The Sisterhood: Becoming Nuns TV Show

I was wondering if anyone was watching the TV Show on Lifetime called The sisterhood: Becoming Nuns. While there is the reality TV Drama, I find the sisters and convents that they visit very interesting, that it out weighs the Girls who are trying to figure out if they want to continue on with discernment. I also wonder if this is a tactic to reach he younger generation, to think about maybe they would like to be a nun.

Never heard of it but it sounds interesting. Seems it can be watched online.

I’ve watched the first two episodes. I agree with you about finding the Sisters to be more interesting and the girls probably are just the extras in showcasing the life of the convent.
 
I’ve watched the first two episodes and really enjoyed them. I’ve been impressed that they’re actually explaining some of the different aspects of Catholicism in general and religious life in particular. For a secular viewer with little to no knowledge about Catholicism, it could be confusing, or seem hokey and weird, but I don’t think it’s been negative, which is really, really different than how the Church is normally covered. In some cases it’s been outright positive! Surprise!

I have gotten irritated a bit with how they’ve tried to put the discerning girls in certain roles. I knew from the first few minutes of the first episode that Claire was going to be presented as holier-than-thou and a know-it-all. The younger girls are definitely more immature and they haven’t been presented very positively, either, which is too bad. Of course the stuff they show actually happened, but having been a bit of a reality TV junkie (😊) I’ve noticed that with selective editing and contrived situations reality TV sets up the same kinds of storylines and good guys/bad guys roles that you’d find in scripted TV.

But overall, I think it’s great that there’s a show about young women who actually practice their faith and pray and clearly love Jesus. I’m kind of sad that they left the Carmelites to go to another convent. I really liked them! Of course, I may end up liking the ones from the most recent episode, too, but I agree that it’s really the nuns who steal the show so far.
 
Well, what I was able to watch of episode one before computer troubles did, for this Catholic viewer, seem a bit schmaltzy at times but it’s nice that all these Sisters are allowing people to see how their lives are lived and dedicated to Christ. It’s a good thing for young girls and women to be seeing who might not otherwise consider or even know of such a life. The show has a good concept and I’m interested in seeing more.
 
So the girls changed convents? I only saw episode one and am not a fan of reality tv so I also found it “schmaltzy” and a little unbelievable that these girls seemed to not have a clue as to what would be expected of them.
I don’t plan on watching the show anymore, but I am glad to hear the nuns will be able to share aspects about Catholicism for viewers to learn who are non-catholic.
I don’t even know what night it comes on.

I set it to DVR, but I think it’s on Tuesday nights and you can watch online, too.

I thought the second episode was much better than the first. It’s clear that the older three girls (Christie, Claire, and I forget the other one’s name - the one who was in theater before) know their faith really well although they practice it differently (e.g. Christie has a more charismatic background, Claire is more traditional.) They actually bother to show a bit of what that looks like in practice. 😛

I don’t think the other two girls know much, but again that could just be what they show on TV. They have the most “dramatic” moments so far (walking off, yelling, being upset about what the nuns ask them to do.) Eseni’s “thing” is that she left a boyfriend (who’s actually kind of a jerk about the whole thing, but I think we’re supposed to think it’s romantic that he keeps bothering her.)

What a fabulous word! One that isn’t used often enough. I’ll make it my word of the day.

As for the show, I haven’t seen it. Maybe I will, given the reviews here. I did hear the end of their guest spot on a show on XM Radio’s Catholic Channel.

Yes it is those dramatic moments that appear scripted to me that I don’t have the patience for.

I liked it too. A good word to describe the show.
I had not heard it in a long time either!
 
i think al crest interviewed one of them yesterday. i had no idea what i was listening to.
 
The girls will visit a different convents over the course of the series (6 episodes):
Convents visited include: The Carmelites for the Aged and Infirm in Germantown, New York; The Daughters of St. Mary of Providence in Chicago, Illinois; and The Sisters of St. Joseph the Worker in Walton, Kentucky.

I agree with the others here, that the best part of the show comes from the nuns themselves. Credit is due to the producers for showing them in a favorable light. I’m reserving judgement on the series as a whole until the last episode, hoping that we see some development of spiritual maturity in the girls along the way. Without that, it would be just another reality show not worth following.

Well they aired the next two episodes showing them at The Daughters of St. Mary of Providence in Chicago, Illinois. I enjoyed the sisters there more then the ones in NY, I look forward to seeing the sisters in Kentucky. Now I wonder if they do have a program for young woman who can visit several orders to determine what the Sisterhood is all about and if it is for them. Now the girls on the show, I doubt that any of them are seriously will become a nun. But at least like someone said, for a change the Catholic faith is being shown in a good light (so far).
 
Sounds like a real interesting and probably worthwhile show! Will have to try to watch it either online or on tv. Thanks very much to the OP for starting the thread!
 
It would be a good show if those girls were truly interested in the vocation and not just any girl planted there with no real interest in the vocation, by the shows producers.
 
I saw the ads for the show and wanted to see the first episode…worried about how the Church and nuns would be portrayed… I was pleasantly surprised that there wasn’t negative/misinformation about the Church and nuns. I wonder about the girls who are visiting/discerning. It seems to me that some of them hadn’t a clue what life in convent was all about…I find that very unrealistic…hadn’t they ever been on a retreat? If not, how can they even be close to discernment?
Looking forward to seeing rest of the episodes.

What! I missed that episode!!! I worked at one of their homes outside of the city. My sister lives there the is severely mentally challenged. I have been to the Chicago house a few times. I only saw the first episode. I was relieved that the sisters were not made to look rediculous. I will have to find reruns. I wonder if I would recognize any of the sisters. I knew a lot of them.

I think that is the case for three of the five - they are genuinely interested. The last two episodes made me more interested in them. I am getting more irritated with the younger two girls - if they are serious about discerning, they are in the very, very early stages, and need to know a LOT more about their faith whether they end up having a vocation to the sisterhood or not.

One of the girls mentioned in an episode that she had been discerning off and on for nine years, and it definitely showed while they were in Chicago.
