Taranto has talked about this on the Best of the Web daily blog for a long time. The basic concept:
  • On average, kids emulate the politics of the home in which they were raised. (of course, there are exceptions, but generally this is true)
  • Democrats get more abortions than republicans, as a percentage.
  • Therefore, the future democrat voters are being killed off and republican numbers are increasing.

I’m an exception. my parents are liberals, and I’m not.

There should be more exceptions among liberals as their kids wonder they might have been killed in the womb as well.

I am too, kind of. My dad’s a diehard democrat. My mom is a former democrat, turned republican, turned green :whacky:

My own leanings were kind of :whacky: too.

Nixon in '72…I was 7 - a regular Alex Keaton.

Communist in High School. No, really…I read Das Capital and The Communist Manifesto and I was an existentialist athiest. I even defended Marx in my US Government class.

Democrat as a young married man.

Conservative shortly after learning critical thinking skills. 😃

Think of it this way:

Catholics have lots of kids and take over the world! With our German pope leading the way!!

I’m sorry. That was a little rude, especially the bit about the pope. But seriously… it makes sense. As long as Catholics keep having lots of kids and raising them right. Just because the left is loud doesn’t mean the left wins all.

And, abortion aside, who has more kids? Catholics who believe in following the catechism closely, or Catholics who have disregarded certain dogma?

I’m guessing that would be the Sanger Effect…

A well documened situation, BTW. When parents let heir children know they had an abortion the children often get a case of “survivors guilt”. The evil caused by Abortion permeates our society in more ways than we can imagine.

Old saying:

“Those who are not liberal when they are young have no heart
Those who remain liberal as they mature haveno mind”

I am a Conservatve republica who worked in the George McGovern Campaign in 1972.

But, Catholics aren’t having so many children any more. The large Catholic families of yesteryear aren’t the norm.

Catholic women go to work just as Protestant women do. And, they restrict the size of their families almost as much as the others do.

I think you need to differentiate between orthodox Catholics and heterox Catholics. What’s true for the country is also true for the Catholic Church in the United States. The Roe Effect will eventually tip the balance to the orthodox.

If you take a longer look throughout history. Civilizations that have adhered to the moral absolutes have prospered.

Didn’t know that one could make that differentiation in a survey.

At least that’s your hope.

Have there been any such Civilizations?

Who said anything about a survey. Heterox Catholic’s support abortion and are logically more likely to engage in the practice.

Not a hope just an observation
Have there been any such Civilizations?
Judaism, non-apostate Christianity, Islam, and some Hindu.

I don’t think so. I do think that less orthodox Catholics are more likely to use birth control, however.
Judaism, non-apostate Christianity, Islam, and some Hindu.
Your definition of prosperity is different from mine, it seems. Judaism has persisted, to be sure, but it has hardly prospered, if one understands that the majority of the world’s Jews are quite secular. I don’t know what you mean by non-apostate Christianity. Islam’s great period was for a few hundred years around the beginning of the 11th Century, and it certainly has not prospered for centuries. I am too unfamiliar with Hinduism to comment on it.

I agree they are more likely to use birth control but I think they are also more likely to use abortion.

I think your not taking a long enough view of history. Jewish history and culture has lasted 6,000 years. Christianity has lasted 2,000 years and has reached 2 billion people. Islam is even younger but they have expanded rapidly to 1 billion.

And, Egyptian Culture goes even further back. So, in that way, I can agree with you.

But, you mentioned prosperity, and just having the numbers that Christianity and Islam have might not equate to prosperity.

The ancient Egyptian culture has been subsumed by Islam.

The ancient Egyptian culture has been subsumed by Islam.
It lasted for thousands of years, then it died out as a civilization.

Islam arose in the 7th Century. The two civilizations are quite different. One was Egyptian and local, the other Arabic and international.

Ask the average public school student what abortion is and you get your answer as to where this country is going. The answer is not unexpected just sad.

ISLAM also states in their literature that their main goal is to make the world Islamic no matter the means. There is no commandment they are not willing or indeed told to break for this end.

JimG:
Do they? I didn’t know that. Most Muslim I have met in the US have small families. Maybe they’re hiding them…

…or sending them to camp :bigyikes:
