Right, I got a few names wrong, so it seems. (Evidence please!)

Genesis 19 - Lot is spelt - L-o-t. Not the other way. If a something so basic as someone’s name is wrong, that creates a poor impression. One that is borne out by other parts of the post. 😦

Regardless, what about all the other identical traits to the Lord Jesus Christ?

The fact the Bible story is not original should set alarm bells ringing.

Perhaps you could deal with the points already raised. If similarities to one figure can be found only by trawling details about three others, & by ignoring the differences between the various figures - Jesus did not behead his mother, unlike Horus, who beheaded his mother Isis, as one example - then the case you’re trying to make fails to be convincing.

By your method, it ceases to be likely that there have been:
  • two George Bushes
  • both Presidents
  • both of the USA
  • both waging war against Iraq
  • both winning those wars
  • both defeated by Democrats
  • both Democrats have been called “the first black President”
  • both George Bushes had allies in British Prime Ministers
  • that’s a decent number of similarities. It would be much simpler to assume that one had been split into two at some stage. Yet the above details are all solidly factual, & recent as well.
If all that is possible - maybe Jesus, who is significantly unlike any of the three characters you’ve stitched together to make one, is a real person, similarities to others or no similarities.

What is it that you believe Maher?

God bless
That the Bible is a fairytale.

Man made from dust, woman from man’s rib, living inside of a fish, blah blah…

It’s all ludicrous.

Can you answer this question please?

Did God create the Solar System and all the planets?

Thank you.

Look, is there any evidence of the Bible being credible?

No, so by that admission, Jack and The Beanstalk really happened.

I have no evidence though, sorry, but that’s ok, because it’s still as credible as the Bible. 🙂

Perhaps I can make my own religious book, but if I do, I’ll make sure my God is not a murderous, jealous, racist, thug.

So your beliefs are whatever Christianity isn’t? Interesting. Where would you be if there were no Christianity? ISTM you are as dependent on it as we are.

So Maher, these acts of violence that you talk about, would you consider them evil? And if so; is evil subjective or objective?

God bless

How can you believe in some parts of the Bible and not all? Surely the inaccuracies and false assertions found in the Bible cast doubt over the entire book?

You can’t just pick out bits and believe what you want, whilst disregarding the rest.

Not at all - why should they ? The Bible is by no means perfect - what book is ? - but how is that a reason to judge different sorts of book in it as though they were all the same ? That would be as silly as to that because apples are roundish in shape, the same must be true of bananas, apricots, & other all fruit. Ecclesiastes, Isaiah, Romans & Revelation are very different kinds of book, so it would be ridiculous to expect them to be identical. 😦 Leviticus does not have the same purpose or importance as the gospel of John. 1 Samuel is a theological history - not a sermon, like Hebrews.

God was a murderous thug. He killed people. He insists that people should be killed for pressing a button on the Sabbath day.

Why are you not answering my question? Surely you know the answer? You do not even know about your God.

Can you answer it then?

Did God create the solar system and all the planets?

How come you are the only one who gets to ask questions?

Haven’t you asked enough? Can we now ask some of you?

So again Maher, these acts of violence that you talk about, would you consider them evil? And if so; is evil subjective or objective?

Erm, men that lived to 900+ years of age? Jonah living in a large fish for three days? A woman being made from a man’s rib? A talking snake? Talking to burning bushes? I can go on and on.

And there are posters here who are able to answer all of those points, & at great length too.

Now, as you believe in the Bible, it is not my job to provide evidence for these crazy stories. You cannot prove a negative, just for example, you cannot prove there is not a green monster lurking outside my window every night that only I can see. Of course, it’s not true, but you cannot prove that.
## They are not crazy. They only seem that way if one insists on reading them as though they had been written yesterday.
Do you agree with any of my points? What about the last quotation of my original post? What about the exclusion of very important parts of Jesus’s life from the gospels?

The gospels are not biographies - they are not Lives of Jesus in four volumes.

What about the fact that the Bible is not original?

Why is that so important ?

Evil is evil. God created these people, yet he chose to murder them.

If I kill someone who has killed many people does that make me right? No, it does not.

God was a murderer.

We’ll take turns about. I’ve answered your question. Now you can answer my question, then I’ll answer your question, and so on…

So, did God create the solar system and all the planets?

So if these acts are evil, and you have already explained to me that evil is objective (evil is evil), where did you get this concept of an objective evil? What is the objective good that you are comparing these evil acts to which has allowed you to objectively label them as evil?

God bless

Religion was not an excuse. The Unionists and Republicans still have an underlying hostility to one another, even today.

The two biggest football clubs in Scotland, Celtic and Rangers are both divided by religion. One is a Catholic based club, whilst the other is Protestant. There is a load of sectarian trouble at these matches and even violence. Celtic sign footballers from a certain part of Ireland because they are Republican whilst Rangers do the opposite.

Without religion, this would not have happened.

The hostility referred to, in no way shows that religion is the cause of the troubles, rather than an excuse for them. If those concerned were Christians in any sense worth discussing, they would not be Marxists or thugs or bullies. The NT nowhere instructs Christians to terrorise & betray & plot against & torture one another - but these have been among the activities of the terrorists on both sides. Why should such people be regarded as examples of a way of life they treat with contempt ?

As for football in Scotland, what of it ? If religion were not the excuse for violence & partisanship, something else would be. Christianity has more than enough to answer for without being expected to bear the blame for every last act of bigotry, every last example of divisiveness in society. It is oversimplifying to blame all evil on religion, Christian or not.

BTW - you completely ignored my points about the Pope, & about Marxism. If you can’t see that the materialism of Marxism is fundamentally anti-Christian, there’s nothing I can do to help you see it.

I’m sorry, but it aint working like that.

I’ll answer your question if you answer mine. I’ve already answered one your question.

Your turn now, then I’ll answer the above question.

Religion divides people. If religion was used as an excuse, then what was the real reason?

The fact is, The Bible incites violence, murder, homophobia, racism, bigotry, so it is of no surprise that it has not changed, even today.

You have the crazy people from Westborogh Baptist Church who have a vendetta against homosexuality. They also have signs that degrade and insult Princess Diana. Why?

It’s what The Bible has incited.

Should we really be surprised.

Religion divides people.

So be it.

I know you are trying to be nice by saying God Bless to me, but please, I do not want the blessing of a homophobic, murderous, vicious, racist, bigot.

Many thanks.

Why are you so afraid to answer my question?

Can anyone answer it? No?

Did God create the solar system and all the planets?

Why so hostile? Or is this the tone that “reason” takes?

Why are you so adverse to talk about what you believe? You have no problem discussing what we believe.

God bless

I’m not hostile. Your Bible is very hostile though. If you were affiliated with such an organisation, you’d be disgusted and leave. What’s so different about the Bible?

As for me, I do not believe in a celestial God.

P.S. Can anyone tell me if God made the Solar System and all the planets?

I am genuinely interested.

But where did you get your concept of evil? What are you basing this off of? What is this objective standard?

Are you saying it is questionable whether killing someone is wrong?

Are homophobia, racism, bigotry and misogyny all good things?

Ok, please can someone answer me. DID GOD MAKE THE SOLAR SYSTEM AND ALL THE PLANETS?

Thanks very much. I really don’t understand why people are swerving this question.

The Bible is backed up by zero evidence and is built upon conspicuous inaccuracies, impossibilities, contradictions, bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, racism, and violence.

The Bible is conforming to certainty. It claims to know beyond what is knowledgeable. All backed up with nothing. All backed up with nothing apart from words in a book. The evidence is overwhelmingly at odds with the words of the Bible.

How can you continue to believe something without any evidence at all of its validity or genuineness?

Why would I want to put my morality in the Bible? Why?
Maher, if you don’t have faith, no one on this earth is going to explain it to you adequately.

If you don’t have faith, you can’t possibly interpret the Bible the way it was meant. I didn’t have faith for 33 years. I came back to the Church after a few incidents that I don’t want to get into right now, but during the time of these incidents, I started reading the Bible again, which previously I didn’t understand. For some reason, faith sparked in me this time. I didn’t feel it, but when I read the New Testament, so many passages I took in the wrong context before had jumped out at me like their meaning was hidden from me previsouly. “Why the heck didn’t I see that before!!!” I used to say all the time. Had I read them like a mere novel or textbook, I would have still taken them at face value like you do. But for some reason, faith was allowed to take over at certain times. This has continued to this day. Passages I previously hadn’t understood continue to “jump out at me from the pages”.

Actually I do know why this all happened, but for me to tell you would sound foolish. And Christ in the Gospels that his followers’ deeds would sound foolish to the men of this earth. He meant the unfaithful. The ones who needed proof for everything and didn’t understand God. Only He can give you the grace to read the Bible correctly and in the proper light of faith. Besides, the Bible is a spiritual book, and thus needs to be read in light of that too. It will enable you to tell which stories need to be interpreted differently as to spiritual matters. Since spiritual things probably don’t concern you, then you’ll never understand why.

I would suggest that sometime, just ask God in your head to let you understand. That’s really not that hard is it? No one would know you did it. Do it as an experiment and see what happens next time you decide to read the Bible. But I suggest you read the New Testament first. You’re better off with this because the OT is easier to understand in lieu of the NT. And mean it when you say it. If you do it flippantly, it probably won’t amount to anything.

Do I still have problems understanding things in the OT? Absolutely, but there are resources I can go to that help in syphoning off the meaningless garble to me. But without faith, those resources won’t help one iota.
