I’m here too. Just because the guy next door is really upset doesn’t mean he doesn’t have a point potentially. I think we can look at it objectively as an organization.

I’m personally unaware of the controversy surrounding Columbus. But I’m no historian.

To me it seems a bit opportunistic, but that said we can still make an informed objective decision either way.

. So let us stick to our principles and morals and face the storm head on boldly with faith in Jesus Christ. Vivat Jesus!
This should be obvious, but you realize who object to the name may also have faith in Jesus Christ? In fact, they may be motivated by that very faith to seek to change the name?

We do too. However to be fair to both angles, would we necessarily hear about it? I’ve had legitimate complaints in life before, and it’s most frequently written off as “whining” if one does speak up, or a “lack of assertiveness” if one doesn’t… So for at least one person above it’s a factor at least. My personal .02 is we could listen attentively for the case. May or may not agree but hearing doesn’t hurt.

genocidal racis
Nothing could be further from the truth, he had a very high opinion of the Indians, read his diaries, they’re available for free online.
Concerned that all the good done by the Knights will be buried under an avalanche of social media and political pressure,
You aren’t the only one.
with implications for the Knights, the Church, and even the cause of Fr. McGivney.
We’ll just say it’s a different Columbus.

If he was a saint and they wanted to go after him (such as St Junipero Serra, who is and was attacked because of his evangelization of native peoples) I can understand it being a hill that we need to die on.

For Columbus I guess I just don’t see it as super important.

I don’t know, nor do I particularly care. All I know is it now has a negative connotation. You can rail against how it shouldn’t, or you could just change the name and come off pretty relevant.

I’m convinced some level of anti-white sentiment is actually anti-Christianity in essence.
I see what you mean here but this always strikes me as odd. There are huge numbers of Christians that aren’t white Europeans. Christianity didn’t even originate in Europe, it started in the Middle East.

How can we feed their bodies, yet withhold the Bread of Life from their souls? How can we build wells, yet withhold the Water of Life from their souls? Whatever is good about their cultures, we do not seek to change, but we cannot tend to their bodily needs while neglecting liberating them from slavery to false gods.

Those who would accuse the Knights of Columbus of white supremacy should be aware that the Knights of Columbus has always been an enemy of the Ku Klux Klan. When Klansman threatened to burn down Catholic churches with the faithful inside them, it was the Knights of Columbus who stood as armed guards to defend the parishes. During the Cristero War, the Knights of Columbus nearly went to war against the Ku Klux Klan, as the KKK threatened to bring the Mexican government’s reign of terror to the US.

Are we going full-on Mandarion?! If so, count me in!(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

Correct. But a lot of this politically correct nonsense originates in cultures that are European.

Ask yourself, why do you seek the Cup of Christ?

This whole purging thing is just wild, rampant, and insane. In fact, this whole past month has been insane and crazy.
