They were granted this during the Year of Mercy by Pope Francis, who subsequently extended it.

No Kidding? i thought they were allowed to hear confessions?
That’s only one Sacrament. You still need permission for the other ones from the local bishop (unless, of course, the Pope does what he did for confession).

Yes, but Francis also allowed them to celebrate marriages in some circumstances. I’m not sure of the specifics…

I don’t think it was a flat out faculty like confessions though. I am certain they’re allowed to invite priests who do into their churches to conduct them, however.

What do you think the chances are of them doing that, though?

I’m so confused… This was reopened?
Apparently! Perhaps due to a bug?

@Maximilian75:
“A letter published by the Vatican on April 4 said the Pope will allow Catholic bishops to appoint priests to assist at SSPX marriages and formally receive the consent of the couples. The nuptial Mass then would be celebrated by the SSPX priest.
In addition, Pope Francis gave bishops the option of granting an SSPX priest the necessary faculties to officiate validly over the marriage rite ‘if there are no priests in the diocese’ available to do so.
Sounds about right.

I’d probably be too heavy handed and 1/2 of the Forum and its denizens would be deleted.

There’s no homily at a Low Mass. Solemn/High Mass is when the priest gives a homily.

Archbishop Lefebvre was dead for almost 18 years when the 2009 decree was issued. (Btw, he passed away on the Feast of the Annunciation 1991.)

This is a good introduction:

And if you want some fall/winter reading material:

I have both books. Forgive the cliche, but you literally can’t put them down.

His joie de vivre comes out in both books. The first one is very funny, witty - it’s almost as if you heard him in person. The second is more scholarly - extremely detailed and extensively footnoted.

Actually, that was Pope Paul VI who lifted the excommunications against the Orthodox but good idea.

This is from the Latin Mass Society (UK):

https://lms.org.uk/missals

The Orate fratres etc were changed and others cut out. When PJPII died, I followed the Mass on EWTN with an old Latin Missal that once belonged to a priest our family knew. I kept saying to myself: This was changed, that’s missing…Oh this is the same (Sursum corda)…that’s changed…

Traditional Catholic publications talk about how the NO is different from the TLM. Well, the funeral mass of PJPII was the clincher for me.

This thread is really odd. It just opened back up on it’s own? Is CAF haunted? 😮

The SSPX was born out of a schismatic act. Their founder is excommunicated (God rest his soul and may we pray for mercy for his disobedience)… SSPX is has no status in the Church and exercises no legitimate ministry in the Church…

All of the above is fact…official Church position. I’d avoid
