My apologies, I perhaps sounded more exasperated than I intended. Perhaps if Scotland gets its independence (which may be quite soon, although I’ll admit to being slightly biased in favour!) it won’t be a problem for much longer. Cardinal O’Brien recently noted that if Scotland has an independent Catholic hierarchy (which it has had since 1878), it is difficult to argue against independence in a fuller sense - although I should stress that Catholic opinion is far from unanimous one way or the other.With all due respect, many people in many countries ignore the distinction.
Although “Regno Unito” is the official term Italy uses to denote your country, newspapers and average Italians in general will frequently exchange UK/GB/England as if there were no difference. From what I’ve noticed, it’s the same in French.
I know it’s annoying, and it’s a justified annoyance, but have some patience, too.
