Mr. Heibel,

What could you tell me about this Scripture, Psalm 13, Verse 1, clause 4:

“There is no God”

-ACEGC

Robert your missing the point I was making. The point I was making is that there are people I know. People who love God with all of their hearts, and who try to serve him, spend time with him every day. And they are wrong in certain things, their theology is a bit messed up.

Don’t get me wrong, I hold bishops and teachers to the teachings of the Church. (And Scripture which is what are teachings are based on.) But, I also hold myself to the teachings of the Church and any voices I may possible hear. Does God only speak to you, or does He also speak to others. I fear your version of Christianity leads to Jesus-and me. With a person not willing to listen to any correction, any authority other than what they think Jesus is saying to them. Who cares if what Jesus is saying to them, contradicts what others think Jesus is saying to them.

Don’t get me wrong, I think Jesus does want to have a personal relationship with Catholics, and I think that perhaps Jesus would like to instruct the individual Catholic some more, and have them have Him instruct them a bit. I think its a good thing to want to grow in our understanding from the Lord…

But I also don’t think In his word Jesus ever meant for us to go at it alone. He wanted Christians to be one and in agreement. The New Testament exhorts us to sound doctrine, and assorts us to obey our leaders because they keep watch over you. There needs to be a balance between a personal relationship with Christ and a community understanding with leaders led by the Lord.

I also want to ask you, where has Jesus told you that the Catholic Church is wrong in her doctrines. Because the Catholic church has very strong teachings on holiness. Do their people abuse it yes, but its techinically one of the strictist churches when it comes to holiness we have a whole sacrament based on it. They also have a strong ascetic tendancy, and teaching on concern for the poor. Where exactly is the Catholic Church wrong, or perhaps could be Jesus showing you that the Catholic church is right. I’m talking about the Catholic Church’s official teachings.

Robert Heibel:
Amen! I believe that is why the Holy Sprit has me tell people: “No matter who tells them anything about God, be it a priest or a Bishop or anyone, they are to ask Jesus if it is right or wrong.” If every Christian who has a personal relationship with Jesus would do this then when someone gets up and tells them something about God and they ask Jesus if it is right or wrong and He tells them it wasn’t right, that someone would soon be put on the right path or ignored.
Robert
Over 30,000 Christians have believed this, and each one of thos founded a denomination. They disagree, they conflict they contradict.
Does “binding and loosing,” have any meaning for you? Jesus gave this charism only to Peter first, then to the other Apostles. They and their successors are the Catholic Church.
None of the rest of us have that gift from Christ. Neither you nor I can bind and loose (teach infallibly on faith and morals) on our own. That’s why our Lord left us the Church.
I don’t know if this’ll do any good, but it’s a try, and pray for you.

Just because you think some thirty thousand people have heard Jesus wrong you are not going to let Him talk to you. Open up your heart and let Jesus talk to you.

Robert Heibel:
Pax, Show me where is says< in Scripture, that Eucharist needs to be consecrated at a Mass by a priest? In fact that is why I pointed out (Acts 2:46) After worshiping God in the temple and then they went to their individual homes to have communion. They didn’t need any priest.

(Acts 2:46) “They went as a body to the Temple every day but met in their houses for the breaking of bread; they shared their food gladly and generously they praised God.”
Robert
Please go back and read post # 116. I gave you the basics and a summary of what you need. I also pointed out to you that Acts 2:46 doesn’t address the issue at all. This verse merely points out that the early Jewish Christians initially continued to go to the synagogue. They did not celebrate the Eucharist through the breaking of the bread at the synagogue. Since there were no Christian churches built at that time they went to their homes.

Once again, this verse you cited does not in anyway address the issue of who consecrated the bread and wine. That is not the intention of the verse, and you cannot use it to justify your opinion or your practice.

Again, take my original challenge and answer the question. Refute post # 116 if you can, or at least address it. I am not going to let you off the hook here. It is simply too important.

Pax, When the people went to their homes they had communion. No one needs to consecrate the bread and wine, which is done by Jesus. He is our priest and there is no need for a priesthood any more Jesus made us a priestly people. Don’t you see all Spirit filled Christians are priest.

I say this in charity, but I must be blunt. None of us is refusing to listen to Jesus. That is exactly what we do all the time. Our prayer life is all about that communication. Our hearts are open to the Lord. The fact that we disagree with you on certain things doesn’t mean that we do not listen to Jesus. Most of us have never heard the “audible” voice of God with our physical ears. That does not mean that we do not listen to the Lord.

I think the Lord led you to these forums so that you could get the truth from some highly-energized orthodox Catholics so that you would be led home to the Eucharist.

Sincerity you have, but sincerity does not automatically mean that you know or understand the truth. Many people have the same conviction you have, but they differ in their views. The Holy Spirit does not divide us yet so many claim that what they believe is from the Holy Spirit. This cannot be. Jesus prays for unity in John Chapter 17. You can’t have unity without the truth. Jesus is the truth and He gave us his word in scripture and his word says a great deal about his church. You apparently do not accept that part of the Lord’s word or you simply do not know his church.

So far you have made vague remarks and generalizations about the church without making a connected and cogent presentation about your views. Those small things that you did reveal have been refuted. Again, the example of “call no man father” comes to mind. Please try answering directly all that we say to you. The Lord is telling you something through us. He wants you back in his Church. He wants you going to confession, attending mass, and receiving his precious body and blood in the Eucharist. How can you not want that?

Scripture says that we are a priestly people. Scripture also says that we have priests(presbyters) and bishops. History tells us the details of the mass all the way back to the time of the apostles. History details the priestly function of the ordained ministry which is reserved to them and not the Christian body at large.

If there is no ordained ministerial priesthood then why does scripture speak of bishops, priests, and deacons. And please read my post #116 and address its contents directly.

You are stretching Acts 2:46 to fit what you want to believe. The verse simply does not say what you think it does.

Pax, Think about it, can you find any where in Scripture where it says a Spirit filled Christian needs to be consecrated a priest, so he then can consecrate bread and wine so it can become the body and blood of Jesus? The early Christians were having Communion in their homes way before the church reverted to the ways of the Old Testament by setting up an unnecessary priest hood.

How did you get “I’m not going to let Jesus talk to me” out of “we don’t have the power of binding and loosing that Peter had”?

Amen Robert, we all share in the priesthood. Pax was talking about the ministerial priesthood though, which is something that not everyone is called to.

Prove it from history. Your last statement is an utter fiction.

This advice has been given before, but in order to understand the early church you really must read the writings of the early Christians, those who lived as Christians within only a few generations of the apostles. Read about how THEY understood scripture and the teachings of the apostles, read about what Jesus told THEM, and see if your beliefs line up with them.

Keep in mind, these men had followers of the apostles and sometimes even the apostles themselves right there to clear up any misunderstandings they may have had. They were not 2000 years removed from the time, culture and teachings as you and I are. I know you sincerely believe that the bible is all you need to read, but if you don’t know how the apostles taught their followers to understand scripture then you run the risk of misinterpretation. I think that may be what has happened here.

In Christ,
Nancy 🙂

Go back and read my posts #116 and #117 and refute them if you can.

I already gave you a reasoned explanation from scripture in post #116. I then challenged you to prove from scripture that your position is the correct one concerning everyone’s ability to consecrate the Eucharist. You have not done this. Your one attempt was made in using Acts 2:46 which simply doesn’t make your case at all.

The burden is now on you and not on me. Try thinking and giving a prayerful response from scripture, and the history of Christian practice.

Robert the early christians had communion in their homes yes. But some of the earliest documents have the church fathers telling them, they can’t have communion without a bishop!

Don’t you think it is significant that the Holy Spirit didn’t see those documents as important enough to be included in the Word of God (Bible)?

Bob, the Holy Spirit is not a historian. All history is not recorded in the Bible. The fact that these are not scripture does not detract from the truth of them. Indeed, all truth leads to God’s truth.

(1 Peter 2:9-10) “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a consecrated nation, a people set apart to sing the praises of God who called you out of the darkness into his wonderful light. Once you were not a people at all and now you are the People of God; once you were outside the mercy and now you have been given mercy.”

If you will read all of (Hebrews 10) it should help you understand.
