*Pope Benedict has not changed the Church’s teachings, or even intimated that they might be subject to change. The Holy Father has not called for a new debate on the morality of contraception. He has not suggested that condom use might sometimes be morally justifiable.

Yet today millions of people around the world believe that the Pontiff has changed Church teaching, has opened the question of contraception for debate, and has justified condom use in some circumstances. How did that happen?

After reading this article I feel much better about the condom fiasco.

Indeed. Although I have mixed thoughts on subject.

On the one hand, its frustrating that the Vatican consistently makes public relations “gaffs”. On the other hand, its refreshing, here in the land of soundbites and pundits, that the Vatican doesn’t feel the need to sanititize everything it says and does.

The church is confident in its revealed truth, and doesn’t stoop to the level of popular media. If anything, we should be calling on the media to do better, not the Pope and crew. That my take on this frustrating blunder…

I think it is simple: Condoms are still banned. The Pope was just saying that when a grave sinner starts to think of others, that is a good thing.

The headlines of the media articles is the reason people are confused.

The official teaching of the Catholic Church has not changed regarding condoms. Thank goodness we do not rely on the fallible media for interpretation of Church doctrine.

If anything I have said is against the Catholic Church, let it be anathema.
