The cross and turning the other cheek are the gospel. Weapons are for the enemy
In this context ‘weapon’ does not mean ‘instrument of destruction.’ The Rosary is a means to strengthen ourselves, oppose the Evil One and obtain the powerful intercession of the Blessed Virgin. Thus is this context it’s a weapon.

POWER OF THE HOLY ROSARY

“When you say your Rosary, the angels rejoice, the Blessed Trinity delights in it, my Son finds joy in it too, and I myself am happier than you can possibly guess. After the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, there is nothing in the Church that I love as much as the Rosary.”
Our Lady to Blessed Alan de la Roche

It’s understandable that some converts from protestantism carry over the ‘Jesus and me’ theology that they were indoctrinated with. Obviously Jesus wants others to be instruments of salvation…if He assigns us Guardian Angels to pray to then of course He would definitely want us to ask the Queen Mother for intercession on our behalf. But if you have been taught that the Blessed Mother is not special then I could see the aversion to praying to her.

Also I think the liberal political ideology of the ‘spirit of vatican 2’ looked to replace the image of our Lord as Warrior King with an everyday social worker. Let us remember that Jesus himself went into the desert looking for a fight and His Mother warned us that the final battle will be the attack on marriage and the family. All one has to do is look at the liberal democratic party platform to see that the battle is at hand.

Wish I could find it, but someone posted a great old picture of Mary punching the devil in one of these threads recently. I loved it! Mary crushes the head of the serpent, we are told. That’s a powerful, violent image.

I do hope this doesn’t shock anyone, but doesn’t that sound like a good beginning of a skipping rhyme?

Thanks for posting this! I chuckle at the devil in a tutu (!) with knobby knees and a paunch belly. And I love Mary’s glad and confident face. Mary is holding the Word of God, but what is the devil holding–a rope, perhaps a chain?

I can’t find it right now, but there’s also one of Mary going after a demon while an angel holds the baby Jesus for her.

Here’s another one…Hold my baby…

Every time I see that picture I think it looks like the Devil is trying to snatch Mary’s purse.
To me, it looks like Mary is going to give the Baby Jesus a good wallop. for having a tantrum.

Those are just great. Thanks for posting! The first one posted by (name removed by moderator) did give me a pause because it does look like Mary is about to hit Jesus! Or maybe Jesus is just clamoring to get her going in her beating the devil. In any case all of these make the devil laughably foolish don’t they? And Mary so in charge.

Spiritual weapon can also be used for defeating our sinful tendencies, for our will to master ourselves and to strengthen the will to practice virtue instead of yielding to our vices.

Our greatest enemy can be our sinful tendencies.

I’ve prayed the holy rosary for many years, and I try to pray the five decades every day. I am with those of us here for whom the idea of the rosary as a weapon does not have great personal appeal, but if God wants to use my simple, often self-centered and distraction-plagued prayer as a weapon, so be it.
