The Bible should always be treated with respect, but it’s still paper and ink. The spoken words of Scripture fade immediately after being spoken. The Eucharist is literally Christ’s Body, Blood, Soul and Divinity, so there is literally nothing more sacred.

I’ll go with the first alternative. At Mass, the Book of the Gospels is kissed out of reverence for its contents - & that is before the homily ​

I also think it’s a very good idea never to put any other book on top of a Bible (I can’t remember where I read that first.) But what do you think ?

I can’t remember where I read that first, but I totally agree and have tried to avoid doing that for a long time.

Never heard that, but I have one Bible atop another. I keep the Douay Confraternity Bible atop the Ronald Knox New Testament.

Very well, Gottle. I have never read about this, but I always do this-if I put Holy Bible together with my other books, I always make sure that my Holy Bible on top of other books. and I have many Bible, I put one beside my computer, one on my table. one beside my pillow, I can read before sleep, and everyday I all can sleep calmly .-And sometime I found when I woke up I still hold my Bible in my arms.

I do believe that Holy Bible is Words from God, Truth, Wisdom, instruction of life.
“All wisdom is from the LORD, and with him it remains for ever.”
I love to reading HOLY BIBLE, listen to the Words, wished to gain learning and are disposed to live according to the law.

So what is St. John meaning when he says that Jesus is the word of God?

The Logos or Word, was a very fashionable concept in Greek philosophy at the time of John. But in a word (oops) John would say God the Father is the Creator, but creation required His Word “Let there be…” The Only Begotten Son is that Word. He is the external expression or manifestation if you will, of the Will of God, or God the Father’s Word. It was helpful in ancient times to illustrate what we now call “one in being” while at the same time separating the Persons of the Triune God. There is more to it of course, but I am simplifying.

This is something I read recently from the Second Helvetic Confession. (Protestant)

THE PREACHING OF THE WORD OF GOD IS THE WORD OF GOD. Wherefore when this Word of God is now preached in the church by preachers lawfully called, we believe that the very Word of God is proclaimed, and received by the faithful; and that neither any other Word of God is to be invented nor is to be expected from heaven: and that now the Word itself which is preached is to be regarded, not the minister that preaches; for even if he be evil and a sinner, nevertheless the Word of God remains still true and good.

I tried to find out a Catholic viewpoint on this. Anyone got any thoughts?
