That’s the one. (I enjoyed it so much as a youngster, I’m not sure I would want to reread it now for fear it might be so much dreck, as a lot of science fiction is to be honest. Don’t want to tarnish fond childhood memories.)

This is an interesting topic, but the thread has been seriously derailed. Maybe someone should start a new thread to speculate about cavemen’s having souls?

Now, back to our program.

Jinn are described in the Quran at different places. Iblees (or iblis) was from the Jinn (See verse 18:50). Jinn are like humans, all laws apply on them. They live, they eat, they die, they are accountable in the hereafter. Originally, all humans were Jinn, living in caves without any laws. They used to fight and kill each other. (Bloodshed). Iblees was the leader. He had some sense of the creator (God) of his own accord and used to worship The God.

But he was not appointed. Iblees was doing bad things thinking that God did not know it. He was the leader of his lot living non-civilised life in caves.

Now, more info about Jinn. This word is applied to people living in far away mountains. More strictly it is applied to the foreigners (non-local), to aliens, to those who are not sons of the soil. There is much description of Jinn in the Quran in the time of King Soloman. The king had many Jinn working under him, making forts and fountains. They were foriegners, from Sudan and other nearby countries. They claimed to be faithful servants.

One of the great Jinn was a member of the court of King Soloman. Most probably he was from Sudan. He was hefty person.

Thanks Maria for the invitation. The door is open for you to teach me anything from your bibleNT (gospels). I have to complain about the attitude of the christians because they put themselves on a different (higher) platform and the others on a false platform. I did not want anything special for Islam. I only wanted that the christians should believe that Quran is a revealed book, just like the Muslims believe that bibleOT and NT are revealed books.

But I see that you people are not fair. You have some difficulty, weakness in your theology. I do not know what you want to teach me. It is good that you have a plan in your mind and you may be having clear vision ahead, smooth sailing. I am not dishonest. I will appreciate any good thing from any one. Welcome. But I am sorry that you did not appreciate my point about christians not being at level with Muslims about many things. Christians want that Muslims should believe Jesus as son of God and as a God too. But christians will not believe that Muhammad was a good man.

What do you say? Is any debate necessary under those bad conditions??
I’m afraid you misunderstood me. I suggested - perhaps a bit playfully, but not dishonestly - that, if you would allow yourself to learn how to actually debate someone - and by that, I mean, actually listening to the other person’s viewpoint and considering what they have to say, rather than saying things like “you’re not fair” - we could have some lively debates around here. But you start off with saying how “you people are not fair” and insisting that we accept your prouncements, when you are not willing to accept ours. I am not interested in starting a “debate” with you where you just go round and round with the same “arguments” you always use on all the Christians on this forum because no one ever gets anywhere.

You can’t see that you do the same thing you accuse us of doing?

Indeed; once cavemen were mentioned, I unintentionally place it at the front of this discussion.

They may have been more like animals, but then are we not allowed as catholics to believe animals have a soul? I’m just not familiar with the theology on this.
Please forgive me if I seem a little too assertive. Anyway, for one thing, the mortal beings with souls were human in every way, not at all like any “other” animals. I believe that Adam and Eve were good-looking because they were the first people and the latter had been hand-chosen by God, emerging from the dust of the earth(whether literally or not; remember that we are “stardust” in a feasible way). Anything so made by God has to be beautiful in form(and angels, of course, are typically portrayed as being lovely, partly because of their innocence/goodness, as man possessed before his Fall). For an argument as to whether animals have souls, please read my comments at “Pets in Paradise”(a discussion which became more philosophical). Excuse me; I have leave at the moment.

**In March 2002, a school in Mecca caught on fire. To prevent going up in flames, 15 female students inside the building removed their burqas. As they tried to escape, the Muttawa (Saudi Arabia’s religious police) saw they were breaking Sharia Law by not wearing their burqas, and trapped them inside the burning school. Municipal police and firemen battled the Muttawa to free the imperiled girls, but no avail. The Muttawa held firm, and caused the girls to be BURNED TO DEATH. **
If this happened to those young girls that’s really horrific. Of course we could all start pointing to horrifying acts performed by everyone’s religion. The Catholics did this, the Protestants did that, the Baptists, the Lutheran’s…the list goes on.

I’ve seen it over and over where a thread is started to seemlingly provoke harsh responses.

I wish we could all sit at a table and have a conversation and end these rediculous wars (religious and non-religious). Could you imagine if we put as much effort in helping each other as we do with tearing each other down?

I like the story of Jamshyd, a Jinni who was to become a mortal(but as a king, I believe) because he boasted of his immortal.

Anyway, the Jinni are supposed to be demons whom had been enslaved by the Seal of Sulaiman. Naturally, they are common figures in Muslim folklore(please, no jokes involving Disney’s “Aladdin” or some cinematic portrayal of “Arabian Nights!”)

Quite so, but genies are not exactly angels(Oh my, I am thinking about Hans Christian Andersen’s "The Flying Truck! I am exhausted right now, and I also hate that Disney ruined “The Little Mermaid,” a beautiful story). From what I know, they are, indeed, considered to be demons(as a comparison, in Judaic legend, the demoness Lillith was Adam’s first wife and is definitely wicked).

All right. As a side-note, the heroine of “The Little Mermaid” was supposed to have been outstanding beautiful rather than merely pretty(and the setting was certainly not in the Caribbean at the time of Jane Austen’s characters), and is not ‘Ariel’ a masculine name(was not the Shakespearean spirit undoubtedly male)?

Well, he may be odious, but I certainly would not say that he is not fully human(or anything like that).
I was just trying to be a bit sarcastic…that’s all. Today it is the extremists in islam that get all the news. Very few muslims in a position of authority will counter him or terrorism. Some will…but they are few and far between.

I see.

I find it very very dangerous to preach such hate for a religion.

Islam Christianity and Judiasm all share the same roots…

I find it remarkable that holy men can openly share such hate towards a religion they no nothing about in all honesty!

Do not judge without real evidence on the religion , or you be judged yourself?

Every major religion has its bad bad history, dont get me started.

Love and Respect

Peace

Islam denies the Divinity of Christ. That’s all I need to know. The Angel Gabriel told the Virgin Mary that she would conceive of the Holy Spirit and bear the Christ. The second person the Holy Trinity. Islam claims that Gabriel then told mohammad that Christ was not the Son of the Most High. The Great I Am.

The second Gabriel was not an angel of God.
