There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

So if no one has absolute assurance of salvation, and I agree with that, I still don’t fully understand the difference between Lutheran assurance and Calvinist assurance? I really have to think about this. 😃

God Bless,
Michael
Just that certain aspects of Calvinist teaching can undermine assurance and lead to a loss of faith.

Please don’t take a single verse or two and make it an essential doctrine. Please consider all of Scripture to understand essential truths in regards to salvation. Read the account of the Apostle Paul again.
That is some statement from a Protestant. Please take the entire New Testement into account.

I do not do this, but here we go

Baptism as more than a sign
Acts 22:16: " And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord."
1 Corinthians 12:13: “For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.”
Acts 2:38: “Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.”
1 Peter 3:21: " The like figure whereunto even baptism doth also now save us (not the putting away of the filth of the flesh, but the answer of a good conscience toward God,) by the resurrection of Jesus Christ:"
Titus 3:5: “Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost.”

These are from a non-Catholic website. They are KJV. Baptism has a redemptive quality.

I would like to add “Whoever believes and is baptized will be saved.” Mark chapter 16.

Canst thou shew us again how profitable it 'tis to slay the raging hordes of enthusiastic pseudo-gnostics? haha

so you would categorize it as an unessential doctrine?
All Christians should obey the command to be baptized. However, if water baptism is the cause of your regeneration, I believe that changes the gospel of God’s grace. So, I guess our view of baptism can be an essential position. How many people do you know who hold on to their baptism as evidence of their salvation apart from a changed life?

Again, more protestant zero sum thinking. Why cannot baptism be a conduit of grace if God so chooses?

Like Paul, I am being all things to all people. In Greece, I think like a Greek.

Psuedo-gnostics. that is funny.😃

The early Church certainly did that and they unanimouly upheld baptismal regeneraton. This was unchallenged until John Calvin. I find it strange that your undertsanding of this essential truth was not only absent, but completely contradicted for over 1,500 years.

God bless,
Michael

Oh… I am one of those Protestants like TriuneUnity who see the sacraments of water baptism and communion to be a means of grace (conduit of grace). However, there is a difference between justifying grace and sanctifying grace.

Another resounding “AME!!!”

But I am quite sure that your sacramentology is different from that of TriuneUnity and that you have a different understanding of baptism.

LOL…well you know Martin Luther wanted to retain as much of Roman Catholicism as possible in light of his understanding of Scripture. And John Calvin wanted to reject as much of Roman Catholicism as possible in light of his understanding of Scripture. TriuneUnity has quite the dilema of justification by faith alone along with baptismal regeneration. 🙂

Baptismal regeneration is really a moot point for the Roman Catholic since justification is so blended with sanctification that you guys don’t know if you will be saved until you die (I think). Well, there’s always purgatory, but balance that with mortal sin on your death bed. 🤷

Why would two men come to different conclusions if they read the same scriptures and those scriptures contained all that is needed?

But at least he is honest enough to admitt the teachings of scripture and the ECFs concerning baptism.

Because we all know in part according to the Apostle Paul. God is infinite and I just laugh at the claim of papal infallibilty and Rome being “The One True Church”. I don’t mean to be disrespectful, because there is a remnant inside the walls of Rome whom Christ died for.

🤷 And you have absolute assurance that you’re one of the elect. And I don’t think TriuneUnity would agree with your analysis of Martin Luther or faith alone and baptismal regeneration.

But God is not the God of confusion. He is not Allah. Baptism cannot grant grace or spiritual gifts to some Christians and not to others based on denomination. Either there is double predestination or there is not. Either there is the real presence (no matter what term or description you use) or there is not. THere is no way that if Scriptures contained all that you need to have the correct understanding of God that this could happen

Funny, I was laughing about how protestantism, which is clearly a man made religion, can make fun of Catholicism, which goes all the back to Christ and his Apotles. It is clear that you don’t understand history and don’t really care to. Perhaps it is because if you did, you know you would have to become a Catholic. As the famoust Anglican convert to Catholicism once said, “To be deep in history is to cease to be a Protestant.” - Cardinal Newman.

The bottom line. Your faith is based on a religious institution built upon the rock of a man and his apparent successors. My Faith is based on the promises of God revealed in His Holy Scriptures. And we both know it is impossible for God to lie. I will take the Word of God over the teachings of men any day of the week.
