Don’t allow anyone or any church tell you that you need to do good works to win your way to Heaven. It is a lie. Scripture screams that we are saved by our faith in Christ and that works are the results of our faith, not the saving mechanism. Jesus said to accept Heaven like a child accepts a gift. That doesn’t mean going to mass everyday and going to confession once a week is going to buy your ticket to Heaven because it won’t. You won’t find Jesus through the mazes of the Roman Catholic church. You will find him by reading and studying Scripture and praying to him and seeking him in all that you do. The church can’t save you, Mary can’t save you, only faith in jesus Christ can save you no matter how much of a sinner or how little of a sinner you are!
saved = act
works = act
faith = act
accept = act
reading = act
studying = act
praying = act
seeking = act
do = act
faith = act
save = act

Show me how you can get saved by faith alone? Everything you said here goes right back to works.

Your theology is defective.

It is always a sad point to hear someone say that because it only proves how much a person can be brainwashed. The canons were decided upon in the 4th century. No Roman Catholic church then. Sorry. Check your history. No Orthodox nor Anglicans either. Just the early Christian church. Jesus said I am the way the truth and the life and nobody enters unto the father except through me. Not the Catholic church, not Mary, not the rosary nor any combination therof. Only Jesus. He said it.
If thats the case, then how do you explain Matthew 16:18 and Apostolic succession?

And please don’t use that chick tract petros/small rock idiocy. That’s just a stupid false argument.

The more I read your posts, the more I realize the satanic false doctrine you are prophesing. You need to be exorcised. Satan has you in his grips.

James is not teaching that it is the works themselves that saves us but rather we “show” we are saved by our works. These works come from the heart of a saved person who is saved by faith in Christ.
Can someone be saved if they do not show works? For example, if they do not love?

Yes or no?

Even the King James version of the Bible teaches the necessity of good works. If you think you are saved by faith alone read your Bible.

James 2, 22-26: Seest thou how faith wrought with his works and by works was faith made perfect? … so faith with works is dead also.

1 Cor. 13, 1-3: Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels … and though I have all faith, so that I could remove mountains … and have not charity, it profiteth me nothing.

Matt. 7-21: Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

Mark 16-16: He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.

Thats absurd. Show me how you can be saved without acting, i.e. accepting (action) Jesus as your personal Savior.

I am truly amazed at how you Protestants twist the Bible to make it fit your needs. Did I say amazed? I meant aghast.

There is always an act tied to faith. Tell me how you would interpret Luke 11:1-13? Where is there Faith alone?

so what you are saying is that judas ,napoleon , stalin .hitler and robert mugabe are all saved beacause they believed in Jesus Christ,according to your way of thinking.
When Jesus said. "Not all who say Lord Lord will enter the kingdom.
I suggest you read and digest, chapter 25 in the gospel of Matthew
Blessings

You must believe that Christ died for your sins and rose again. See I Corinthians 15:1-4. Where in scripture does it say that believing is a “work”?

What does this passage have to do with salvation i.e. being saved?

How does Napoleon equate with Judas, Stalin and Hilter?!

That depends. Good works are an indicator of salvation. If they are not seeking to please Christ that may be due to their either don’t understand what it means to “in Christ” or they may have made a profession that was not real. Only God ultimately knows.

But you still forget the Judgment passages, where we see that God’s basis for Judgment are works. Not just faith, but works. So we are saved by what we do, coupled with faith. It is not only by faith alone. Try finding any passage about Judgment without works mentioned.
Could an unbeliever who rejects Christ and yet does “good works” be saved and go to heaven?

Not so. Paul in Ephesians 2:8-9 makes it clear that it is only by faith we are saved when he writes;
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.

you write that the catholic church was not there before the 4th. century,
well Ignatious of antioch wrote to the smymeans in 110 a.d."whereever Jesus Christ is , there is the Catholic Church.
Polycarp martyred in 155 a.d.was bishop of the Catholic Church in smyrrna

Not so. Paul in Ephesians 2:8-9 makes it clear that it is only by faith we are saved when he writes;
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
You inject the word “only” into the text where it doesn’t appear. Ephesians 2:8 says, “faith,” not “only by faith” as you infer. The phrase “faith alone” appears only once in Scripture and that is to reject it: in James 2:24, “You see that a man is justified by works and not by faith alone.”

Notice also that Ephesiains 2:8 says we are saved through faith, not by faith.

Scripture says we are saved through faith, but Scripture never says we are saved by faith alone. That is a man-made doctrine.

You must believe that Christ died for your sins and rose again. See I Corinthians 15:1-4. Where in scripture does it say that believing is a “work”?

What does this passage have to do with salvation i.e. being saved?
I don’t know what language you are using. But last time I checked, believing was a verb. A verb is a word that expresses action.

No matter how you slice it, you have to act before you can be saved.

That verse shows how Jesus requires us to act so as to be saved. “Ask and you shall receive” Jesus says. If you “ask” for His salvation, you are acting.

But I was also interested in your interpretation of that passage given your self-serving interpretation of James. I was wondering how you would wipe away the calls to action (works) required of us by Jesus.

Faith without works is dead, totally dead.

Not so. Paul in Ephesians 2:8-9 makes it clear that it is only by faith we are saved when he writes;
8 For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;
9 not as a result of works, so that no one may boast.
If its so clear, then expalin Luke 11:1-13. Unless of course you are saying that Paul’s teachings supercede Jesus’ teachings.

For them, BD & justasking4, as long as you remain a catholic, regardless whether your faith produces good fruits, you are not save. For them, a catholic’s work was, is, will never be a product of true faith. One has to come out of the catholic faith to have a saving faith…Just my observation from reading post by n-c re FAITH.:rolleyes:

What makes a faith a “living faith” - Action :confused:

What makes it a “dead faith”? - NON-Action:(

Who reads what’s in your heart? - GOD!

Where is the problem!? Let God be the judge!

Now,SHOW YOUR FAITH!!!👍

Oh! Di ba, and dali!!!😃 (See, Simple!!!)

Could an unbeliever who rejects Christ and yet does “good works” be saved and go to heaven?
No. When one rejects Christ they do not go to heaven.

However, faith and works go hand in hand. It is not either/or, it is both. No informed Catholic ever says faith is not necessary. Both faith and works are obedient responses to God’s Grace. It is God’s Grace that saves us. If we are to say that we are saved by anything “alone”, we ought to say “We are saved by God’s Grace alone”. He is the One Who calls us to believe in Jesus in the first place; faith is not even possible without God first initiating it with His Grace. To say that we are saved by “faith alone” takes God’s role completely out of the equation. Good works are also a response to God’s Grace. Without good works, your belief is simply intellectual; it is dead faith.

Whatever happened to the commandments Jesus gave us… to love God and to love our neighbor? Love is a verb, it is an action. What Catholics call “good works” are works of love. They can be as simple as professing your faith, praying for others, feeding the poor, instructing the ignorant, etc. If faith alone is all it takes to be saved, I wonder why Scripture tells us that love is greater than faith?

This site says it succinctly: The 2,000 year-old Catholic position on salvation is that we are saved by Jesus Christ and Him alone (cf. Acts 15:11; Eph. 2:5). But by the grace of Christ, we achieve the salvation God desires for us through perseverance in both faith and works. There were too many verses supporting the necessity of both faith and works for me to count.
