Which ‘shotgun definition?’ Nobody here is arguing that ‘David’ needs to put some clothes one. Michealangelo wasn’t decorating a gay bar, he was creating genuine art. Actual art that includes nudity isn’t necessarily porn and I was careful to phrase my definition that way. Porn is about intent, not just content. That’s why its hard to regulate judicially. But no lawyerly rationalizing will hold up in the court of God’s judgement. Stop engaging in it.
You’re cutting the reader of the book or the watcher of the film out of your equation. While one reader may be underlining the “dirty parts of a novel” another is seeing the relationship between characters is really an indictment of the class system of a culture in that same novel. I happen to think the film 9.5 Weeks is fantastic study of what happens when someone allows another to push them beyond their emotional limits and surrender their will. Others would say it’s just soft porn. Could some of the scenes be chopped down? Probably, but then the film really loses its power. I have issues there.

What I do have a problem with it’s the latest genre of horror films which some have called, and I think rightly so, torture porn which is just one scene of extreme cruelty shown in explicit detail one after another with no rhyme or reason.

By the way Michealangelo was most likely gay…at least bisexual.

As someone who works in the media, I have watched ‘serious art’ devolve into porn over the last 40 years. There was money in it. It doesn’t matter what Michaelangelo’s possible sexual orientation was.

Every year, over the last 40, all I heard was talk about “pushing the envelope.” What does that mean? The full statement is “pushing the envelope of what people find acceptable.” Or how about “tame by today’s standards.” Whose standards? What standards? Can someone show me where these standards are written down? Can someone tell me who sets these standards? And who changes them?

How about an R rated movie 30 years ago? How about an R rated movie today? Do you know that Directors would get on the phone with censors to try to convince them to keep some partial nudity in a scene? Did porn suddenly start telling sophisticated stories to attract an audience of intellectuals?

Just like any drug addict needing more and more dope to get a reaction, it’s not surprising that horror ‘needed’ to get more and more graphic and more and more maniacal.

Peace,
Ed

Because a good **** is usually not a motivating factor in the overall behavior of a person ot a culture.
And so you describe perfectly why porn needs to go away!

It motivates individuals and cultures to treat their fellow human beings like slabs of meat. It reduces their humanity to an object to be used so another can ‘get-off’.

Thanks for proving my point.👍

Just so you know where your porn come from…

Over 90% of porn actresses were sexually abused as children.

You really can’t see the connection?

Little Johnny grows up watching his father treat women like objects. He hears comments like “I’d like a piece of that” and “What a body”. Little Johnny sees Daddy’s Playboy’s magazines laying around. Little Johnny starts abusing himself over these rags.

Can you see where this leads Johnny?

While grown up Johnny is in Singapore on business he sees nothing wrong with sending out for a little 13 year old.

To claim soft porn has no connection to the sex slave trade is worse than the clowns in tobacco claiming smoking is safe.
It seems Johnny’s issue was his inadequate father figure, not the fact that he stumbled onto a magazine. You didn’t even mention soft core porn in your post until you reached the conclusion.

Johnny’s issue was his lack of respect for his fellow human.

This he learned from porn which he was taught was okay because it “didn’t harm anyone”.

If you were to just start viewing hard-core porn it would probably just make you sick. It takes time to be desensitized before you can actually watch it, and lad mags, skinamax and other soft porn serve that purpose.

soft core porn is like a gateway drug. It goes from soft core porn to progressively more explicit fare, then to porn in 3-D with willing partners, then to porn in 3-D with paid partners. You start viewing woman as objects in soft core porn and then pretty soon you’ll find yourself wandering around dark alleys in Lagos, Nigeria looking for underage sex workers. I’ve seen it happen before and the men involved in that kind of thing always have a problem with viewing porn.

It doesn’t matter to the topic at hand what inclinations Michaelangelo had. The point is that his art here was clearly intended to convey a message about humanity, not make people aroused. If it were the latter, history would have discarded it centuries ago and nobody would know his name.

There is no doubt that sometimes in film, painting or sculpture the sexual nature of humanity can be portrayed within moral bounds. Like I said, lawyers can’t define it, but a good conscience can easily tell the difference. I haven’t seen the movie you cite.

I’m usually happy and content being a silent lurker but I could not pass up the opportunity to applaud you gentlemen. It is beautifully refreshing to stumble upon gems such as yourselves. You really have no idea. Thank you for defending human dignity.

cheers

🙂

P.S. Thank you edwest2 for the website. I had never considered how cruelly these girls are treated. (shelleylubben.com/pornstars)

Hmmm… So enough time watching movies with ‘sensual content’ and you’ll eventually start viewing women as objects?

sensual could be portraying a loving couple cuddling and showing love to one another, through acts of kindness, or a loving smile. Sexuality is a little different. Wearing inappropriate immodest clothing, sleeping with multiple partners, seeing woman’s bare parts as if this is normal viewing, yes you start to view woman as merely sexual objects and not real people.

One way we all can help battle sex trade is to stop watching porn and to refuse to accept soft porn in our shows on television. The increase of the Pornography industry is connected to the increase of the sex trade because many sexual offenders have started with porn.

So, my point, is to attack the root of the cause to kill the offense entirely.

In this we all can take steps…
Sex trade is not new, I was in Tombstone museam few weeks ago, prostiution was a huge industry there. Was there porn, sure to a small degree, but nothin like today.

A very powerful statistic. Maybe you will be so kind as to link us to the source for it so we can examine the study in full, how it was conducted, and how it reached its conclusions?

Sorry to trouble you with this, but you know how it is: 98.548927348923% of statistics are just dishonestly made up on the spot so you can not just accept these things on face value and all 🙂

So being raised by porn is the issue.
Can you really not see it?

look at the children the porn industry has made. Girls are taught by watching your prime time tv that they are objects to satisfy men. They go to school dressing more and more suggestively. They have more partners than our generation had by the time they graduate high school. (and our generation was not that great, - I graduated hs in the early 90’s).

This weekend sit down and watch a few shows on prime time. Tell me that there is not soft porn there. And with teens doing the deed. Look at some of the most popular shows. Desperate house wives, comes to mind. In fact you don’t even have to watch the shows watch the commercials for the shows. Women running around in teddies to get their guys. Men unable to control their urge. Bisexuality, homosexuality. It is all being forced down our children’s throats. And it is not just on tv. It is magazines. Go to your local grocery story see what they have on the shelves next to the candies. Half dressed women. Headliners that talk about how to get better sex. Drive down the highway and look at the billboards. Adds for “gentlemen bars”, try explain to your eight year old what that is when he asks, with the barely dressed woman with her red lipped mouth opened suggestively larger than life. How do you think that effects our children both male and female?

And than we wonder why there is a sex trade? Don’t wonder and don’t look for the big bad mafia. Because it is in our back yard and in our house.

In less than 20 years children have went from watching full house to watching two and half men. It is amazing when you think about it.

But these prostitutes you speak of from this time era were there by there own choice, and they wernt teeny tiny little kids.

I’d suggest you read this near a restroom so you don’t get sick all over your house.

The best we can do besides going in there and kicking some human trafficker butt:p is to Pray for these poor girls who are living thru hell on a daily basis. Prayer is the ultimate form of charity and it is the most effective way. We must also pray for these miguided traffickers that they realize what they are doing is wrong.

May GOD have mercy on are souls.

I honestly felt sick to my stomach after reading, especially the first link. It’s so sad that women today are deteriorated into nothing but play things and eye candy. I hope and pray that these girls will be able to heal from all that has happened to them. Today’s media and entertainment sickens me, they constantly shove sex down people’s throat. It’s refreshing to see that there are good men out there who are against this kind of abuse and treatment.
