The true reality of Islam.

I coould have quoted Mattew 7:1-5 about the standerd we use to judge others, not the one we use to judge ourselves, is the standerd God will use to judge us.:gopray:
and a few verses after that Jesus said you shall know them by their fruit. In other words, pointing out false beliefs and ideas and where that lead people is not a judgement in a sense of condemnation of someone. If Jesus is saying “you shall know them by their fruits” does mean we are to discern and know and understand if something is true and real and we badly need more of that today than ever. Pointing out the reality and history and teachings of Islam is not judgement but looking at its fruit and its fruit is not so good.

You see how this discussion has morphed from a critique of Islam [the OP statement] to one about judgment of Muslims? They are not the same.

i think if you ask certain groups of people you could hear the claim that democracy, Christianity and even Catholicism have been spread at the point of a gun or sword.

It’s all perspective, right or wrong…

Partly because the original post had some personal judgment in it.

PS- I’m retiring from this thread. I keep feeling like I am trying to inflame my own fellow catholics, but I think we all, (especially me!) need to broaden our perspective.

Many of the Muslims are pleased they have a radical side that wants all non believers dead.
Absolutely correct. A terrible think for them to think or believe, but does that put them on par with the people who are actually murdering innocent people?

OOPS- I forgot I had just retired…

Yes, especially when they condone murder of infidels, flying planes into bldgs, shooting 30 at Fort Hood.

As even liberal Bill Maher said , Islam is a dangerous religion.

Leaving aside impassioned rhetoric, it’s interesting to look at Hilaire Belloc’s theory that Islam is, in fact, a Christian heresy.

While the word “heresy” may sound like I’m trying to be inflammatory, I assure you that this is not my intent - or Mr. Belloc’s. He has obviously thought deeply about the issue, and this view deserves serious study.

One of the reasons why I subscribe to this view is its explanatory power - it explains why there are definite “points of light” within Islam (monotheism, almsgiving, prayer, a strong moral code), because these are “legacy code” from the Christian tradition. To the extent that it departs from this tradition (in rejecting the divinity of Jesus, in ascribing importance to Mohammed’s prophecies, in claiming that the Bible was corrupted), it also encompasses “points of darkness”, which in turn explains the horrendous deeds that some (SOME, not all) commit today in the name of their (heretical) religion.

I would like to believe this but their voices are sadly lacking and few. Maybe more in free western countries but there was no condemnation in Muslim countries and in fact there are videos of people going out into the streets and celebrating that America was attacked.
Just as there is a certain video going about insulting one of Islam’s strongest beliefs. Does that mean that every Christian supports it? After the attacks in Benghazi, the people protested (risking their lives to do so) against the militia that attacked the US embassy. They drove them out, knowing that only the attention of the world media gave them the chance. They held signs rejecting the twisted form of Islam preached by the Salafist groups. You can see a selection of them here: en.avaaz.org/755/not-in-our-name-libyans-reject-terror

I was living in a Muslim area on 9/11. There was a mosque just 100 yards from the house I lived in. On that evening, there were special prayers for the victims, and there were so many people there, the police had to close the road so that they could pray in the street. They were distraught at the thought that Muslims were responsible for the attacks. A week later, my Catholic church held a special service of rememberance. The local imam was one of the speakers, he was already in tears before the service even started and wept throughout. When he spoke, he told us that the vast majority of Muslims utterly reject the poisonous form of Islam that Al Queda and other groups preach. At times, it was difficult to make out what he was saying because he was sobbing. He left us with a quote from the Koran: “Whosoever kills a innocent person, it shall be as if he had killed all mankind.” (Al Maidah, Ch.5: v. 33).

A few weeks later, I was walking home when a car of (white) youths stopped beside me and used an aerosol and a lighter to make a little flamethrower. My sleeve caught fire and as I stood there in shock, I suddenly found several Muslim men around me, shouting and grabbing at me. It took me a couple of seconds to realise that they were frantically trying to slap out the flames with their bare hands. Once the flames were out, they carried me - still at a run - into the mosque. There, they got my arm under running water and then into iced water.

They went in and got two doctors they knew were at prayers to come and help me. I was carefully examined and monitored for the whole of prayers and then asked to come to the meal, as they wanted to be sure I was ok. I was carefully fed, taken under the wing of a very nice lady, who said “Your mother is not here, I must take her place, you are my daughter now” :bighanky: I was very touched. They took care of me and then a group walked me the hundred yards to my door.

After that, I was practically one of the family there. I was invited to weddings, melas (festivals) and birthdays. It was always lovely and I was never made to feel a stranger. The only time I was asked to wear their type of clothing or cover my head was for weddings and that was only because “Western clothes are too plain for a wedding”. She was right! 😛

Muslims aren’t supportive of terrorists, any more than we Catholics are supportive of paedophile priests.

“They”? You paint with too broad a brush.

They either want us all dead or they do not speak out against this insane violence. Otherwise Islam is a wonderful religion.
