This was in the latest issue of the Limbaugh Letter and I think it’s really eye opening…

At this writing, Sen. Dick “I’m sorry if I offended you” Durbin (D, IL) is still the number 2 Democrat in the Senate, still raising money for his sorry party. Durbin and DNC chair Howard “I hate Republicans” Dean were featured speakers at a “Paint the Nation Blue” fund raiser just days after Durbin’s outrageous insult to those in uniform at the US military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Fresh from his awash-in-tears non apology on the Senate floor (for comparing American soldiers to “Nazis, Soviets, in their gulags, or some mad regime - Pol Pot or others”), Durbin told Democrat donors, to tepid applause: “We have 150,000 of the bravest Americans who are literally risking their lives in Iraq and Afghanistan, and the Democrats stand proudly to support them.” Sen. Durbin did not mention the equally brave Americans literally risking their lives at Gitmo, nor did he or the rest of his party stand in proud support of them.

(And for the record, Hitler, Staline, and Pol Pot murdered some 20 million innocents. Deaths of terrorists held at Gitmo: zero. As Sen. Jim Talent [R, MO] put it: “If only the Nazis and the Soviets had been as merciful to the innocent as America is to the guilty.”)

Durbin’s “apology”, such as it was, did not sit well with the left. The Minneapolis Star Tribune scolded" "The Senator should stop apologizing and keep up the criticism of the hell hole America’s military has created at Guantanamo.

This is the same “Hell hole” in which, as Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld writes in USA Today, “America has gone to unprecedented lengths to respect our enemies’ religious sensibilities - including detailed regulations governing the handling of the Koran and broadcasting the five daily calls to prayer required by the Muslim faith over loudspeakers.” Thank you American taxpayer.

Note section 6-5 b, “Handling,” of the Joint Task Force Guantanamo Headquarters’ Detention Operations Group Standard Operating Procedures, released June 3 by the US Southern Command, which directs guards:

Clean gloves will be put on in full view of the detainees prior to handling. Two hands will be used at all times when handling the Koran in manner signaling respect and reverence. Care should be used so that the right hand is the primary one used to manipulate any part of the Koran due to the cultural association with the left hand…Ensure that the Koran is not placed in offensive areas such as the floor, near the toilet…Handle the Koran as if it were a fragile piece of delicate art.

And that’s not all. The 520-odd detainees from more than 40 countries are each provided with a specially designed lowered wash basin so they can wash their feet before prayers. They have access to religious books. They receive, also courtesy of the US taxpayer, continuous psychiatric and medical care - including any surgery needed. They are continuously monitored by the International Committee of the Red Cross.

Despite what you hear from the media, official US policy is to apply Geneva Convention standards to these clowns, even though terrorists don’t want Geneva protections. Unreported is the fact that every Gitmo detainee has annual hearings before a military tribunal. (A series of federal court cases have stalled any trials.) As ace columnist Michelle Malkin reveals, “The hearings, called ‘Combatant Status Review Tribunals,’ are held before a board of officers, and permit the detainees to contest the facts on which their classification as ‘enemy combatants’ is based.” We also allow them access to lawyers.

Based on these hearings, some 234 have been released - each receiving tax payer gifts of a new Koran and a new pair of blue jeans. (At least a dozen of these Gitmo alumni have, according to the Defense Department, taken up arms against us in Iraq - with deadly consequences. We release them, and they went on to kill American soldiers, Sen. Durbin)

Detainees can send four letter and two post cards a month. They are given chessboards and decks of cards. If cooperative, they can play basketball, football, and soccer. They are served three meals a day, all halal approved (conforming to Muslim dietary laws), totaling 2,700 calories. And thanks to Rep. Dunacn Hunter (R, CA), we know their menus. On Sunday, June 12, detainees dined on “orange glazed chicken, fresh fruit roupee, steamed peas and mushrooms, rice pilaf.” The night before they’d had lemon-baked fish. When they break their fast at Ramadan - a Holiday they observe with prayer beads and prayer oil we also issue them - we provide honey and dates. Which is why the average detainee gains 13 pounds during his stay in this “hellhole.”

American soldiers survive on military issue Meals-Ready-to Eat, but congress has decreed it “abuse” to give them to Gitmo detainees, at least one of whom is suspected of involvement in 9/11.

9/11, in fact, is the whole reason we’re running this $150 million prison (annual operating cost: $95 million), which opened in January of 2002, three months after the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan began on October 7, 2001. Gitmo is the answer to the question, as General Richard Myers, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs, put it on Fox News: “How do you handle people who…are picked up on the battle field, that if you release them or let them go back to their home countries they would run right around and try to slit our throats, our children’s throats?”

Secretary Rumsfeld asserts that “the purpose of detaining these enemy combatants is…to gain intelligence about their terrorist operations and to prevent them from attacking again. We have gained intelligence at Guantanamo that have stopped terror attacks and saved American lives.” End of argument.

Most of the prisoners at Guantanamo Bay are members of al Qaeda, the Taliban, and other terrorist groups. As Sen. Jon Kyl (R, AZ) writes in Human Events: “Those who remain in detention - a tiny fraction of the 10,000 enemy combatants we have picked up over the past few years - are terrorist trainers, bomb makers, extremist recruiters, and financers, bodyguards of Osama bin Laden, would-be suicide bombers…” They are, he says, “people who will kill Americans if given half a chance.” Or as Vice President Cheney correctly calls them: terrorists and facilitators of terror. As Cheney said in an interview on CNN: “If you let them out, they’ll go back to trying to kill Americans.”

He’s right. If freed, said one detainee recently, “I will arrange for the kidnapping and execution of US citizens living in Saudi Arabia. They will have their heads cut off.”

But we dare not question this gentleman or his cohorts too harshly, to find out exactly what he has planned or with whom. These are the dear souls Dick Durbin is worried about when he decries the interrogation methods described in the FBI e-mail: “On one occasion the temperature was so cold in the room, that the bare-footed detainee was shaking with cold…On another occasion, not only was the temperature so unbearably hot, but extremely loud rap music was being played in the room.” Oh the humanity.

To Dick Durbin, this is Nazi territory. No wonder Guantanamo has been nicknamed “Eggshell City” by interrogators, due to the unbelievable political constraints they’re under.

Durbin and other liberals are apt to swallow whole any story they hear that fits the template of an abusive military. But these are terrorists, and they have been programmed to lie. We know this from a training manual seized in Manchester, England, in 1998. They’re taught to lie about their treatment in detention. And they’re particularly trained to lie about how we treat the Koran.

And the media is happy to report such tales. The Washington Post quotes former detainee Abdallah Tabarak (that’s “former detainee,” meaning we let him go) who claimed that in Gitmo, “when we wanted to pray, they would burst into my cell with police dogs to terrorize me and prevent me from praying.”

Another former detainee named Deghayes told The (London) Independent that Guantanamo guards smeared his face with excrement, sodomized him, and stuck him in a room lined with glass cases full of poisonous snakes. That’s right, we built a “snake room” - just for him.

And how does The Independent know this? Because while sitting in his Guantanamo cell, Mr. Deghayes told his American attorney - who was there with a tape recorder - all about it. Deghayes’ lawyer, one Clive Stafford Smith, recorded 20 hours of this stuff. And the tape was cleared for public release by censors from our very own Department of Justice.

That’s how evil we are, folks. We give him 20 hours of access to a lawyer with a tape recorder and let the recording go public. Smith told The Independent that Deghayes “has been treated worse in Guantanamo than any other person I have come across. He is legally trained and tries to help other people there, so the Americans think he’s a trouble maker. Consequently he suffered for it.”

Legally trained and working the system. Why am I not surprised? Then you’ve got Agent France Presse credulously quoting a detainee who says guards “often disgrace the Koran by throwing it on the cell floor and frequently use profanity which many of the detainees find extremely offensive.” Profanity? Say it isn’t so.

So let’s talk about their reverence for the Koran. Months before the bogus May 9 Newsweek story ran alleging that Gitmo interrogators flushed the Koran down the toilet," the US Army itself investigated reports of Koran abuse at Guantanamo. Turns out that no fewer than 15 documented occasions, our deeply religious detainees themselves have trashed their own holy book.

According to the Joint Task Force-Guantanamo Commander’s Inquiry Team:

On 5 Jun 03, a guard observed two detainees accuse a third detainee of not being a man. In response, the detainee urinated on one of their Korans.

On 19 Jan 05, a detainee tore up his Koran and tried to flush it down the toilet.

On 23 Jan 05, a detainee ripped pages out of his Koran and threw them down the toilet. The detainee stated he did so because he wanted to be moved to another camp…

Undeterred by the Newsweek retraction debacle, Amnesty International - the “esteemed” human rights organization - on May 25 called Gitmo “the gulag of our time.” William Schultz, Amnesty’s USA Executive Director, called on foreign governments to arrest American officials in charge of Gitmo when they vacation in “Acapulco or the French Riveria,” the way the Brits nabbed the murderous Chilean military dictator Augusto Pinochet in 1998.

But Pavel Litvinow, a former political prisoner in the Soviet Union, pulled back the curtain on Amnesty’s little scam. As he wrote in “No American ‘Gulag’” in the June 18 Washington Post: “Several days ago I received a telephone call from an old friend who is a long time Amnesty International staffer. He asked me whether I, as a former Soviet ‘prisoner of conscience’ adopted by Amnesty, would support the statement by Amnesty’s executive director, Irene Khan, that the Guantanamo Bay prison in Cuba is the ‘gulag of our time.’ ‘Don’t you think there’s an enormous difference ?’ I asked him. ‘Sure,’ he said, ‘but after all, it attracts attention to the problem of Guantanamo detainees.’” In other words, the whole thing was an enormous liberal publicity stunt.

And it was a propaganda windfall for Al Jazeera. The pro-terrorist publications story, “Amnesty International says Guantanamo Bay is a gulag,” was piped with gusto throughout the Arab world.

Democrats knew all this. But they don’t care. Despite all the evidence to the contrary, House Democrats are now demanding a commission be formed to investigate “abuse” at Gitmo. Says House Leader Nancy Pelosi (D, CA): “We in Congress have a responsibility to make this issue once again too hot for the Republicans to handle.” Oh?

She went on, “The treatment of detainees is a taint on our country’s reputation, especially in the Muslim world, and there are many questions that must be answered. These questions are important because the safety of our country depends on our reputation and how we are viewed, especially in the Muslim world.”

Wrongo, Ms. Pelosi. The safety of our country depends on keeping Democrats away from the levers of power.

Yes it is Mr. Limbaugh’s opinion but it’s backed up with pleanty of facts.

I cant take anything serious from a drug addled extreme right winger who is putting out paraphenalia with “Club Gitmo” printed on them… the man disgusts me, but like the adage says…always know what your enemy is up to.

And NO… I aint a left winger. I am a moderate who realizes the Eagle needs TWO WINGS to fly right.
