Indeed, if Jonah had in fact said “no” and firmly meant it, then he would never have eventually gone to Nineveh. But since he did eventually go to Nineveh, God asked him to go there. God knew he would change his mind. He would never have asked Jonah to go to Nineveh if He already knew that his “no” would be permanent. That would have been tantamount to a mistake on God’s part, for he would have asked the wrong person. But God cannot be God if He is imperfect. In his omniscience God knew that Jonah would say “yes” and so He asked him to go to Nineveh. It was divinely imperative that he does go there. Likewise, God knew that Mary would choose to say yes, and so the angel Gabriel greeted her with his message. It was imperative that God approach a woman specifically created to say “yes”, for her “No” would have meant no Saviour in the world. :nope:Of course not Ginger2. God knew exactly what Johah would choose to do and what would happen to him. By definition, it would have been impossible for God to pick the wrong person for any task. It’s that whole omniscient, omnipotent thing.![]()
