Women work if they stay at home with their children. They simply donā€™t work for a paycheck.
However if a woman wants to work for a paycheck and can handle the juggling act, more power to her!

Canā€™t answer this question with the options listed.
If women have kids in the home they should only work if their kids are in school and be home when they come home.
BUT - I am for homeschooling. You could call me anti-public school. šŸ˜‰

No one-sized answer. How about ā€œThis is a very individual and personal decision based on a multitude of factors,ā€ ?

I homeschool and work part time. My hubby and I work opposite shifts. My hubby does half the homeschooling and I do the other half.
I donā€™t believe in dumping your kids in day care just get personal satisfaction from your career though.

This kind of negates the women who donā€™t have the option of being wives and mothers. Iā€™m with WhiteDove on this, there is no ā€œone size fits allā€ answer.

I think some women should be nuns. The poll does not suggest this to me as an intended option. We need more options on the poll.

And who says mothers arenā€™t contributing to society by their very motherhood?

Amen !

Exactly. I think it is this very attitude that makes many mothers think they are not ā€˜making anythingā€™ of themselves unless they have a career outside the home.

And who says mothers arenā€™t contributing to society by their very motherhood?
I did not imply that mothers are not contributing to society by being mothers. They are, just as fathers contribute to society by being fathers. However, why should a personā€™s contribution end with parenthood? If everyone was just a parent, there would be no life saving medicine, no homes that protect us from the elements, no transportation, no literature, no schools, no governmentā€¦

Being a parent might be the most important contribution both men and women make, but I think building a society should be a part of every parentā€™s life. After all, those kids do need a world to grow up in.

When I made the poll I probably should have asked whether women should be the primary caretakers of children without doing anything outside the home, or whether men and women should both take an equally active role in raising the children and building the larger society for those children to grow up in.

Guess what? By parents raising their children to be productive members of society is building a society.
By the way women who are full time mothers DO work. You really should have worded that poll a little differently, itā€™s an insult to full time at home mothers who bust their butts and get little recognition for it.

I know that full time stay-at-home mothers work, possibly doing more work than a person working at an outside-the-home full time job.

I did not mean to insult stay-at-home mothers, but rather to ask whether this is how it SHOULD be.

Personally I think at-home parenting and outside-the-home contributions should be evenly distributed between the husband and the wife.

Raising children is building society, for families are the building blocks of society. The primary priority for both fathers and mothers is to care for and raise their family. They may not have time to do other noble society building tasks ā€“ but that is perfectly alright.

I am a woman and I think some of use are called to serve God in the single vocation or as consecrated religious.

Wondering what you people think! šŸ™‚
I think if God has blessed a woman with children, that this is her primary vocation, to ā€œevangelizeā€ and love our children. Because our children are the worldā€™s future adults, who will one day have families, and we want to pass on the faith to them, so they can live for Jesus too, and in turn pass it along to the next generation, etc. Anything else should be secondary, BUT, I do think as Catholics, we all do have Christian responsibility to see the big picture, to reach out to our neighbors, people in need, and the World around us, in which we live.

Hermione, how it should be is up to the individual woman. Some woman can handle the juggling act, young children, full time, or part time job. If they can, good!
If a woman chooses NOT to, good!
When my children were little ones, it probably would have benefited me to have a part timer outside the home. Now that they are in elementary school, I am back in school and searching for employment.
However, what makes me sad is babies being put in daycare at 6 weeks. šŸ˜¦ Yes, there are some people such as single moms where this is a needed action, OR a family would be without medical insurance if mom didnā€™t work.

I agree that children should not be put into daycare, but rather should be raised by their parent*s. *

The point I wanted to make is that instead of the husband working full time and the wife staying home full time, both could work part time AND stay at home with the children. That way the children will be raised by two parents rather than one, and both parents will contribute to building the larger society.

It think this is also better for the children. Everything Iā€™ve read/heard seems to say that children, especially male children, need involved fathers.

ā€¦to forgive meā€¦ šŸ‘

ā€¦to love me into heavenā€¦ šŸ‘

ā€¦and to stay away from all literature written by a woman named Bobbittā€¦ šŸ˜ƒ

That way the children will be raised by two parents rather than one, and both parents will contribute to building the larger society.

A mother or father devoting all their energy into raising a little one or little ones IS building a larger society.

I could not pick any of these choices. What about women who remain single or are either discerning or have entered the religious life as a nun? I do very much respect the choice of being a wife or mother, but even the bible says ā€œmarriage is not for everyoneā€. (I forgot the exact quote or where itā€™s located in the Bible):o
