Sola Scriptura is clearly defined as Scripture being the only infallible rule of faith. When asked, by what authority do you interpret Scripture, the practitioner is quick to suggest that the Holy Spirit is the only authority required.

Doesn’t the infallibility of the Holy Spirit dwelling in Christians logically contradict the position that Scripture alone is infallible. Or do Sola Scripturist not hold that the Holy Spirit dwelling in them is infallible?

There’s another glaring fault. Scripture itself does not command Sola Scriptura therefore by its own definition it can’t be true.

As I see it, bible Christianity shares something in common with Darwinian evolution: the missing link.

As a Protestant, some parts of the Bible didn’t seem to add up to me. After I became Catholic, it all made much more sense. The Bible, and how it arose out of the Church and not the other way around, made all the difference for me.

It’s just wild to listen to a Scholar like James White make such a massive blunder.

There’s another glaring fault in that logic. If the Holy Spirit guides them, how come there are 10,000+ Protestant denominations, each disagreeing with the other in Bible interpretation?

I believe that the Bible pretty much answers that question in Judges Chapter 21, verse 25

“In those days there was no king in Israel; everyone did what was right in their own sight.”

In the debates I’ve heard they always attack the Catholic Dogmas concerning Mary and the Pope. Even this is a faulty argument though, because Eastern Orthodoxy doesn’t have these Dogmas and they reject the doctrine as well.

Not to mention, as you said, even if you keep the doctrine of Sola Scriptura, it’s no garauntee against a sacramental system (Anglican).

I think if Jesus could speak today, he would say the same thing he did to the Samaritan woman in John 4:22, when challenged on the which sect was right: Jews vs Samaritans.
You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
But instead today he would say “for salvation is from the Catholic Church.” Indeed, it is a doctrine of the Church!

If the holy spirit guides Christians, then why are there so many other denominations that disagree with each other? The bible does not say Sola Scriptura is the way to be saved,it can’t be true.

Dr. David Anders, theologian, noted convert and host of the EWTN radio show “Called to Communion” asks: Where in scripture does it indicate that Jesus founded His Church on any writing at all? Where did He teach that disputes are solved by running to the bible and arguing? Where did He say “He who reads the bible hears Me?”

Nowhere. It’s not in there. It is a 16th century European innovation. An innovation which rejects the vast majority of both Christ’s as well as the Apostles’ teaching that is not recorded in the bible. Sola Scriptura turns salvation into a DIY project.

That is not the heart, mind or will of Christ. He founded a Church and made a promise about it that will endure to the end of time.

But instead today he would say “for salvation is from the Catholic Church.” Indeed, it is a doctrine of the Church!
And no! If Jesus were to walk the earth today he would be appalled by ALL that is going on INCLUDING the Catholic Church. We all have so much to be ashamed about.

Where did He teach that disputes are solved by running to the bible and arguing? Where did He say “He who reads the bible hears Me?”
This. And when Protestants ask: why is oral tradition so important? well because at the time of Jesus and for the next 1900 years most people were illiterate! Jesus knew this so it was very wise of him not to command any Bible to be written but to send the Apostles to preach the good news orally.

Not to mention Acts chapter 15 clearly shows the Church having authority to settle debates concerning interpretation of the New Covenant.
Guaranteed both sides were presenting scripture from the Old Testament to support their position.

Just play the telephone game (maybe called something different where you are from) and you will see how a story can change!

I understand the difficulty but Scripture does help with that problem. Scripture does keep Tradition from corruption it just doesn’t override it as Protestants suggest. They are co-equal in authority.

I mean I could lay out each logical step that concludes the authenticity of the Catholic Church but we’d be here a while. Suffice it to say that when the depths of Catholic teaching are continually tested it still stands with the best explanation of our existence thus far.

Sola Scriptura on the other hand can be refuted using logic Alone.

Let’s break down some direction:
Hybrid Pascal’s wager shows it is logically irrational to gamble when you stand to lose absolutely. The only significant God to offer absolute loss on the table is the God of Abraham.

Sola Scriptura is logically self refuting. Some people can not understand that but it is a fact when tested thoroughly.

On the table for rational world views would be:
Judaism, Eastern Orthodoxy, Islam, and Catholicism.

Islam sees God as master not as Love itself. Philosophical arguments conclude that whoever God is he must be omnibenevolent. Love is perfection. God as simply master is lacking perfection. Even political science can conclude that the best society would be one with an omnibenevolent dictator.

Eastern Orthodoxy is out due to lack of conviction historically. After the initial schism they actually rejoined the Catholic Church for a short period of time in the Middle Ages.

Again Sola Scriptura is logically false so every Christian denomination that adheres to it is positing error at the foundation of their authority.

Atheism fails because the problem of evil is self refuting. You need a good God for objective morals. Not to mention their irrational gamble during Pascal’s wager.

Sooooooooo…
Judaism and Catholicism

And the answer is …
Catholicism because man can not pull himself up by his bootstraps. He is subject to the mercy of God. The foundation of Catholicism is that God himself redeemed us. Greatest Truth ever told.

The Bible was composed from oral teachings. So your view is that the Bible cannot be trusted because of the telephone game phenomenon. That’s good to know. So what exactly DO you believe?
