The name is offensive to many Hispanics who have endured the bad aspects of colonialism.
What about the 50 million Hispanics who live in a country named for Christopher Columbus? Are they clamoring to be called something else, instead of the offensive colombianos ?

It might up potential membership if you changed your name. If I were a black catholic I’d think twice About membership especially if the organization took a hard stance against the change.
That’s odd. We have members of every ethnicity in my council. No one’s ever mentioned being offended.

I’m with this tbh. I’m not really concerned with a name, I’m there for the organization and charity. That said it seems a little random and impulsive tbh.
This is all “random and impulsive”, fueled by tragic recent events, though I suspect that some of these efforts have been in someone’s playbook, ready to break out when “things hit the fan”. Various interest and identity groups, some with more obviously legitimate concerns than others, are on a “feeding frenzy” to change every name, monument, and honor that they can.

I’ve got to be utterly honest and say that I’ve never understood why military bases were named after Confederate figures. The only way this could be remotely defensible, is if it could be said that an innocent South, minding her own business, were attacked and brutalized by an aggressive Union, and that these generals defended her valiantly. That is far from a standard narrative.

Not to go off thread here but would it be uncharitable to rename ourselves Knights Templar of the Modern Era. Maybe throw a few symbols in there. The conspiracy theorists would be occupied for decades.

Alright, I admit that I’d enjoy the old school armor and shotgun.

What were Columbus’ particular crimes that a person seeing what the organization named for him does would not join for that reason?

I’m convinced some level of anti-white sentiment is actually anti-Christianity in essence.
Satan is quite cunning and clever—masking himself in different clothings. It has always been Christ that they have gone after. The same is true from within the Church. Let’s continue to pray for God’s will be done…

We are living in dangerous time…

People need to get a life and stop this drivel.

They donate and do much for the church. Fr Mcgivney named this group after St. Columbiere.

Ah Richard Dean Anderson. Next to Keanu Reeves, possibly the finest actor there ever was…

Well it is about principle. Removing the name would come about from lies, political correct Marxist lies. Like others have said, it is only the beginning. Jesus said that by following Him we will be persecuted and hated. So let us stick to our principles and morals and face the storm head on boldly with faith in Jesus Christ. Vivat Jesus!

Yeah, I cannot find a connection to St. Columbiere…

@Katie777 if you could provide a source for this, I’d appreciate it.
