Does the Shroud of Turin, stigmata and even exorcisms strengthen your faith? Or do you dismiss these phenomenons?

Exorcism to an extent, stigmata maybe, shroud of Turin has to much reasonable doubt around it.

After meditating before the exposed Eucharist about a year ago, I realized that for a God who can be fully present in the form of bread, exorcisms are a mere display of might. He could vanquish every demon by simply no longer allowing them to exist.

Our universe is fundamentally good, because its all powerful creator is good. All struggles with evil are just the means to reveal this great truth!

The shroud is an interesting piece. I read where the shroud is true and then the article proceeded to prove that it really was true. The next thing I know, it isn’t true with proof for that. Then the next article says… and then the next … It’s like a toggle switch. I’ve come to the point of being neutral, but it is still interesting.

The stigmata dosen’t really move me. Although the stigmata Christ suffered does. What is more interesting to me is that certain saints could smell sin in people. One saint never wanted to go to town where she would be immersed in crowds, because some of the souls had stench so bad from sin she could barely stand it. So she always avoided crowds. Just think if that were to be the case with everyone today, that they could smell the horrible odor of sin. This could very well bring about the greatest reform the church has ever witnessed.

Exorcisms do interest me because it does more or less prove another world does exist, and how evil the devil is. And of course Jesus was the supreme exorcist in the bible. Particular of interest are the thousands of pigs in Genesereth which were allowed to be taken over by the devils. I believe Jesus allowed this so we could see with our eyes that they really exist and how many can exist in one or two people.

Just one or two thoughts.

You don’t have to have any faith in the Shroud but I think it would be foolish not to. Although I confess it doesn’t do much for me. I’m pretty much of a skeptic on things like that and flying priest and nuns too. The stigmata is not necessarily a sign of holiness, so again I stay away form these things. Exorcisms are real enough because Christ and the Apostles were casting out demons all the time. But I don’t see how the mere fact that they still go on would strengthen one’s faith. My faith would be increased more if we lived in a world where they weren’t called for. If you want to strengthen you faith, go to daily mass as often as you can, receive the sacraments regularly, have a regular and deep prayer life, avoid occasions of sin, see how you can help the parish, the poor, etc. You don’t need any more unless your confessor suggests more.

I like all those phenomenon but as LinustheSecond said , the Sacraments should be more so relied upon to increase faith. These things can be added in addition to a grounded Sacramental life .

God bless you always through Mary +++

When I started reading and learning about such things (as an adult–never heard of them as a kid and yes I grew up Catholic and churchgoing), and similar things like the visions and prophecies of the saints, Marian apparitions, eucharistic miracles, incorrupt bodies, etc.–

I realized that hey, I wasn’t staking my faith on this, but I also realized that I acknowledged that these things could be true because of God’s power, omniscience, power, and goodness. Embracing the “could” was enough for me, and it opened my mind and my heart to God even more. 👍

I believe in exorcisms because Christ did them and said his disciples would do even greater miracles.

He won the victory. Everything since Christ is just a mop-up operation.
