If I may, I would like to add that Colossians 1: 15 needs to be read in the terms of its context, verses 15 -20. These lines, in a poetic arrangement, were probably an early Christian hymn which praised Christ, true God, as mediator of creation and of redemption. To understand verse 15, one needs to understand that Paul considers Christ as the full image of the invisible God. Refer to Colossians 2:9 “For in Him [Christ] dwells the whole fullness of the Deity”I’m sorry, maybe I should be more clear,
Worship of God is
Therefore,
- external - bodily, physical.
- internal - uniting heart and mind to God
If,
Old Testament Worship have images of Christ (e.g. Paschal Lamb),
And
Christ is the image of the invisible God,(Col 1:15)
Then,
Why would God assume a special presence (fire type as in the flaming sword) in the form of a man?
Why weren’t the sin offerings of the OT sufficient?
The key is that Christ is the only full and complete image of God because He is true God, the Second Person of the Blessed Trinity.
