I agree the world is upside down. Here she is saying, she is biblically correct while she objectifies her own body, being a step up from a common prostitute in one of the most horrible contests in America. Yet no one here, has a problem with her doing this here. 🤷

Miss California in the Miss USA pagent has been condemned and ostracized because she dared to say that she is for traditional marriage between a man and a woman. I think we have truly entered the Twilight Zone. I am now convinced without a doubt that we have completely lost our moral compass in the world. This is what a world without God looks like. Makes me just want to hide away in the Church next to the Tabernacle, the only place to find sanity. 😊

The judges and Miss USA organisation made the correct decision to protect their reputation. They can’t be perceived to be promoting bigoty and intolerance.

Isn’t it bigoted and intolerant to ask this contestant this particular question, and allowing only one “correct” answer?

And bigotry and intolerance is Christianity. At least to their audience. That girl should have known who that audience is and had nothing to do with them.

Who had maneuvered Cornwallis’s army onto Yorktown peninsula? Let’s see…That would be Nathanael Greene and his rag-tag American (not French) army.

And Barbara Tuchman explains in “The First Salute” that there was no song “The World Turned Upside Down” at the time of the surrender.

Nice try, though.
My husband and I are both British/American Revolutionary War Reenactors as well as musicians. When we’re in VA for battle reenactments, we do the British soldiers and campfollowers.

While Nathaniel Greene was a brilliant general (there is no question there), without the French we would not have won the Battle of Yorktown. Without the French navy and their seige guns (we did not have seige guns), Cornwallis would have been able to sail out of Yorktown and go on to fight another day. Without the French money we would have not been able to achieve what we did to become a nation. Let’s give the French their due. Yes, the Americans were brave and tough people who helped with the Yorktown battle, but it would have meant little had the French not been there with their naval ships and seige guns.

Every year in May, Valley Forge in PA will celebrate French Alliance Day. Dignitaries from France will come for the honour. The Second PA reenactment group will come to celebrate this event. Although it is not a large event and mostly remembered by historians and people interested in history, it is something that should be remembered by more lay people. We certainly would not have become a nation, or at least a nation so soon, had the French not agreed to help us.

In regards to “The World Turned Upside Down”, the melody originated during the 17th century and there was at least two different versions of “The World Turned Upside Down” during the Revolutionary War. I do not know if the melody was actually played at Yorktown, but it certainly was an actual piece of music long before the Rev. War. Those musicians who specialize in early music would attest to it.

For the actual thread, it does sometimes feel like the world today is turned upside down. Whenever I get depressed over it, I remind myself that throughout history there have been periods where people of each era also felt the same way. I have to remember that everything comes in cycles and that people do find their way through it all.

Interestingly, though, it is sad that Catholics take such staunch stands again homosexual marriage, but do not express the same outrage at fornication and adultery, which are as bad or worse. Catholic parents overlook their children fornicating with the opposite sex, but would lose their minds if the fornicating was the same sex. Intercourse is reserved for marriage between one man and one woman, according to Catholic teachings…NO EXCEPTIONS.
I think this is a little misplaced. You, me, Protestants, atheists, you name it – anybody can stand up and say cheating on your spouse, or heck, even cheating on your “significant other” is wrong. This is an everyday thing, it is not controversial, and there is broad agreement here across the lines. A Miss USA who said as much would not generate scandal.

We could also stand up and say, “Sexual relations outside of welock are wrong.” We do not get so much broad agreement here, but we can and do say it and urge our kids along this path and nobody’s surprised or really presumes to interfere with our teaching or our right to say it. A Miss USA who said as much would not generate scandal.

But this woman said she believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman. She did so in the most inoffensive way, to boot, by saying that if you feel otherwise, fine, but that’s her personal belief. This is verboten so say, and got her rebuked and called filthy, insulting names by the gay activist judge.

You cannot deny support for gay marriage in many social circles in America today without facing castigation or even ostracization. Among our betters, the “elite” of academia, of mainstream media and Hollywood, in corporate America, and even in most corridors in Washington these days, it is dangerous thing for you say, a risky thing to do. It is verboten.

Let’s look just a little deeper here. Young women are brought up in a pageant atmosphere from an early age and taught to flaunt their admittedly attactive, near-naked, bodies to be named Miss or Mrs. something or other. Let’s face it, the Miss America pageant is a sex show no matter how you put it. (Look at the picture shown by Fox News.) The complete outfit worn by Prejean could be made from less than a yard of material.

In addition to the body show, the women are asked vacuous questions to see how they respond. Since they have been trained for the exercise, they need to know their audience and respond accordingly. Ms. Prejean’s opinion that marriage should between a man and a woman is widely held but she simply expressed it in the wrong forum. I don’t see the reaction by Lewis to demonstrate anything other than what Prejean could reasonably expect.

As a matter of full disclosure, I find pageants repulsive.

Got time for a little lectio divina?
But Jesus turning to them said, “Daughters of Jerusalem, do not weep for me, but weep for yourselves and for your children. For behold, the days are coming when they will say, Blessed are the barren, and the wombs that never bore, and the breasts that never gave suck!' Then they will begin to say to the mountains, Fall on us’; and to the hills, `Cover us.’ For if they do this when the wood is green, what will happen when it is dry?”
The world musta seemed upside down then too.

Nice try, though.
Multiple results from a quick Google search all confirm that the song appeared in 1643.
Yorktown was 1781.
But then I already new that. Nice try though.

And those weren’t French siege guns, French ships at the battle of the Chesapeak, French coin that paid Washington’s army in that particular campaign ? ooo kkkk.

Exactly…

Not just Google searches, ask any Rev War Reenactor (like my husband and myself) and especially ask any Rev War musician or any musician who is interested in early music and who specializes in this stuff, and they’ll tell us the same thing.

The problem is that the liberals not only control the media, they control the courts and the courts don’t have to answer to the public. Proposition 8 in California was necessary because the courts said the heck with what the people want. It’s going to be our way. The courts can still invalidate Prop 8 although they will have to find another reason to do it.

Gary
could you explain Prop 8?

sorry but i kinda hate TV these days… :whacky:

The scary thing is that this moral apostasy is so widely-accepted by the public,
to where people who advocate what is normal and godly are demonized as pariahs.
The Spirit of AntiChrist is raging throughout the United States and most of the Western World these days. I believe we are living in the great and Final Apostasy.

More of us need to be following her example and speaking up for a Natural Law view of the scourge of homosexuality; publicly. If we do not, our freedom to speak will be taken away.
AMEN! lets lead by example!! and pray!
