Is a person condemned if he rejects that Mary was assumed into heaven, queen of heaven, and all other aspects of the marian doctrines?
No. Not necessarily.
A person is CONDEMNED for rejecting the Light.
The gospel of John says that “this is the verdict,
that Light has come into the world” and men rejected
the light because their deeds are evil. People who practice
evil hate the light and do not come to the light.
So it depends on
how well and thoroughly these doctrines have been explained to them as well as thorough examination of the reasons for these doctrines and how well they fit the scriptural and traditional data.
A non-Catholic, even our most vehement antiMarian posters here, do not necessarily hate the Light for Pete’s sake.
What it is, is that they distrust the teaching authority of the Catholic Church. I was the same way for over 30 years.
It never even occured to me for DECADES that the Catholic Faith might even be worth a look, let alone my assent.
Today I am a Catholic, but for most of my life I never imagined that I would be one !! I would have laughed to scorn anybody who told me that I would one day be a Catholic. I didn’t hate the Light itself, I hated what I thought was a False Religion (( all of Trinitarian Christianity in general and Catholicism especially )).
There are millions and millions of people who love, worship, and adore Jesus Christ who at this very moment do not believe the Catholic Marian doctrines of the IC and the Assumption, and try sincerely to show that these doctrines are unscriptural. And they sincerely believe that they are correct. I do not believe that these people are condemned.
Now, if a person has been exposed to a full theological explication of these dogmas and their development,
and even THAT has not been done in these threads,
and comes to KNOW in his or her soul that these doctrines ARE OF GOD and THEN rejects them to “save face” or “win an argument,” then that is very close to sinning against the Light on purpose. Sinning against the Light is not done out of ignorance or misunderstanding. Some of the Pharisees who accused Jesus of being possessed by the Devil were men who had a thorough knowledge of the Old Testament scriptures, and more than that, for more than two years had followed him around, witnessing him perform miracle after miracle after miracle and hearing over and over again his sublime, wonderful spiritual teaching. Some of these men were acting out of envy and malice by attacking Jesus in the presence of such stupendous miracles. They wanted to KILL him for performing a miracle as an act of Mercy on the Sabbath. What fools they were!!! They KNEW that a human being had no power to do such a thing a make whole a withered hand and that only GOD’s power could accomplish it, and they still wanted to kill Jesus for doing it. THAT is malice.
I do not believe that the protestants here, even though they are
“de facto” resisting God in these particular matters, are doing so ON PURPOSE. They are acting on the basis of their sincere belief that only direct statements in Scripture are to be trusted, not Church authority. If the scriptures directly stated,
in these words, “Mary was conceived without original sin,” I have no doubt that Ginger and apophasis would accept the teaching immediately.
I used to be the same way. It was only after years of deep scripture study and meditation and prayer that the Lord revealed to me the actual Truth of the Catholic doctrines of the Real Presence of Jesus in the Eucharist, the Immaculate Conception, and the Assumption of Mary.
Give them time and pray for them.
You’d be surprised at how many people God will reveal these
things to (the correct interpretation of the scriptural data).
