No wonder the BBC’s news is so slanted:

There are eleven times more ‘liberals’ at the BBC than 'conservatives’

%between% One of the great things about Facebook is that you can find the nichest of niche groups of like-minded people. It has an advertising package to match. You can, for example, upload an ad banner that will appear 10,000 times to female twenty-somethings who live in York and enjoy listening to jazz. This kind of micro-targeting has got to be the next stage of the Party’s online advertising campaign. The advertising package has other uses…
BBC employees went Facebook mad earlier this year with 10,580 now having profiles on the social networking site. Many of them chose to specify their political views as either liberal, moderate or conservative (there isn’t a socialist option available to the chagrin of many). An advanced search reveals that more than 11 times the number of BBC employees on Facebook list themselves as liberal than conservative:
BBC - 10,580
BBC liberals - 1,340
BBC moderates - 340
BBC conservatives - 120

I saw another figure that 89% of people in the media voted for Gore in 2000.

The media (and acacemia) are slanted to the left (with exceptions being talk radio and fox news).

Using Facebook to try to prove a statistical point is not creditable and reaching for straws. It just says the number of BBC employees on Facebook, not the entire organization.

The well acknowledged fact that Fox News is right wing propaganda?
By whose acknowledgment? If you are willing to make charges, please be prepared to back them up. Do you mean right wing in news? Do you mean right wing in the panel shows? I think if you will investigate, you will find that they have a number of known liberals on the various programs and the panels have some of each. I think this flies in the face of your charge.

Alot of the “liberals” on fox news aren’t even liberal, take Hannity and Colmes as an example, and when real liberals do come on Fox news, they usually just get yelled at.

I hope you are not saying Colmes is a conservative. He is a very articulate liberal who also has a radio talk show. What about Juan Williams, and Jane Hall and Geraldo Rivera and Greta Van Susteran, and Mort Condracke, and Bob Beckel and the several liberal Dem strategists? Don’t confuse news programs with opinion programs. Somebody must be listening to Fox. They are the top cable news channel several times over. It can’t all be bad. And as far as yelling is concerned, I think there is plenty to go around.

Oh, and welcome to the forum. I hope you enjoy it. There is much to learn here.

It can’t all be bad.
Sure it can. I think Teen4Christ is right. My impression is that most liberals (I know many) will tell you that Fox news is slanted towards the right and the Bush administration.

Newsies claim to be neutral and nonpartisan.

Now … the American public votes roughly 50-50 Democrat - Republican. I think Clinton got 45% of the vote.

There have been polls published as to who the newsies actually vote for.

And the newsies usually come out as 90% Democrat, 10% Republican.

So, there would appear to be some variance between what they say and what they do.

So, it would appear there are indeed roughly ten times as many liberals as conservatives among the newsies.

If anything, the Brit media may be even more liberal than their U.S. counterparts.

What is your definition of propaganda?

Do you realize it is a word that originated with the Church, which refers to the propagation (dissemination) of the truth and/or faith.
So did you think there is a “right wing” truth? and a “left wing” truth.? Or is truth objective? or subjective?

Actutally if you are looking at the major media outlets for objective truth you will never find it. They are in the business to entertain and sell advertisement. Though in journalism schools it is claimed that a journalist is to be objective with their reporting, that is not taking either side and presenting both sides, that is highly dishonest. For a journalist, as well anyone else, will always present what they think is the truth in the better light. In Europe so called claims of being objective is a foreign idea, for in reality only Americans are able to lie well enough to make the public believe there is such a thing, that is, objective reporting. It is truly better to get most of your news and information from a source that lets you know where they base their understanding of truth. With American journalism you only have 60 - 90 seconds to tell a story, how is it possible to give you a complete story, let alone an objective unbias story?:dts:

Fox news is just like most media outlets, short on content. Anyone that only gets thier news off the tube no matter the source is selling themselves short. For it is mainly entertainment and not very good entertainment at that.

The use of the word propaganda is missused and not understood at all. Part of the current usage of the word is to obscure its orginal meaning inorder to discredit evangelization of the gospel by the Church, otherwise in newspeak the word propaganda and lies have become synonyms. Over use of the word should be considered a crime.

Function: noun
Pronunciation: "prä-p&-'gan-d&, "prO-
Etymology: New Latin, from *Congregatio de propaganda fide *Congregation for propagating the faith, organization established by Pope Gregory XV died 1623
1 capitalized : a congregation of the Roman curia having jurisdiction over missionary territories and related institutions
2 : the spreading of ideas, information, or rumor for the purpose of helping or injuring an institution, a cause, or a person
3 : ideas, facts, or allegations spread deliberately to further one’s cause or to damage an opposing cause ; also : a public action having such an effect

It doesn’t suprise me that BBC is full of liberal journalist, it is the BBC. Owned by the British government which appears, to me anyways, to be very liberal and somewhat socialist, that’s not news.🤷

I’ve never had much time for the BBC as an organization but the ownership lies in a trust bbc.co.uk/bbctrust/
not in the British Government - British Governments of all colors are semi-permanently annoyed with its behavior.

Meanwhile, a fair proportion of British Conservative voters would probably be regarded as ‘liberal and somewhat socialist’ by American Conservatives - the center of political gravity is different in the two countries, as are the political agendas - the chances of being elected by stressing one’s religiosity increase in the US and decrease in the UK, for example.

There must be a lot of liberals watching FNC then, otherwise, where would the viewership come from? And I have heard FNC give the president a hard time on a number of issues–the opinion shows, not the news. I don’t think you can FAIRLY call the news programs liberal or conservative. They don’t usually refuse to report on something that makes the conservatives look bad.

The well acknowledged fact that Fox News is right wing propaganda?
Propaganda. Please. The Liberal media has a monopoly on spreading propaganda. On TV and the papers. Do your research. Fox news verses, lets see, NBC, CNN, MSNBC and the list goes on and on. Not to mention, the papers.

Lets check CNN, the last 2 weeks all I saw was Anderson Cooper and the Planet in Peril. He was covering that while the Fox covering the fires in CALI. You tell me which is propaganda.

The well acknowledged fact that Fox News is right wing propaganda?
The only thing that is well acknowledged is that this is your opinion. Until you provide evidence, it will not be fact.

Understand that Hannity & Colmes, and OReilly are OPINION shows. Thats like me claiming that Keith Olberman gives the news or Bill Maher on HBO.

Why is it that when someone criticizes Fox news, the response is that other networks are bad (they are). They are all bad. Television news is a poor and often inaccurate source of information.
They all cater to the lowest common denominator.
Fox News may be the worst.
If you haven’t rented the documentary “Outfoxed,” it is worth watching.
When I watched it, I filled me with a great sense of sadness. Sometimes the truth is sad.
Some points made in the documentary:
* Bill O’Reilly claimed to only have told one person in six years to shut up (documentary shows six clips of him telling guests to shut up).
* Use of alert graphics and serious music originally designed for the most serious updates being used for silly reports like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
* Reporters and anchors getting scripts that guide them in how to slant news in a conservative manner.
* Masquerading blatantly political opinions as news by prefacing with the term ’some people say’ (about 20 clips were shown).
* Terms that FOX News reporters are instructed to use which slant towards conservative ideology.
* An expert that questioned the American military’s ability to fight two prolonged wars and was not used for the remainder of his eight-week contract.
* That FOX News tries to muddy arguments against conservatives to dilute and confuse an issue they are losing.

I might also to add to that, the fact that during the 2004 election period, they openly promoted Bush (even going so far as saying things like 74 days till Bush is reelected), and put down Kerry any chance they could. The flip flop incident comes to mind there. Also, when Bush was elected in 2000, who was the first to report the news? Well it was none other then Fox News, and not seconds after that other stations followed suit. Coincidence?

Fox News- Fair and Balanced? Ha, don’t make me laugh. They’re there to push an agenda, just like the mainstream media as a whole does.

Oh and BTW if you want to see the documentary in question, go here:

Fox News may be the worst. You are certainly entitled to your opinion. But from what you have said, I think you have gotten your information for a source other than watching for yourself.
If you haven’t rented the documentary “Outfoxed,” it is worth watching.
When I watched it, I filled me with a great sense of sadness. Sometimes the truth is sad. The source of this “documentary” is…?
Some points made in the documentary:
Code:
* Bill O’Reilly claimed to only have told one person in six years to shut up (documentary shows six clips of him telling guests to shut up).
This is not a news program. This is an OPINION program and since he is the editor, he can do whatever outrageous thing he wants. After all, he is a cash cow for the network.
Code:
* Use of alert graphics and serious music originally designed for the most serious updates being used for silly reports like Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
I agree with you on this. I would like it better if all the cable news outlets would stop running crawlers.
Code:
* Reporters and anchors getting scripts that guide them in how to slant news in a conservative manner. And your evidence is what? The aforementioned "documentary"?

* Masquerading blatantly political opinions as news by prefacing with the term ’some people say’ (about 20 clips were shown). If you are going to give both sides of a story, how better could you do so than to listen to a statement and then say "and some say"? Again, this sounds more like an opinion show rather than the delivery of hard news.

* Terms that FOX News reporters are instructed to use which slant towards conservative ideology.
And your proof of this?
Code:
* An expert that questioned the American military’s ability to fight two prolonged wars and was not used for the remainder of his eight-week contract. And who would that be?

* That FOX News tries to muddy arguments against conservatives to dilute and confuse an issue they are losing.
Does not sound to me like you have watched at all. If you have, you would know that the OPINION programs have reps from both sides of the aisle. And on the news programs that then have panels, they are pretty equally divided between liberals and conservatives.
