It’s too bad, but now that I hear it I’m not surprised.

KoC do good work in the community and I’m pretty sure is one of the largest donation contributors to my wife’s parish.

The only negative thing I’ve ever said about them is they really…really need someone to teach them how to march properly… 😉

As our first parents said concerning the forbidden fruit, “We ate it and liked it!”

The potato originated in South America, so you can’t even have that.

Now they do. Since Columbus. Like the Italians now have tomatoes.

It seems that we are being told that we should only have statues of perfect people. The only one I have ever heard of was nailed to a cross for His efforts. Maybe we should push for crucifixes to be installed where they tear down the statues of imperfect people!
From what I’ve heard they’re tearing down crucifixes too. Several have been vandalized in Spain over the last few days.

The South Americans appropriated it too.

The Portugese brought coffee to South America. They got it from the Turks who in turn got it from the Arabians.

Legend has it that coffee became popular in Europe after the siege of Vienna when the retreating Turkish army left behind large quantities of coffee beans.

I’ve been seeing the phrase “Knights of Charity” in the Columbia magazine.
I bet if they change their name it would be to that, or maybe “Knights of Christ”.

As a Sir Knight, I’m not too crazy about changing our name because some radicals decide to go statue smashing.
What if you’re changing it because Columbus was genuinely not a great guy and not someone we want associated with a Catholic organization?

Statute smashing may be silly but that doesn’t mean the people reevaluating Columbus don’t have a point. It’s not like we lack for Catholics associated with early American history we could honor instead.

Okay, so then we’ll tell them they’re being stupid and ignore them. We can evaluate these claims individually. It’s not like if we recognize the issues with Columbus we’re obligated to take all future complaints seriously if they’re without merit.

We’re not changing our name. Columbus is the man that Father McGivney chose to represent us as Catholic Americans, and it’s not our place to change it. Christopher is a testament to the fact that Catholics have played a major role in our nation’s founding and maintenance, that we have a place in American society that can’t be held from us. Many Catholic Americans and even saints can meet this criteria, but they were not chosen by Father McGivney to be our namesake.

I had no idea the Knights of Columbus were about Christopher Columbus. Are they really? Seems random. Name change would be fitting. Knights of Mary or Knights of the Church.

Knights of Charity”
I was just wondering what a good alternative might be. That seems a very good name if a change was needed.

I say that as a female with no connections to the organization, only fond memories of them. I’m also not suggesting the name should or shouldn’t be changed.

He isn’t Saint Christopher Columbus. Society seems unable to recognize the good anyone does, but never forgets the bad. He is recognized for bringing Christianity to the New World, but that isn’t good enough for some…
