Statues of Columbus are coming down all over - including in Hartford Connecticut, the state that hosts the headquarters of the K of C. The “social justice crusaders” seem to have successfully branded Columbus as a genocidal racist during this time of high emotions and “wokeness.” Concerned that all the good done by the Knights will be buried under an avalanche of social media and political pressure, with implications for the Knights, the Church, and even the cause of Fr. McGivney.

Um, no. How about we don’t.
I agree.

When they ended the secrecy I bit my tongue, when they changed the color corps outfits I didn’t care, if they change the name I’ll be a bit bothered but largely indifferent. If they ever make it open to women I’m leaving.

Never cared for that name. Why Columbus? How about soldiers for Christ?

A family member is completing her doctorate on racism, how timely, and from what I see on facebook postings, white Christians going to foreign lands are targeted as culture destroyers. (Stay the heck out of our country. If you want to help, send money but do not come here) She will have access to speak at any university in the world to proclaim this message. She will be considered the ‘expert’ on the subject and welcomed with all expenses paid to be a key note speaker. She had good Catholic parents and now is leading the charge against Christianity.

Our Lady at Fatima in 1917 asked for prayers and sacrifices for the conversion of sinners and peace in this world. Looks like we came up short.

I’m convinced some level of anti-white sentiment is actually anti-Christianity in essence.

As a Sir Knight, I’m not too crazy about changing our name because some radicals decide to go statue smashing.

It seems that we are being told that we should only have statues of perfect people. The only one I have ever heard of was nailed to a cross for His efforts. Maybe we should push for crucifixes to be installed where they tear down the statues of imperfect people!

The cause for sainthood is in God’s hands.
The Knights could change our name, wouldn’t really bother me. The name change is not the end point…it won’t stop there.
The days are coming when The Church will be persecuted badly in the name of absolute tolerance. I predict within 20 years The Church will be forced to tolerate anything and everything, or property will be confiscated and evangelization supressed. The guillotine is being sharpened right now.

Keep in mind: the Church will not recognize many of the errant modern philosophies, and in a culture of absolute tolerance that is absolutely intolerable.
The Supreme Court decision the other day is another step towards dismantling the Church’s position in the world. Won’t be long and a gay or transgender Catholic School teacher will sue for being terminated, and the Church will lose.

This is very concerning. I’m not Catholic but Lutheran but the Knights of Columbus is a good organization.

Okay, I’m sorry my question is so ignorant, but why are they called Knights of Columbus? What does he have to do with it? I mean no offense!

Columbus is seen as an evangelist, bringing Christianity to a pagan world.
I am a 40 year member, and the name may have worn out it’s welcome in the world.
But it’s really is a minor point when you consider that it just won’t stop there.

The name is offensive to many Hispanics who have endured the bad aspects of colonialism. I would rather change the name if it will bring others on board as Catholic brothers.

Also an Ohioan.
