Are there any ‘silly women’ out there who dare to live life single? Who dare to face life’s challenges without a man to lean on? Who dare to show their faces in public, saying to all that ‘hey i’m okay, i’m single… and i’m still an equal member of society’. Are these silly women attempting to say that they are capable of making ‘adult’ decisions, of looking after their properties, of being able to correctly judge people and situations, of using their money wisely and of making good choices - on their own? without the superior assistance and guideance of a man?

Are there really such silly women out there, or are there only crafty women who manipulate men?

Please men, don’t answer.

No doubt this is unintentional, but you’ve framed your query in a way that is rather insulting to those of us who have paired off with a man.

Both my Great Grandmother and Grandmother were. My Great Grandmother was a bought bride, came to the US, seen the guy who she was to marry and married his brother instead. He died about 7 years into their marriage, she was in her 20’s. She worked, (finished paying of the debt of her arranged marriage that didn’t happen)bought a 3 story house, rented out two apartments and raised 2 kids all alone, while barely speaking English. This was in the 1920 when her husband died.

Then my grandmother also got married and we are not sure what happened to her husband but he was gone before my mother was born. But she raised my mother (1937) with my Great Grandmother, and then took over the house when my Great Grandmother died. Neither one of them every had a man again in their lives.

Luckily my mother broke that streak when she married my dad and they were married for 40 years when my father unfortunately died unexpectedly.

So it is possible to live without a man.

Where are you going with this? 🤷

Indeed!! Not silly women at all! Congratulations to them. I would like to print & distribute it to those who proclaim it simply isnt possible for a woman to manage in such a way.

If you were a married woman who said to your husband and others how a woman cannot exist successfully without a man, i’d say you might be crafty.

What an amazing story of two strong women!

Love it your mom “broke the streak”

Mary.

I’m sorry to say that there are too many single women out there without men. My husband works with at least 7 unmarried profession rocket scientists who love God (not all catholic … Some Mormon, some Protestant, some Budhist). He is prayin for them to not be so lonley often. I keep telling him, they are too good for the quality of men in their dating pool and they are probably happier alone. He states that they still need companionship, and I agree, IDK if a husband would cure the lonlyness for them though. It’s easier to get the single men into meeting women but it’s hard to find women single men, IMO. Probably because being female, I know more females.

Across the street there was a single, never been married, professional man whom my husband said was nice … He died alone at the age of 47 due to a heart attack. That really shook my husband to the core when it happened … So I would imagine there are many lonly men out there too.

That’s a bit odd. Most women don’t say that sort of thing, at least not in developed countries these days. Heh, I don’t usually get accused of being crafty, either! What exactly is crafty about a woman who says women can’t survive on their own, especially when it’s self-evidently untrue?

Are there really such silly women out there, or are there only crafty women who manipulate men?
Why the false dichotomy? I’m sure there are plenty of silly (literally) single women out there. And plenty of silly married women. There are also plenty of single AND married women who are not silly at all.

Tearing down others is what seems silly to me.

After being left alone with three children, I was single at 34. I assure you I was not silly. I worked very hard to secure a comfortable life for myself and my three daughters. I was an independent executive female with a beautiful home, and strong spiritual life and a wonderful family. I never felt I NEEDED a man. However, life is all about options. By chance, a few years later, I met a wonderful man. We became great friends and began dating.
I made the choice to be his partner and we married. He is, no question, my best friend and we have blended our families over the last 20 years to be happy and healthy.
Point being: I am no different now, than when I was single. I am actually more “silly” with my husband than I ever was alone. I was completely comfortable in my own skin being both single and married.
Like I said: Life is all about options.

Well, I’m single and strong…But I also don’t need to “prove” my strength by tearing down my married friends as somehow being weak and silly, or by tearing down men as being controlling and trying to destroy my dignity as a woman.

You sound hurt and bitter. I’ll keep you in my prayers.

Gertie

Women and men can serve God in the single life which is a vocation as well as married and religious. I certainly admire your accomplishments. A co-worker is single, she has a full-time job and a part-time job, both with law firms. We were so proud when she bought her own house. She is highly respectable, cheerful at all times. Congratulations and count your blessings.

:D:D I think there are many. “Singles” know that they are able to do all these things but sometimes society doesn’t treat them that way.
To be honest it is not as bad in secular society, but if you are from a immigrant/religious community and not married by 30, reunions and family dinners can be painful. What I have learned to do is smile and move on.

I didn’t take what the OP posted as being hard on married people.

Well maybe I was looking on it from the perspective of being from a smaller community where if you are single you are indeed thought of as “silly” or “not adult”. I took her post as more tongue-in-cheek and reflecting the view of how some people she knows would see single people.

I agree with this.

As well as being insulting to married women in general, this also comes across as quite sexist (although I don’t think that was the intention, I think that I’m reading it wrong). When a woman gets married, they don’t stop being an ‘equal member of society’, or stop making important decisions. It also comes across as though you are suggesting that men have more to offer a marriage than a woman does; my husband depends on me as much as I depend on him.

My husband and I were both capable of staying single, but decided not to. I think that being single is just as good as being married, but everyone has to make their own choices, and one choice isn’t better than the other.

Only a silly woman sees strength and wisdom as incompatible with marriage, when in fact those qualities make you better suited to be a wife.
