driver.

If we can’t come together to stop the murder of unborn children, what makes you think anyone cares about your AR-15 or 9mm?

Doesn’t matter. He is the same God, the same Love that inspired David to kill Goliath.

There is no difference.
Same God but different Persons. I’m talking about Christ’s ministry here on earth as described in the New Testament.
