This article does contain an excellent and detailed explanation of Pope Paul VI’s understanding of the word “dialogue” much quoted after V2 and perhaps often with little understanding of the meaning that Pope Paul did give it…
Extract from article only:
…"…Still, the production company is worried, conceding that Paul VI was not a “popular personality” like the other two pontiffs. As a result, unlike the previous bio-epics, which were simply named “John XXIII” and “John Paul II,” this time around the producers plan to append an adjective to the pope’s name in the title – otherwise, they fret, the program might not seem “intriguing” enough for the mass market. The problem is that they have yet to settle on the right modifier to capture the essence of Pope Paul, as well as the interest of couch potatoes everywhere.,"…

Before anyone complains that the source is the National Catholic Reporter, I want to point out that the article is John Allen’s weekly column. He has a well-deserved reputation for perceptive, balanced writing.

I have to admit I didn’t have positive image of Paul VI prior to reading the article. I didn’t have strong feelings about him, just the impression that he was not dynamic, a bit weak. But after reading the article, I have to reassess that opinion and learn more about him.

Thank you, Dale. I am not at all schooled up re Catholic sources at times and whether they are reliable Catholic sources or not. I just really liked the article…including the great definition of “dialogue”. Some use it as another word for “communicating” whereas to me it has a specific meaning and certain guidelines subscribed to (as per article, plus a little more actually) to actually dialogue…and rather important in most situations when using a word in common to share a mutual understanding and the one defintion.

I must admit I found Pope Paul quite intimidating…and simply due to appearance:o - “imposing” to me!..but then I frequently have no idea whatsoever why The Lord does what He does, why He allows what He allows…The article gave me some insight into Pope Paul…and I rather thought after reading it “Thank you, Lord, you knew what you were doing after all”

Thank you again, I am really happy that I have not put a foot wrong again. I have been doing a lot of this lately!

Blessings and regards…Barb:)
