aroused…else, SIN. The sexual organs for reserved for the married life…therefore, all catholic unmarried shouldn’t get sexually aroused at all. (period)

Is this true? Is this the Church’s teaching??🤷

Thanks for the feedback everyone!

It is not sinful for anyone to be sexually aroused if they have not willed themself to be (by dwelling on impure thoughts for instance.) Lust is disordered sexual pleasure that is willed and it is of grave matter even if a married person lusts after their spouse. When someone is lusted after, they are viewed as an object of sexual pleasure instead of a person.

The unmarried catholic has no business allowing himself or herself to be sexually aroused…else, SIN. Is this what the Church teaches? 🤷

True or False?

false, because if that were the case there would be no out of wedlock catholic births and I know PLENTY .

I don’t think arousal itself is wrong. Why would anyone ever get married if there wasn’t a sexual component to the attraction?

Sin is a matter of the will, so I think there is a willful component to sinful sexual desire. The question is: what does someone want to do? Get to know someone with the thought that there is a possibility it could lead to marriage? I don’t think that’s sinful, even if there is a sexual attraction. Is there is a desire to commit fornication? That’s sinful, even if there is no particular sexual attraction.

I think the question is always: what would you do if there were no consequences to worry about, and no one would ever find out what you did?

yes,it seems that the CC teaching is that singles do everything possible to avoid arousal and minimize it when it occurs.

True or False?
Not necessarily. It matters what the person does with the arousal. For men and women religious it is an occasion for them to practice chastity & self-mastery.

For those called to marriage yet not yet married it is again an opportunity for chastity. The arousal itself is merely a part of the human condition, it in itself is not a sin.

Are you saying this state of things is good and right and that the Church teaches that we should be having sex and babies out of wedlock?

Pilgrim,

Agreed, sexual arousal is indeed one of the functions of the human body. But reserved for men and women who have a spouse? Further, what are the “means” for a unmarried person to reach the “end” arousal state? Willfully Fantasizing? Willfully Wishful thinking? Willfully using all the senses? pure or unpure thoughts?

The unmarried catholic has no business allowing himself or herself to be sexually aroused by any means…else SIN…failed to master thyself. Is this what CCC says?

tullian,

Yes, I seem to get that from the CC too. If a man willfully gets an erection, excluding “morning wood”, then he failed to control his thoughts, failed to self-mastery…therefore, SIN. I would imagine any man who gets an erection, achieved it by allowing certain THOUGHTS to enter his mind.

Same goes for women, but obviously, we don’t call it an erection.😛

Yes for them to delibately seek to get aroused or consent to the pleasure etc etc…yes that is sinful (gravely so).

A sin has to be intentional.

Chibi,

Ok another edit:

The unmarried catholic has no business intentionally allowing himself or herself to be sexually aroused…else, SIN. Umarried catholic men cannot have a erection, exclude morning wood, else SIN. Unmarried catholic women cannot be in the mood…else SIN. Is this what the Church teaches?

The Catholic teaching is that if someone willfully CAUSES themself to be aroused in a disordered way than this is of grave matter. If a person does this with full knowledge and complete consent than it’s a mortal sin. As to someone allowing themself to feel sexual pleasure they didn’t cause themself, this is of grave matter if they are BASKING in the pleasure. If they are allowing it for another reason, such as they don’t think they can make it stop, or because it’s giving them energy than it’s not a sin.

No – your correction addressed this.

No – erections can be involuntary.

Correct.
Umarried catholic men cannot have a erection, exclude morning wood, else SIN.
Incorrect – involuntary erections can occur other times as well.
Unmarried catholic women cannot be in the mood…else SIN. Is this what the Church teaches?
Incorrect if “being in the mood” is involuntary.

Book,

Where in the CCC?

Thanks for the feedback.
2351 Lust is disordered desire for or inordinate enjoyment of sexual pleasure. Sexual pleasure is morally disordered when sought for itself, isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes.

scborromeo.org/ccc/p3s2c2a6.htm#II

Remember though that the CCC is not a dictionary or textbook of moral theology…

ewtn.com/expert/answers/dating.htm from a writer at EWTN …it will be of great help!

(One note though on this reading…I would note that when they say “as soon as he begins to enjoy…” under “pure intent”… it would mean before knowing consent…)

Thanks Book,

“isolated from its procreative and unitive purposes” . Unmarried catholic people have no business voluntarily procreating and uniting…this is only for married couples.

Unmarried catholic men have no business voluntarily causing themselves to get erections, either caused by their own doing or allowing someone else.

Unmarried catholic women have no business voluntarily causing themselves to get in the mood, either caused by their own doing or allowing someone else.
