Giving a talk during World Youth Day July 29, this young Iraqi Catholic woman told how her family has suffered terribly from ISIS. But after struggling with herself about this, rather than harboring an understandable hatred for ISIS, now she prays for ISIS and their conversion. “Anger just makes you angry and bitter,” she said, but it is fruitful, even for yourself, when you turn that into mercy and forgiveness. She says now as she prays the Divine Mercy chaplet, instead of praying “‘for the sake of his sorrowful passion have mercy on us and the whole world,’ I pray ‘have mercy on ISIS and on the whole world.’”
