I would like to believe this but their voices are sadly lacking and few. Maybe more in free western countries but there was no condemnation in Muslim countries and in fact there are videos of people going out into the streets and celebrating that America was attacked.
Just as there is a certain video going about insulting one of Islam’s strongest beliefs. Does that mean that every Christian supports it? After the attacks in Benghazi, the people protested (risking their lives to do so) against the militia that attacked the US embassy. They drove them out, knowing that only the attention of the world media gave them the chance. They held signs rejecting the twisted form of Islam preached by the Salafist groups. I was living in a Muslim area on 9/11. There was a mosque just 100 yards from the house I lived in. On that evening, there were special prayers for the victims, and there were so many people there, the police had to close the road so that they could pray in the street. They were distraught at the thought that Muslims were responsible for the attacks. A week later, my Catholic church held a special service of rememberance. The local imam was one of the speakers, he was already in tears before the service even started and wept throughout. When he spoke, he told us that the vast majority of Muslims utterly reject the poisonous form of Islam that Al Queda and other groups preach. At times, it was difficult to make out what he was saying because he was sobbing. He left us with a quote from the Koran: “Whosoever kills a innocent person, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind.” (Al Maidah, Ch.5: v. 33).
A few weeks later, I was walking home when a car of (white) youths stopped beside me and used an aerosol and a lighter to make a little flamethrower. My sleeve caught fire and as I stood there in shock, I suddenly found several Muslim men around me, shouting and grabbing at me. It took me a couple of seconds to realise that they were frantically trying to slap out the flames with their bare hands. Once the flames were out, they carried me - still at a run - into the mosque. There, they got my arm under running water and then into iced water.
They went in and got two doctors they knew were at prayers to come and help me. I was carefully examined and monitored for the whole of prayers and then asked to come to the meal, as they wanted to be sure I was ok. I was carefully fed, taken under the wing of a very nice lady, who said “Your mother is not here, I must take her place, you are my daughter now” :bighanky: I was very touched. They took care of me and then a group walked me the hundred yards to my door.
After that, I was practically one of the family there. I was invited to weddings, melas (festivals) and birthdays. It was always lovely and I was never made to feel a stranger. The only time I was asked to wear their type of clothing or cover my head was for weddings and that was only because “Western clothes are too plain for a wedding”. She was right!
Muslims aren’t supportive of terrorists, any more than we Catholics are supportive of paedophile priests.
