Comments on changes to the Novus Ordo Mass are generally negative. However, the negativity generally comes from the resistance to change. You know learning curves are just not fun…
There is no valid theological reason for their grumbling. The changes after all are more of a return to Tradition than anything else.
The celebration of the Mass, I believe and please correct me if I’m wrong, was officially changed by Pope Paul VI in his Apostolic Constitution Missale Romanum in April of 1969.
I myself who have participated in the Novus Ordo thousands of times and have come to love it. I mean after all, Our Lord is -Truly- and -Substantially- present once the priest who stands in Persona Christi recites the words of consecration and thus changes ordinary bread and wine into the Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity of Christ.
However, what about The Traditional Latin Mass, The Extra Ordinary Form of the Roman Rite?
Is there anyone still celebrating the Mass in this way?
In New York City I know of several churches that do so such as, St. Agnes on Fulton Sheen Way, Church of Our Savior on Park Ave and The Church of The Holy Innocents in Herald Square. However, there are close to one hundred Roman Catholic Churches in Manhattan and most of them celebrate the Mass in the Novus Ordo form.
Thank you and God bless

- Do you think it is still necessary to celebrate the Traditional Latin Mass?
- Do you think it allows the faithful to enter even more deeply the beautiful mystery that is - The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass?
- Should it be brought back universally?
Thank you and God bless
