There is a clear double-standard going on here. Folks here put up some very hostile posts in painting me ignorant and knowing of nothing and such but that seems to be ok just as long as I do not respond with the spark that they have. I can clearly see what really goes on here.
Luke6:28-31:
28
bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you.
29
To the person who strikes you on one cheek, offer the other one as well, and from the person who takes your cloak, do not withhold even your tunic.
30
Give to everyone who asks of you, and from the one who takes what is yours do not demand it back.
31
Do to others as you would have them do to you.

Don’t allow anyone or any church tell you that you need to do good works to win your way to Heaven. It is a lie. Scripture screams that we are saved by our faith in Christ and that works are the results of our faith, not the saving mechanism. Jesus said to accept Heaven like a child accepts a gift. That doesn’t mean going to mass everyday and going to confession once a week is going to buy your ticket to Heaven because it won’t. You won’t find Jesus through the mazes of the Roman Catholic church. You will find him by reading and studying Scripture and praying to him and seeking him in all that you do. The church can’t save you, Mary can’t save you, only faith in jesus Christ can save you no matter how much of a sinner or how little of a sinner you are!
Thank you for your post. i appreciate your opinion. First off, Mary cannot give people everlasting life. the Church does not teach that she does. She is however, the mother of God and she is to be respected as such. Catholic’s the world over know for a fact that Mary cannot give everlasting life, only God can do that.

Faith alone cannot save you. Neither can, once saved always saved. One cannot keep on committing sin and expect to be saved. That is a cop out. We must confess our sins in order to be in a state of grace. God is not going to accept someone with serious stain of sin on their soul. This is called mortal sin. it is a deadly sin and ruins our relationship with God and Christ. Faith must accompany works. Faith without works is dead. so the once saved always saved policy does not jive.

Its a common misconception that Catholic’s do not study God’s word. We do everyday, and scriptures are also read at Mass. No one “wins their way to heaven” God decides who goes to heaven or not. We do not decide that, not you, not me, not man, only God decides who makes it and who doesn’t.

The Catholic Church is the One True Holy and Apostolic Church.
Given to us by Christ Himself. Its doctrines and faith are true and
timeless. All other churches that have come in the last 2000 years branched off from the Catholic Church. There were no other churches before the Catholic Church.

We have the truth because we know this by what Christ Himself said to Saint Peter in Matthew 16:18 (New International Version)

18 “And I tell you that you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades will not overcome it.”

The first pope was Peter. ever since then, there has been a pope. Its called Apostolic Succession.

no other church in history can make that claim and be truthful about it. none. only the Catholic Church can make that claim and it be 100% truthful. Our Church is 2000 years old and no other Christian church in history can make that claim. We came directly from Christ.

Hey, Branden. . . when you show me the nail marks in YOUR hands and feet, the slice in YOUR side and the cross on which YOU died, then I’ll believe everything you say.

And Sean (first poster upthread), great post! I’m saving it. 👍

What you have said here really proves nothing. I can claim to be exclusive no matter who comes down the pike. The CC has done just that. They did it at the time of the great schism because they claimed that they could proclaim the holy spirit proceeding from the father and the son although the sitting council disagreed. The CC did it anyway. You CAN be exclusive and you can be wrong.

Dear Branden,

Tell you what, I still respect your opinion even if i disagree with it:)
Iam quite sure your just as respectful of what we believe. I never tell others that they cannot state their opinion, or not to believe what they believe. Everyone has free choice and free will. This is what God gave us. I believe what the Church teaches to be true. However, if others do not, that is their right to do so:) I wont change my opinion and Iam not trying to change yours. I posted my post in answer to your original post, and I gave you a respectful reply. I do wish you a great day, and hope you are willing to learn more about what we believe instead of trying to discredit it. Keep and open mind as you learn.

May the grace of God shine upon you always.

TC

That is fair and I do respect it. Thank you

Hello Branden,

I have sat here listening to you tell us here how brain washed we are and how catholics do not know God.

I guess first of all I have to ask you a few questions and hope you have an answer for my questions:

How is it that you can read my heart?

How is it that you can presume what my relationship is with my Lord and Savior?

When you state that you were once Catholic and performed all the “rituals” did anyone ever tell you what it was you were doing?

Are you aware of the fact that everything the Catholic church does is purely scriptural? And if you say they are not than can you please name those that are not with proof.

Are you aware of the eighth commandment? If so, than why do continue to break it?

Your title states that We are saved by faith alone, can you show me this in the bible?

Have you ever heard the phrase you catch more bees with honey? Well, I find that your constant degrading of the Catholic faith and her people is rather bitter. My first instinct is to fight back. If your true intent is to show us poor Catholics the error of our ways. Than maybe you can try talking to us and not at us.

You have been asked a lot of questions maybe you should take this time and try to answer them with kindness. I have no doubt that you love my Lord and that He loves you. But I am pretty sure that He feels pretty sad when you walk up to His humble servant and bash him over the head with accusations that you are really all not that sure of. A true Christian needs to always keep in mind that we are all children of God. And He loves us all and like any parent He would be deeply hurt when one is being falsely accused.

Please answer my questions, and in the future please refrain from taking my Lords place in the judgement throne. You cannot possible understand my heart nor the love I have for my Lord.

God Bless you, Branden and I will be praying for you.🙂

Peter exercises this exact authority here:
Acts11:1-18:
1
Now the apostles and the brothers who were in Judea heard that the Gentiles too had accepted the word of God.
2
So when Peter went up to Jerusalem the circumcised believers confronted him,
3
saying, “You entered the house of uncircumcised people and ate with them.”
4
Peter began and explained it to them step by step, saying,
5
“I was at prayer in the city of Joppa when in a trance I had a vision, something resembling a large sheet coming down, lowered from the sky by its four corners, and it came to me.
6
Looking intently into it, I observed and saw the four-legged animals of the earth, the wild beasts, the reptiles, and the birds of the sky.
7
I also heard a voice say to me, ‘Get up, Peter. Slaughter and eat.’
8
But I said, ‘Certainly not, sir, because nothing profane or unclean has ever entered my mouth.’
9
But a second time a voice from heaven answered, ‘What God has made clean, you are not to call profane.’
10
This happened three times, and then everything was drawn up again into the sky.
11
Just then three men appeared at the house where we were, who had been sent to me from Caesarea.
12
The Spirit told me to accompany them without discriminating. These six brothers also went with me, and we entered the man’s house.
13
He related to us how he had seen (the) angel standing in his house, saying, ‘Send someone to Joppa and summon Simon, who is called Peter,
14
who will speak words to you by which you and all your household will be saved.’
15
As I began to speak, the holy Spirit fell upon them as it had upon us at the beginning,
16
and I remembered the word of the Lord, how he had said, ‘John baptized with water but you will be baptized with the holy Spirit.’
17
If then God gave them the same gift he gave to us when we came to believe in the Lord Jesus Christ, who was I to be able to hinder God?”
18
When they heard this, they stopped objecting and glorified God, saying, “God has then granted life-giving repentance to the Gentiles too.”
As the Pope is the successor to Peter’s authority, and that authority includes the proclamation of doctrine (as shown above), the Eastern bishops were in error when they rejected the proclamation of the filioque clause.

BrandenRush … after an opening post to a thread tike that I have to wonder why are you even here? 🤷 We Catholics know way to much to think you can sit & do nothing & still get to heaven. We have the fullness of Christian truth. Other Christians have only bits & pieces.

Oh please! It’s only error in the eyes of the CC. The CC wanted to have supreme authority in all decision making and if anyone disagrees, then they are in error. This is precisely what goes on still today. The CC did it to Luther and they have did it to the Evangelicals and now they are trying to do it to the Anglicans. Well, I personally don’t care what the CC says on anything because I bank my salvation on Jesus alone and not the obedience to the Catholic church. Amen

I am glad that you are so sure. I have some sharp advise for you, you shouldn’t be so sure. Read the Bible.

Catholics have a real problem with others possessing real sacrements in other churches, but I am here today because of them…
Yeah, we have a real problem with it since we accept most churches’ form of baptism…

Like everyone else has said here, you really need to do some researching to find out what Catholics truly do believe. That’s how I came to see the fullness of the true Church, maybe you will too. I’ll be praying for you…I think I say a rosary for you. :gopray2:

I am seriously cracking up over here :rotfl:

This has to be some sort of put-on. Sixtus, is that you? 😃

By who???
The canon of scripture was finally defined at the Synod of Hippo in 393, the issue might still be up for debate to this day had not the entire Church agreed both in belief and practice that it was so. That is, of course, until a group of disgruntled and rebellious folks began disputing it some 1000 years later.

Peace,
+N

Hey Branden

I will make this easy for you.

I will assume that by not responding to my question on how you knew that Eileen T did not know Jesus, that really you do not know whether or not Eileen T knows Jesus or not. Therefore you really had no basis for making the statement that you did.

Therefore I accept (on behalf of Eileen T and others) your apology (in absentia) for making the rash accusation that you made.🙂

If, as Our Lord said, the gates of hell shall not prevail against His Church, it follows that His Church must still exist. As every other denomination extant today was formed out of a break with the Catholic Church (or from a break with another sect which has already broken away from the Catholic Church), only the Catholic Church can validly claim to be the Church built by Christ upon Peter. From this, it follows that it is the right and duty of the Church to tell her children when they are in error.

I would dare say that I know more about the Catholic faith than you probably know now. I read the Catechism, attended mass every Sunday, on holy days of obligation and many days during the week. I attended many Eucharistic adorations and went to confession once a week and also said the rosary every single day. I’ll say this with all that I am. Jesus is not there. He is not present in all of the obedient acts of the church. He is present only in our faith in him. The teachings of the CC have distorted what is clearly written in scripture. You are on dangerous ground. Get out before its too late. I’ll never go back… ever.
Perhaps He wasn’t there for you, it wasn’t because he was excluded by the acts themselves, He can only be excluded by the person.

I’ll say this with all that I am, Jesus is there for me in all those acts of worship and obedience.

Peace,
+N
