This is a reminder to the Roman Catholics of the United States who follow the Ordinary Form about next week’s Mass obligations.
This reminder is for you, if you are in the United States, AND if you are in one of the following ten states (Everywhere else, in the United States (i.e., outside of the ten states, listed below), the Ascension has been transferred to the Seventh Sunday of Easter (Sunday, May 13), and in such regions of the United States, the faithful are not obligated to attend Mass on the evening of Wednesday, May 9/some time on Sunday, May 10): Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, and Vermont.
Thursday, May 10 is the Solemnity of the Ascension of the Lord, and a Holy Day of Obligation. Please either contact your parish or consult your parish bulletin, for the Mass schedule, for the Holy Day.
In order to fulfill your obligation to attend Mass for the Ascension, you MUST attend Mass, either on the evening of Wednesday, May 9 (for the Mass of Anticipation (fulfills the obligation to attend Mass, for the Holy Day)), OR some time on Thursday, May 10.
NOTE: Remember to fulfill your Sunday obligations to attend Mass, as normal. Attending Mass to fulfill your obligation for the Ascension WILL NOT fulfill your obligation to attend Mass for the preceding and/or following Sunday, and vice-versa.

- Moreover, deliberately/freely choosing not to attend a Mass for a Sunday or a Holy Day of Obligation (grave matter and deliberate consent), along with full knowledge of the gravity of the sin (and that the act is sinful, of course), together, is a mortal sin. Keep that in mind.
