I personally would not recommend anything by the Hahn’s as they are generally pretty weak on practicality, I attended one of Kimberly Hahn’s Bible studies and found her very protestant and even a little negative regarding marriage.
I’ve definitely heard criticism of the Hahn’s before but this is a first. She is definitely Catholic. She may have more of an “evangelical” writing style as that is her background but she is solid on Catholic teaching and such.

Um…in regards to Kimberly Hahn…are we talking about even remotely recent work she’s done? I think this is an unfair criticism of her. The Bible study on Prov 31 I did with her last year was NOT “protestant” and not even remotely negative regarding marriage. I found it extremely practical as well. I was preparing for marriage and really couldn’t be bothered with anything that wasn’t going to apply to my life. She’s full of stories and practical advice. I was actually surprised by how well she applied the Bible to my life.

Furthermore, part of me was so terrified that marriage was going to be some trap of extreme subordination I was unwittingly binding myself to forever that the slightest negativity about married life made my heart race and want to run far, far away. Her Bible study put so many fears away for me. She spoke so beautifully on marriage that even wifely submission no longer scared me. I can’t recall anything negative. I left thinking marriage is awesome 👍 and 6 months into my marriage I still think so!

Chosen and Cherished just came out this past summer and is based on the Bible study I went to last year. I looked over it but didn’t read it because it was the same stuff…but, I’m positive that “protestant,” “negative,” and “weak in practicality” are not adjectives that can properly be assigned to this work.

Just bought Chosen and Cherished. Good stuff so far:thumbsup:

Hmmm…maybe it’s just that we came from such different perspectives. I attended a couple of Kimberly Hahn’s Bible studies while I was at Steubenville, and always came away from them feeling that she had missed the point, of course, this was a few years ago, so maybe it’s changed. I know threre were a lot of students who really liked the studies, but most of the girls I knew were very turned off by them.

I’m glad it was helpful to you, it certainly wasn’t to me, and so I can’t recommend it.

definately read THE GOOD NEWS ABOUT SEX & MARRIAGE by Christopher West.
and sign up for a Dave Ramsey Financial Peace University course!

the two major reasons for divorce are money (being number 1) and sex.

Congrats! 😃

and the catholic marriage prep classes… take the weekend retreat! WAY better than the weekly classes because you really focus without all the everyday life interuptions.
