Who criticises Popes from hundreds of years ago? All we know is how the Church regards them in hindsigt. Either a legitimate Pope or non legitimate Popes. Our faith response to our current Pope should be default obedience knowing that we are promised protection from error in teaching on faith and morals. How can we teach the following generations faith in the Church if we tell them make up their own mind according to their own interpretation?

Doc who? Tim who?

They sound rather fringy.

I used to be on the political fringe - and was profoundly unhappy. I see the same state in much of the religious fringe.

For every discussion and topic that gets talked about on these forums, whether it’s about a James Martin or a Taylor Marshall or the Jesuits or the SSPX; these issues aren’t being created by the laity. We are not the ones who lead our church into division, scandal and corruption; we don’t have oversight of the USCCB or the various synods.

It’s painful to admit, but it’s the leaders of our Church that have allowed things to get this bad. With no unity among the clergy, how can we take seriously a bishop or other priest trying to criticize a group like Church Militant or Abp Vigano and yet have nothing critical to say of McCarrick or the pachamama scandal.

The reason these groups and individuals have sprung up, on both sides, is because our Church has allowed for such differing and contrary views to exist. If our hierarchy can disagree so vehemently over a topic, then why are they surprised that the laity battle over the same issues.

It’s sad that many clergy and laymen will build bridges to the lgbt community and support the acceptance of various religious views and allow artifacts to be used alongside our own worship services, but yet will shut the door on groups like the SSPX and other traditional organizations.

We need to to pray for Holy Mother Church and start building better relations amongst ourselves before we even think about fostering fellowship with other faiths.

Let’s get our own house in order first.

It must not be all that “painful to admit”, since people criticize Church leaders all the time. In 2020, it’s the Fifth Mark of the Church. Not only does the secular media encourage it, but there’s a whole network of websites that imply they are Catholic, but are not actual Catholic apostolates.

They compete with each other for donations. The more lurid, the more the outrage towards Church leaders, the more successful you are.

… I invite you to read some of the comments on that site and you would indeed find undeniable vileness.
I am sure that happened but again not all faithful traditional Catholics visit lifesite news, nor comment there. I, myself, have been there once and have never commented there.

I, also, believe as a culture our world has been trying to get away from stereotyping people, believing that all of one group of people acts a certain way. Unfortunately that seems to be working for everyone except Catholics, especially those who choose to continue to follow the Traditions, Scripture and Magesterium of our Church. Catholics still seem to get stereotyped and many times by their own fellow Catholics. When we attack one part of our Church, we attack the whole Church. We are one body.

As I said before there is sin and can be vileness in all of us. As our Lord said, he who is without sin, may cast the first stone.
Our faith response to our current Pope should be default obedience knowing that we are promised protection from error in teaching on faith and morals.
Yes, I agree, as Catholics we need to always remain under the Holy Pontiff. Our faith response is to God and our Church and our Pope when he is teaching ex-Cathedra. We do not need to follow every word the Pope says, when he is speaking opinions. Also, our faith response is to Holy Scripture and Holy Tradition also, tradition being that which our Church has handed down from one generation to another. We also need to be grateful and respectful to our all those Catholics who have gone before us and handed down the faith to us and do the same for the following generations and not believe that we are in anyway better than those who came before us.

That applies to each and everyone of us that post here at CAF. Catholic Answers is under their bishops guidance as an apostolate but notice there is a disclaimer at the bottom here of the forum, pointing out that Catholic Answers distances itself from each of us and our opinions. Everyone that creates a profile here, in a way creates a website.

In all charity, this also could be applied here to this forum. Yes, many times comments are flagged and removed but many do not get removed. These also are what you could call “click bait”. Look at how many threads are here attacking the President, the Pope, the Church and our faith. These bring people to Catholic Answers.

It is probably wise for all of us to consider that when commenting here. Would our bishops approve and give permission if we asked them if it was alright if we comment about the faith on Catholic Answers forum, then do some heavy praying.

God bless

📿

pray the rosary
