The Rosary: Which mysteries do you prefer to reflect upon?

Same here…I think I was so attached to sorrowful as it was my first penance after a quarter century of no Mass or confession. It left a deep impact on my soul and helped the transformation of it. Now, I absolutely love the Luminous Mysteries and look forward to when I can say an extra set.

When I went to see The Passion I brought my Rosary and prayed in the theater. It used to be the Sorrowful mysteries especially the Agony and the Crucifixion. Now with circumstances, I’m inclined toward the Luminous mysteries; most especially the Baptism and the Temptation.
 
I just love the new luminous mysteries, I guess because they’re new and open up fresh possibilities every time said. Seems almost odd that they were not part of the original rosary which jumps from the finding in the temple to the agony in the garden and bypasses the entire ministery of Christ. JPII filled in the gaps admirably.
 
Actually…I recall reading that a Priest in the 1950s suggested the Luminous Mysteries…I cant recall where I read it…if anyone can fill in.
 
Sorrowful. It keeps me humble and reminds me of what had to be done for me to rescue me from the sin I was drowning in. It keeps me penitent.

My favorite single mystery is the Incarnation/Annunciation, ever since St. Louis de Montfort pointed out that at that moment, God came down from heaven to enter life as a human just like one of us. It often brings tears to my eyes.

I pray the Sorrowful Mysteries. I read somewhere that mediatation on the Passion carries the force of salvation. This is also why we need a crucifix in every church!

When I pray the mystery I pray it with a soul suffering in Purgatory. Indeed the Gibson movie has provided plenty of visuals. Each bead is for me a step through a mystery.

I tend to want to see all through Mary’s eyes and heart.

Pope JPII was right when he said that the Holy Rosary shows us the face of Jesus. Indeed, as I pray, it is his face that I see - amazing and wonderful.

Please share the virture and/or contemplation you use for Joyful mysteries 4 and 5.

For 4, I contemplate on how Our Lord was presented to the Church of his birth - I reflect upon my Baptism and how we are children of the wonderful gift that is the Catholic Church.

For 5, I contemplate on how Our Lord become ‘lost’ at the temple. Am I spending enough time at Church - at Mass or praying or assiting my parish?

I like to recall Simeon, who when seeing the Christ Child at the temple, proclaimed:

:bible1: “Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel.” Luke 2:29-32

How often do we recognize Christ? Have we ordered our priorities so that Christ is all we feel we truly need?

I would add this: When we “lose” Christ, is it that He is in the wrong place, or are we?

once for several months when teen daughter was having problems, meditated exclusively on Finding the Child Jesus in the Temple. Now walk every morning for the time it takes to pray the entire rosary.

I agree, when I invoke Jesus’ name in the Hail Marys of the Joyful mysteries, I say, “…thy womb Jesus, God of the unborn.”

My favorite, by the way, are the Mysteries of Light. I don’t know if its because they’re new, but I love being able ot reflect on the Gospels during the Rosary. Of course, I love all the mysteries, they’re each special in their own way, but I look forward to Thursdays. Fridays and Tuesdays are special in that I can reflect on Christ’s passion. On Glorious days, I enjoy begging Christ to come again! And the Joyful, I haven’t yet found my eagerness to pray them yet, but I suppose I will soon.
 
I’ve always had difficulty with the “contemplating” part of the Rosary. I guess I am just too easily distracted. I find that using a scriptural rosary (where each Hail Mary is accompanied by a verse of scripture related to the mystery) helps me keep my focus. So in that regard, I guess my rosaries are not really very “contemplative”. But it works for me.

At first I couldn’t pick and thought it was because I liked them all equally. So I was going to pick them all. Then I realized I wasn’t picking one over the others because of guilt for the other three. What a horsehead eh. Once I got past that it became plain that I am very attached to the sorrowfull mysteries because they help humble me when I don’t want to feel anger about something.

I like to read my scriptures before meditating and the scripture referenced in The Essential Mary Handbook is Judith 13:23-31 oddly my Catholic Women’s Bible ends Judith chapter 13 at verse 20. If anyone has these scriptures I would love to know what they say.

I rediscovered this thread I started a few years ago. I wonder if people’s thoughts are similar now as they were then (plus we have new members since this thread as well).
 
I go through the 7 day rotation listed on the CDs that I ripped (see signature). The two I get the most out of are the Glorious and Sorrowful, then comes the Joyful and last the Luminous (still hard to follow those).
 
I prefer all; however, besides praying the daily rosary, I pray one decade of the Sorrowful one before going to bed. So, in one week, I would finish an extra Sorrowful - I need to be reminded constantly my sins and His great Mercy.
 
I have been substituting 2 Divine Mercy Chaplets for the Rosary on some days. In a way the Divine Mercy chapelet reminds me of the sorrowful mysteries because we mention the Lords sorrowful passion so many times while praying the DM Chapelet. I find it very healing for me and others in my life. That being said… I always come back to praying the Rosary… and my days are punctuated with Ave Maria’s here and there.

These days when I pray the Rosary I tend to gravitate to the Joyful Mysteries… especially the Annunciation…and the Glorious Mysteries…I think its to balance the sadness of some who are close to me… and to have thoughts of Christian hope in order to give a good example.
