Grace Seeker,So, how about the prayer that we offer turning our lives over to Jesus. Well, that is a prayer of faith, faith that we can trust in Jesus to do what he has promised and save us, not a work of faith. The moment that idea comes to our mind that we need to offer up such a prayer, I believe God declares us justified in his sight.
This is the most current statement of yours which is non-Scriptural. Well, if Scripture is YOUR basis for what the economy of salvation is with God.
You base salvation/justification on that “moment [the] idea comes to our mind” to pray that Jesus does what he promised us he would do and “save us.”
A second statement of yours: “This grace is something we appropriate I am told in scripture through faith,” is without basis of any kind in Scripture.
“Grace is first and foremost the gift of the Spirit who justifies and sanctifies us.” (CCC 2003)
But here is a clearer explanation of what I was referring to (I apologize for the little joke about the Catholic canon and the Protestant version of the Bible: the 7 books):
“The Paschal mystery has two aspects: by his death, Christ liberates us from sin; by his Resurrection, he opens for us the way to a new life. This new life is above all justification that reinstates us in God’s grace, ‘so that as Christ was raised from the dead by the glory of the Father, we too might walk in newness of life.’ [Romans 6:4 and cf. 4:25]” (CCC 654).
