According to the 1616 decree, if the Pope believes the sun moves and that a moving sun is compatable with the Bible and should be read as such then YES he is. Now go ask him if he believes the sun moves and that a moving sun is compatable with the Bible and should be read as such.
Hold on, I’m confused. Did you mean “earth” moves? Geocentrism holds that the sun does move.

What about evolution? Is acceptance of evolution a heresy?

So you agree with that article? A bit different that what you were claiming, isn’t it?

Not as I read Buffalo piece

He hopes that freshly recovered fossils can help to explain why tens of thousands of animals died simultaneously in episodes repeated many times over about a million years

He wants to find out how animals all died at the same time over millions of years. Get it? An evolutionary contradiction, no?

Of course you are right Orogeny, I should have said if the Pope believes the sun is fixed and a fixed sun is compatible with the Scriptures. Sorry, but this is like fighting in a ring with guys coming at me from every corner. Occassionally I will throw a wild swing and miss.

Evolutionism was never defined and declared as a heresy per se. But evolutionism can lead to heresies if applied to certain dogmas such as Original Sin.

Bet they haven’t counted them all yet. there are other mass graves where the estimate there are millions all bunched together. Google in mass dinosaur graves and I’m sure you will find another source. I’ll not be looking through all 13,000 of them for you.
I did. Looks like the largest dinosaur grave in Europe holds as many as…drum roll please…100 Plateosaurs!!!

Looks like you have a long way to go to get to the “millions” of dinosaurs in a mass grave.

Jurassic treasure trove lost by Victorians found by Phil Wilby, fossil sleuth

…Phil Wilby, of the British Geological Survey, has now rediscovered the site and led the first dig there in more than 150 years. He hopes that freshly recovered fossils can help to explain why tens of thousands of animals died simultaneously in episodes repeated many times over about a million years
You know, buffalo, I almost always read the threads you post. This is one time I didn’t and I wish I did.

That article is not about dinosaur fossils, it is about invertebrate fossils. There are plenty of places where there are millions of those. That is to be expected given the nature of the animals and the environments they live in.

I asked (and am still waiting for) a source that describes “millions” of dinosaurs in a mass grave.

I’ll look up my sources ann see if I can get a ;millions’ one. But not now.

No problem. It happens to all of us.

Has the Church definitively taught that the creation account in Genesis is literal history? If so, how can evolution not be in error?

I’ll give you a hint. You won’t find one. Think about it. We are talking about large, terrestrial animals.

One thing you can look for, though, is any dinosaur fossil bed that includes both Coelophysis (or some other Triassic dinosaur) and T. Rex (or any other late Cretaceous dinosaur) in the same layer.

The experiments were valid experiments. His conclusions are what are flawed. Why do you say that? The source I gave you is a fundamentalist YEC site that accepts the flood story as literal history.Good. Berthault is not a trustworthy source. You are better served leaving him out of your arguments.

Orogeny, I told StA on another thread I was once into anti-evolution literature. Some years ago however I met a very learned man, one of the most intelligent I ever met. He refused to debate evolutionism, saying that a theory that can get a blob of jelly into a living creature with limbs, organs, digestive systems, eyesight, brain function etc is not worth one word out of his mouth. He said when they can reproduce LIFE out of inanimate matter (which PBXVI gave credence to recently) then he will take it from there. He said there is no such thing as evolution until they find a way to explain evolutionary life. After that I gave all my books away and really lost interest in the subject. Its application to Scripture however, is different. It is my duty as a Catholic to oppose error. That is why I waste my time talking to you guys. But the reward is in the trying, not the winning. If one other out there reading this stuff (God help them) becomes wary of evolutionism as a theology destroyer, that will be a bonus.

How to read the account of the fall
390 The account of the fall in Genesis 3 uses figurative language, but affirms a primeval event, a deed that took place at the beginning of the history of man.264 Revelation gives us the certainty of faith that the whole of human history is marked by the original fault freely committed by our first parents.265
Are we to interpret “the beginning of the history of man” in light of the evolutionary timescale, disregarding the timelines implied by the Biblical genealogies?

If so, are the other early links in the genealogies historical or mythological figures? If mythological, why does Luke’s genealogy trace Christ’s ancestry back to mythological characters?

He said there is no such thing as evolution until they find a way to explain evolutionary life.
What exactly does that mean? Is there no such thing as gravity until we find a way to explain what gravity is?

Many of the Church’s dogmas and Catholic truths originated from a literal reading of Genesis. The Apostoles, Fathers and Councils for 1900 years all accepted a literal Genesis. In justice then this interpretation should have been preserved. It was never found necessary to make a literal reading itself a dogma, for that would have led to confusion given that there are parts of Genesis are not literal.

That means that unless evolutionists can come up with evidence for a natural evolution of life - then there cannot be an evolutionary continuation. It is a simple logic, but for evolutionists who treat theories as truths, perhaps difficult. It is like working out how martians live underground without any evidence for them, a complete waste of time.

Tim/QUOTE

You know something Orogeny, heliocentricists think Newton proved what gravity is, each particle attracts other particles etc. But you are right, obviously a rebutter of Newton, yes?

Actually the literal reading of Genesis began to unravel well before 1900, with the eighteenth-century discovery of deep geological time by Hutton, Cuvier, Buffon, Lyell, and numerous others.

Yes, you are correct, I was refering to the big one, the evolution of man. Indeed this unraveling began even earlier, in 1741 when they started reading the G passages as H passages. In other words, the Church was/is never able to read the Scriptures correctly because who knows what ‘science’ might ‘discover’ next. This is a fact now, repeated in Leo XIII’s Prov… and Pius XII’s Human…
Yet, the Church still claims to be the infallible interpreter of Scripture, yes?

The Council of Trent

April 8, 1546:

‘Furthermore, in order to curb imprudent clever persons, the synod decrees that no one who relies on his own judgement in matters of faith and morals, which pertain to the building up of Christian doctrine, and that no one who distorts the Sacred Scripture according to his own opinions, shall dare to interpret the said Sacred Scripture contrary to that sense which is held by holy Mother Church, whose duty it is to judge regarding the true sense and interpretation of the holy Scriptures, or even contrary to the unanimous consent of the Fathers, even though interpretations of this kind were never intended to be brought to light. Let those who shall oppose this be reported by their ordinaries and be punished with the penalties prescribed by law.’ — (Denzinger - 786)

All this then is for the bin, isn’t it.

Again StA, I cannot let you away with what I, thousands of others, including many scientists hold to be untrue, Hutton etc did not discover deep geological time, they interpretated the strata that was then being uncovered by the industriasl revolution in a billions of year fashion. At no time did all geologists etc agree on their interpretation. It seems here is an area that will remain with two interpretations, one biblical, one secular and freemasonic.

There is plenty of evidence for evolution so the statement is meaningless.
