The truth about NFP

My wife is experiencing something Angel Gabriel in post 54

If she has another pregnancy it could possibly kill her according to her ob/gyn. Her last pregnancy was extremely difficult for her.

We were not using NFP when she got pregnant. She is afraid of getting pregnant so she is thinking of some type of hormonal BC.

Neither she nor I are spring chickens yet we still seem to be sufficiently fertile.

What advice or counsel can you give her/us with regards to NFP or abstinence or hormonal BC?

In her heart she wants to do what is right but her fear reigns supreme for now.

I wasn’t trying to criticize the genesis of NFP development. I’m sorry of it came out that way.

I just wanted to point out Sanger had a head start by a number of years. Also, while NFP was getting more scientific, she was working with scientists to get the Pill developed.

It definitely didn’t from my perspective! I read your post as just a set of factual historical statements.

I just wanted to clarify my earlier post, as a re-read of it made me realize it could be misinterpreted that way.

Agreed. And God bless those researches who are already doing this work. I don’t know how well funded and supported they are, but if we had a fraction of the budget that large pharmaceutical companies put into developing new and expensive drugs, there would be a revolution in how family planning is done throughout the world.

Where we might be entering a more favourable age in terms of tolerability of NFP in secular circles is a rising trend of awareness of the need for long-term, post clinical trial epidemiological studies of prescription use. Patients are increasingly demanding minimally invasive options in health management, mindful of side effects. Openness to NFP, if it is highly effective, is growing in some health-conscious secular groups. Where NFP would do well would be if it partnered with large medical device companies.
