Maybe a collection of clips will be put on-line.
 
Oh, Iā€™m sure the high points will be available somewhere. Maybe Rome Reports on YouTube or EWTN. The BBC will be showing things on the news later, too.

Itā€™s fascinating watching. There were thousands and thousands of people lining the street to greet him as he passed in the popemobile. šŸ™‚ Theyā€™ve given him a plaid tartan thing to wear on his shoulders. Lots of bagpipes!! šŸ™‚

Kind of sad that the security is so extensive as to prevent him getting close to people.
Police every few meters, helicopter above, and I think I counted 8 bodyguards jogging alongside.
 
I watched him and the Queen early this morning on EWTN, they were in Scotland at an abbey below the Edinburgh Castle. šŸ‘
 
Just to let you know "the plaid tartan thing"is a scarf made from a bolt of material with the tartan designed "patternā€™ made especially to commemorate the Pope.s visit .colours white and blue are Scotlandā€™s national colours and the green is for the moss that grows on the stones where St Ninian preached , the colour yellow for the Vatican .very few official tartans are granted outside of Scotland . If you don.t have a clan background name ,then for special people the society will grant permission for one to be made .this one is a limited edition as is The canadian Airforce T,he Canadian Maple Leaf Tartan and other honourary ones around the world .It is just not ā€œa plaid tartan thingā€
 
I was on the street earlier to greet him šŸ™‚

It was great. No protesters, good atmosphere. People were excited. I was really nervous the last few days because the media have gone crazy over this visit and I was seriously expecting punters to shout abusive things as he passed along. But none of that. One of the police officers told us that we have to cheer loudly if there are any troublemakers around so to drown their noise. šŸ˜ƒ
 
Barbkw, I tried to watch EWTN but the audio was choppy (and annoying) so I switched to the papalvisit. I would have liked to hear the EWTN commentary.

Did they let all the schools out and was it easy for people to take off work? The aerial shots were fantastic. What a beautiful city.
 
I believe only the clergy and dignitaries closest to the Pope receive a scarf.but all the MPs 129 of them will receive a tie in recognition of their support for the visit :)cheers

EWTN is clear now so Iā€™m watching that, and they just said that he is going to do the Eucharistic prayers in Latin.

Does anyone know the name of that beautiful hymn that was just sung at the Offertory?

Iā€™ve never heard it before, and would love to hear it again if any of our Scottish and English (or American?) members happen to know it.

I donā€™t know about schools. I guess all Catholic schools had a day off so the kids could come and greet him.
There were many tourists from other parts of the country and abroad.

The city really is beautiful, Iā€™m so lucky to live there. (been in Scotland for 8 years now).
 
Wow! The gospel was chanted in English. The mass was chanted in Latin. I wish every mass would be celebrated like that. It was very beautiful.
 
Pope Benedictā€™s homily was excellent. I liked what he said to the young people at the end:
I urge you to lead lives worthy of our Lord (cf. Eph 4:1) and of yourselves. There are many temptations placed before you every day - drugs, money, sex, pornography, alcohol - which the world tells you will bring you happiness, yet these things are destructive and divisive. There is only one thing which lasts: the love of Jesus Christ personally for each one of you. Search for him, know him and love him, and he will set you free from slavery to the glittering but superficial existence frequently proposed by todayā€™s society. Put aside what is worthless and learn of your own dignity as children of God. In todayā€™s Gospel, Jesus asks us to pray for vocations: I pray that many of you will know and love Jesus Christ

It is a day I shall never forget. The Holy father in my home country. I was a small child when this last happened.
I was in the crowds of hundreds of thousands greeting him, I diddnt get to actually see him, but I know that he was there and that is enough.šŸ‘

In our nations oldest church he spoke out against the cancer of todays society, Secularism, with no fear or ā€œPolitical Correctnessā€ marginalising his words.

Todays Agressive Atheists are exactly the same as the Nazis and the Holy Father has today exposed them to the world. In 1939 the Nazis had already been opposed by the Church. The Church was foremost in the worlds fight against them and the war would not have been won if if wasnt for its stand against fascism. Too few people know of the hundreds the Church saved in its battle against the Atheists, sheltering them to freedom. How Pope Pius XII excommunicated the Nazi Leaders. It was heartwarming to hear him speak out today against this new wave of murderers and egomaniacs.

I am so proud that Britain welcomed him with open arms, defying the medias attempts to slander him. May he visit again next year!
 
I just listened to his speech in full - what a powerful mind and brain is at work here. My only criticism is it can be a little difficult at times to catch clearly what the pope is saying. Having said that though, my hearing isnt what it used to be either!
